- Birth nameIoana Athanasiu
- Genica Athanasiou was born on January 3, 1897 in Bucharest, Romania. She was an actress, known for Colomba (1933), Don Quichotte (1933) and The Count of Monte Cristo (1954). She died on July 13, 1966 in Lagny-sur-Marne, Seine-et-Marne, France.
- Athanasiou was romantically linked to actor and drama theorist Antonin Artaud ("Theatre of Cruelty"). Extensive correspondence exists between the two (roughly the period 1923 to 1940), as evidenced by multiple sources (example: "Antonin Artaud Selected Writings" Library of Congress Catalog Number: 79-143303). Artaud seems to have been the aggressor, Athanasiou deftly keeping his passions at bay.
- Artaud stars in the Carl Theodor Dreyer film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). Athanasiou appears in the Marco de Gastyne film La merveilleuse vie de Jeanne d'Arc (1929).
- Athanasiou appears in the Germain Dulac film _Coquille et le Clergyman, La (1927)_ with writing credit going to Artaud.
