The 11th annual Action Icon Awards luncheon, celebrating pioneering stuntwomen and action-oriented female trailblazers, will be held Oct. 16 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The event benefits Diamond in the Raw, a non-profit organization devoted to empowering and transforming the lives of foster care and at-risk teenage girls.
Hosted by broadcast journalist Roqui Theus and comic Jesus Sepulveda, the awards show is presented by La Faye Baker, veteran stunt performer, executive producer and Diamond in the Raw founder, in conjunction with executive producer Wendy Wheaton of Tinseltown Productions.
“The ceremony honors entertainment professionals, women who dare to be different, and the unsung heroines behind the scenes – stuntwomen,” Baker said. “The ceremony will put action-oriented women at the forefront, creating life-changing opportunities for women, especially those of color.”

SAG-AFTRA leaders are being pressed to respond to stunt performers allegations of racism, nepotism, intimidation and slander.
The issue arose due to an open letter sent Wednesday on behalf of stunt performers who are Bipoc, women, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. Signees asserted that their talents are overlooked, denied and discredited, professional opportunities foreclosed and careers foreshortened.
“We have watched from the outside as white stunt performers are painted down, suited/helmeted or men wigged in a grotesque simulation of those of us denied employment,” they said. “Modern-day blackface is Hollywood’s shameful secret. We’ve been taunted, ostracized, harassed and threatened simply for showing up or speaking up. We have been shut down, shut up and shut out for far too long.
In response, the performers union said, “SAG-AFTRA stands in solidarity with performers whose opportunities to work in stunt roles have been denied or limited because of bias against women,...

Need to feel festive today? Think on these anniversaries or birthdays today in showbiz history and celebrate accordingly.
1914 Director Morton DaCosta was born in Philly. Though most of his career was on the stage he did direct three features: Auntie Mame, The Music Man, and Island of Love, the first two of which were Best Picture nominees!
1933 The game "Monopoly" was invented -remember that time when it seemed like every "brand" was going to become a movie and Ridley Scott was going to make this one?

Directed by Chris Columbus, Pixels will definitely take many of us back to an era that once seemed new and exciting, but now appears as old as the Civil War.
Starting with a kid zooming through his neighborhood on bike while Cheap Trick blazes on the soundtrack, I was immediately hooked: The year is 1982. Actually, I hoped that most of the film would take place during this time, an era when many of us were coming of age, but…how silly of me! It’s 2015, and as much as I find recent times to be banal and abrasive, this is the age that modern kids live in. The makers of the movie are obviously hoping for many youthful viewers ‘accompanied by their parental units, of course. I also believe this film should and will make a hefty sum at the box office, as long as kids...

We’ve been on hiatus. I think that means I’ve been lazy, but to you it probably only felt like moments. Seconds even. Maybe you’ve been chomping at the bit awaiting the arrival of the latest installment of 1980x. Maybe you forgot about me.. well I didn’t forget about you dear readers. I got soooo busy reviewing goddamn movies that I forgot about what it is that I love about writing about ideas. Concepts. I forgot that analysis is anal with a few letters scrawled at the end to make it look fancy. Not that there’s anything wrong with anal… which brings us to tonight’s conversation on It Came From 1980x. Let’s talk about the psycho-sexual, munging and cunnilinguini of Brian Yuzna’s 1989 satire horror gross out, Society.

Andy Cohen can add "author" to his extensive resume (which includes being an exec at Bravo and host of "Watch What Happens Live") now that he's published his first book, "Most Talkative."
The memoir chronicles Cohen's life and career path -- from the early days as a pop culture-obsessed gay kid in the Midwest, to an intern at CBS, to the mind behind some of reality TV's most ubiquitous hits. It's candid, and packed with sincere admissions and even downright brutal (sometimes gory) details.
Zap2it sat down with Cohen on Monday (May 14) and he confirmed that he took full liberty to poke fun at himself (and his haircuts), saying "this book is as much about my failures as it is about my success."
"Most Talkative" is quite rich in detail about the "Real Housewives" empire, and gives behind-the-scenes juice and backstory to some of the most widely publicized and...

It's double elimination week for "The X Factor." Happy Thanksgiving! Do you think we should just assume it's Astro and Lakoda Rayne going home? Or should we actually listen to them sing?
Guess we should let them sing. So here we go. The theme is giving thanks and whatnot, so they are dedicating their songs to someone they want to thank. Get those tissues handy (or rotten tomatoes, whatever floats your boat).
I want to be snarky, but I'm already crying at Rachel's video package. Geez.
1. Rachel Crow, "I Believe," Yolanda Adams
I'm not sure what is happening with her outfit, but she sounds awesome. Is that a bed sheet tied around her waist over top of her maitre d' uniform? No clue. This song is perfect for her. It stays in her big take-us-to-church lane and doesn't revert back to the teenybopper crap that plagued her for the first two live weeks.

From the Urban Dictionary:
Bou-ghetto -
A 2 part definition word. Bougie(n): An upper middle-class black person that possess snobby, rich-folk traits and mannerisms. Ghetto(n): Any black person or community fixated in severe urban areas, whether it be in the city or the country. One of the many epitomes of black cultures.
This definition, which was given by Kandi, was exactly what we saw last night on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. While some people might say “boughetto” behavior is an everyday occurrence with the Atl Housewives, last night’s spectacle of Phaedra’s baby shower really brought the term to light. The Twitter feeds were abuzz with wonder as viewers tried to decipher what the hell it was they were seeing. The Facebook timeline was a hotbed for jokes, claims of disbelief, and other shocking responses to what some people called “a hot mess” on display.

Did you know that Captain Jack is terrified of Autons? This according to an excerpt from Chicks Dig Time Lords, a collection of essays about Doctor Who, which includes a piece from John Barrowman’s sister Carole. But the charming way that she describes going from trying to choke her baby brother with potato chips to their fun, loving relationship is what makes the read worth it.
As long as we’re in the Whoverse, local hero Jane Espenson talks about getting to write for the upcoming Torchwood series. She’s in for three episodes, says the entire series is being written before an actor says his first line, and that things are changing rapidly including the name of an announced character.

A girl can dream. Mike Rowe is the delicious host of Discovery's "Dirty Jobs." In an age of bizarro 'Claymates,' cage-fighter Alex Reid wearing women's clothes and Adam Lambert bedazzled in more makeup than Tammy Faye Baker ever could, along comes an all-American man, hairy chested with natural ease, with a willingness to get down and dirty. Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" is a fun reality series where Rowe becomes a vocational guinea pig for all things dirty, grimy and messy. The show airs on Discovery Channel Tuesdays at 9Pm Et/Pt. Mike Rowe travels the country to showcase the downright dirty jobs that most people would go out of their way to avoid. From toilet crushers to maple syrup...
