A Dangerous Method
Although I'm not a fan of biopic, I'm a little bit fascinated by how Sigmund Freud developed his own brand of psychology. Besides, any film directed by David Cronenberg, one of Canada's finest, is an event. Add to this the wonderful cast made of Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley. Date of release: December 23.
Monsieur Lazhar
This film won't be a box-office success in Quebec because it features a foreign actor (French comedian Fellag) and a character who's supposed to be an immigrant. Yes, many Quebeckers are that close-minded. However, once in a while, it's a blessing to see that some Quebecker directors - in this case Philippe Falardeau - try to talk about immigration in films. Date of release: October 28.
Roméo Onze
Well, we've been hearing about this film during the summer and this might be the best film ever made by a Quebecker from ethnic minorities.

Les Films Christal, a branch of the Canadian film distributor Entertainment One, has released the trailer of Jean-Philippe Pearson's Le bonheur des autres. The film will come out in Quebec's theatres on October 7.
Twenty years before the events in the film's story, Jean-Pierre (Michel Barrette) left his wife, Louise (Louise Portal). At that moment, Marion and Sylvie, Jean-Pierre's two children, were respectively 10 and 8 years old. Moreover, since then, Louise has been raising her children all by herself. Eventually, Jean-Pierre will come back to his family and he believes that his past mistakes were forgotten.
During Sylvain's (Marc-André Grondin) 29th birthday, Jean-Pierre announces to his family that he's dating Evelynne (Julie LeBreton), a beautiful woman of 30 years old. Obviously, tensions between Jean-Pierre and his family get to the surface. While Louise sees this as an injustice, Sylvain complains about the absence of his father. As for Marion (Ève Duranceau), she has...

Canadian comedian André Sauvé will adapt into a film a famous monologue he did in a sketch: the grocery store (l'épicerie). The film will fittingly be called L'épicerie.
This will be the second film in which André Sauvé plays after Filière 13. Instead of being in a supporting role like in Filière 13, Sauvé will be the lead actor.
Christal Film Productions, a production company, announced yesterday that André Sauvé will write the film's script along with Claude Lalonde (Filière 13). For the moment, no director is attached to the film.
The film is about a man who goes to the grocery store. Once there, he starts to panick because of what's offered to him on the shelves.
In the next months, the producers of the film will seek subsidies from Telefilm Canada and the Sodec, respectively a federal and a Quebecker cinematographic funding agency. The producers expect L'épicerie's budget to be at $6 M.

The show introduces us to Det. Louis Cadieux (David Boutin), a young cop who is an expert in infiltration. On one day, his girlfriend (Marianne Farley) is murdered. While he's leading an investigation of his own, Louis discovers that his girlfriend used to be a deluxe escort. In order to find the killer, he'll infiltrate the milieu of deluxe prostitution. Besides, to make things worse, Louis's partner, Richard Beauvais (Michel Barrette), believes that a serial killer is at large after the discovery of a dead male escort (Charles Bender) in an expensive apartment of Montreal. Many Quebeckers probably remember that screenwriter Fabienne Larouche and sport columnist Réjean Tremblay used to form a couple. Together, they penned Scoop a TV series that ran for five seasons on Radio-Canada. Now, this TV network had announced that the first season, which was broadcasted in 1992, will come out on DVD on February 29, 2010.
The show takes place in the world of journalism and often shows it under an unfavourable day. Things are not going well for The Express, a newspaper in Montreal. Two young reporters try to make a name for themselves by working with The Express and by seeking the latest scoop on any given thing tat matters. Stéphanie Rousseau (Macha Grenon) doesn't get along with her dad (Claude Léveillée), who is the newspaper's owner. As for Michel Gagné (Roy Dupuis), he's sick of being stuck in the general news section.
Moreover, the show also stars Rémy Girard,...
