Among her many roles were Elettra in Mozart's "Idomeneo", Isolde in Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde", and Marie in Berg's "Wozzeck".
Her breakout role came in 1977, when she appeared in the title role of Strauss' "Salome" at the Salzburg Festival.
She made her American debut in 1976, as Girogetta in Puccini's "Il Tabarro" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
She made her opera debut in 1971, as the Countess in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" in Freiburg.
