In a ruling with implications for the array of comic-book conventions drafting off the notoriety of the original Comic-Con in San Diego, a federal judge has dealt a Salt Lake City version a resounding defeat.
Judge Anthony Battaglia in the U.S. District Court of Southern California issued an injunction against the Utah convention and also ordered defendants Bryan Brandenburg and Daniel Farr to pay $4 million in legal fees. Among the 11 teams racing around the world are Stealing Angels country music stars Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle. Cutbirth is a descendant of Daniel Boone while Kuhle is John Wayne's granddaughter. Professional hockey players Bates and Anthony Battaglia are also embarking on the 30,000 mile race around the globe. YouTube stars Meghan Camarena and Joey Graceffa are also teaming for "The Amazing Race."
The new season introduces a new twist in the $1 million competition. The first team to check in at the first pit stop will earn two "Express Passes" -- one to keep for themselves and one they must give to another team by the end of the fourth leg of the race.
"The Amazing Race" 22 premieres on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. Est on CBS.

The Amazing Race will feature roller derby moms, professional hockey players and country singers in its cast when it returns for a 22nd season, CBS announced today. Eleven duos will take part in the brand new race, which will see teams travel over 30,000 miles over five continents and through nine countries. Stealing Angels band members Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle, John Wayne's granddaughter, will be pitted against hockey players and brothers Bates Battaglia and Anthony Battaglia. Also battling it out for the $$1m grand prize are a pair of firefighters, YouTube hosts, a father and son who have both battled cancer, and twin brothers who are both Ob/GYNs. The teams will face challenges including a 10,000 feet skydive in Bora Bora, a climb at Switzerland's Eiger Mountain, and a scorpion hunt in Botswana.
