In the 1930's, leader of his own cabaret troupe in Berlin. In films from 1913, often seen as naive, bespectacled, whiny-voiced little men, saved from being victimised by guile and a quick-wit.
- A late honor was given to him in 1970 when the humorist Loriot drew an animation film to Wilhelm Bendow and Franz Otto Krügers sketch "Auf der Rennbahn". Everyone knows the remark "Ja, wo laufen sie denn".
