Adverts and TV form an integral part in Paul Verhoeven's classic sci-fi films, RoboCop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers...
"I looked at American society in a kind of dazed way when I was doing RoboCop," director Paul Verhoeven told us earlier this year. Back in the mid-80s, when he was better known for his Dutch films like Soldier Of Orange and The Fourth Man, Verhoeven was still getting used to the pace and tone of American culture - and his outsider status arguably fed into the wry, spikily satirical edge in all three sci-fi films he made while in Hollywood.

It's been a busy casting week for Len Wiseman's remake of "Total Recall". EW reports that John Cho is the latest member to join the cast of the Columbia Pictures film. A remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven adaptation of the short Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," the original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid (to be played by Colin Farrell in this version), a man who, after buying implanted memories of a vacation, begins to remember experiences tied to an elaborate conspiracy. The new version is said to leave out the interplanetary aspect of the plot and will not, as the original did, feature the planet Mars. Cho will play McClane, a salesman for the virtual vacation company. In the original, the part was played by Ray Baker. The "Star...

The Total Recall remake has assembled an impressive cast - Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Ethan Hawke and Bill Nighy - even as the film itself sounds less than impressive. But yet another actor we like and respect has joined the ever-expanding cast in a familiar role. John Cho has signed on to Recall as McClane, the sales agent who convinces Douglas Quaid to sign up for the Rekall program. Ray Baker played the role in the original film, though it's mostly a...

With Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall gearing up to start production early next month, casting news has been arriving in bunches. Yesterday alone it was confirmed that Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale have joined the film as the two principal female characters while Bill Nighy will be playing Quatto, the resistance leader. But just like in the Paul Verhoven film, however, somebody has to mess with Douglas Quaid's (Colin Farrell) brain and convince him that he's a spy, right? Enter today's news. According to EW, John Cho has officially joined the cast of Total Recall. Taking over the part played by Ray Baker in the 1990 film, the actor will play McClane, a "smooth-talking rep" who works for the company that implants memories (the article doesn't mention if the company is still called Rekall). No longer set on Mars, the new film will be set in the future where...
