Peter Strickland talks about the mechanics of sex in his new film, The Duke of Burgundy as well as his influences: Bruce Labruce’s Skin Flick. "Certainly," says Strickland, "the first person who introduced me to the whole film world in New York was Mm Serra at the Film-maker’s Co-op. The films she made with Maria Beatty, A Lot of Fun for the Evil One, with John Zorn’s sound effects and music, were totally in this world. Have a couple hot nights on the town when the Cinekink Film Festival shakes its groove thing on March 1-6 in NYC. With the exception of the opening and closing night galas, the fest will turn the venerable Anthology Film Archives into a red light district with sexy feature films, documentaries, shorts and more.
The feature films screening tell wicked tales of telepathic peeping toms (Sexual Radar), swingers (Open Invitation) and naive hedonists (Caged). Meanwhile, the documentaries chronicle the history of gay leather (Kink Crusaders) and porn addiction (Run, Run, It’s Him). And there’s all kinds of naughty offerings hidden in the short film collections.
While Cinekink is traditionally all about sex, the main film Bad Lit wants to recommend is all about not getting in: Robert G. Putka‘s hilarious and discomforting Hooka Face and the Virgin Boy. The fest also includes new short films by Bad...

Maria Beatty’s Boy in a Bathtub (top); Enrique Buchichio’s Leo’s Room (middle); João Gabriel Vasconcellos, Rafael Cardoso in Aluisio Abranches‘ From Beginning to End (bottom) Maria Beatty will be honored with a screening of Boy in a Bathtub at the Torino Glbt Film Festival – Da Sodoma a Hollywood (Turin’s Glbt Film Festival – From Sodom to Hollywood) on Wednesday, April 21. Set in 1920s Paris, Boy in a Bathtub tells the story of a courtesan who seduces a very young man — only to turn him into an androgynous "love slave," with whom his/her mistress can do as she pleases. Also at Torino, the international premiere of Rosa von Praunheim’s New York Memories, in which the filmmaker, accompanied by his new partner, [...]...

CineKink San Francisco will take place from November 19-21 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Screening films include James Westby’s The Auteur, a farcical comedy about has-been Italian erotica filmmaker Arturo Domingo’s trip to Portland to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award; A. Benjamin’s Kinky (above, lower photo), a 2008 documentary that explores sexuality issues among black Americans; and a couple of dozen shorts, including "Best of CineKink" selections Belle de Nature (above, top photo) by Maria Beatty, Kink, Inc. by Casey Clark, and At the Porno Shop by Michael Rehfield. Of those, I’ve only seen The Auteur. Most of the humor eluded me, while the film promises more risque situations than it delivers. That said, [...]...

Bandaged, a new German horror/erotic thriller narrative film by S&M director Maria Beatty, will be having its North American premiere at the 2009 Outfest Film Festival on July 15th, 2009. Described as The English Patient meets Eyes Without A Face, it's an extremely disrturbing movie set in a mansion with lots of gothic elements and a visceral cocktail of sex and bodily terror...
A surgeon and his teenage daughter, Lucille, live in a mysterious mansion equipped with a full laboratory. A suicide attempt leaves Lucille's face burned and swathed in gauze, and a lady nurse tends to the nubile young woman. The attraction between the two women is palpable, developing into a forbidden affair. A period piece with nods to '60s European art house horror and a prime candidate for cult film status, Bandaged is a smoldering and stylish erotic thriller.

Director Maria Beatty last appeared in Filmmaker in 2002 when she interviewed Erin Cressida Wilson about her screenplay for Steve Shainberg's Secretary, and since then we've been hearing about her plans for a mainstream narrative feature. Now, reports Lauren Wissot in a "sneak peek" at The House Next Door, Beatty has finished Bandaged, which is executive produced by Abel Ferrara. From Wissot, an excerpt: Bandaged is S&M filmmaker Maria Beatty’s foray into the indie mainstream – if one could call a flick best described as Mädchen in Uniform meets The English Patient meets Eyes Without A Face “mainstream.” Fittingly, none other than Abel Ferrara is serving as executive producer, though it just as easily could have been David Cronenberg...
