Batman was enjoying a renaissance as the 1970s dawned. Freed from its ties to the ABC series, editor Julius Schwartz worked with writers Frank Robins and Denny O’Neil on rejuvenating the Darknight Detective, returning him closer to his pulp-roots.
In short order, O’Neil would rise to become the premier Batman scribe of the era to be followed by a notable stretch as his editor from 1986 through the early 2000s. His impact is immeasurable. On the side, though, he aspired to be a prose writer as well and among his works from that period was a collaboration with cartoonist Jim Berry on the 1974 novel Kung Fu Master, Richard Dragon: Dragon’s Fists (1974) under the pseudonym “Jim Dennis.”
As the Martial Arts craze was beginning its descent, DC Comics optioned the novel and had O’Neil write and edit the adaptation as Richard Dragon, Kung-Fu Fighter. There, he introduced readers to Dragon,...

(Cbr) With the freshly launched second season of The CW's "Arrow" -- based on DC Comics' Green Arrow -- producers have been looking to up the stakes with more characters familiar to comic book readers. Last night, the show introduced a rogue who's more than a simple villain, played by a man who's done more than his share of comic book-inspired filmmaking. In the all-new episode "Identity," Michael Jai White becomes Ben "The Bronze Tiger" Turner. Created by Denny O'Neil, Jim Berry and Leo Duranona, the kung-fu trained mercenary is known in the comics as a bad guy who hews closer...

With all of the recent casting news, it's clear that "Arrow's" second season has already kicked into high gear—and the season premiere is still weeks away! In a new interview with TV Guide, executive producer Marc Guggenheim opened up about a new recurring threat to Arrow's Starling City: Michael Jai White's Bronze Tiger.
"He's basically the best of the best, so he has come to Starling City to see if the Hood can give him a challenge," said Guggenheim. The contest of champions is set to take place in the season's second episode, which is set to air on October 16th. But Bronze Tiger won't exactly be playing it solo when he debuts, Guggenheim explains. "To that end, he has aligned himself with China White [played by Kelly Hu] and the Chinese Triad."

Kudos to the showrunners and casting department on "Arrow" for securing Michael Jai White to play Ben Turner aka Bronze Tiger. You couldn't possibly ask for better casting. Revealed at Sdcc, White will guest star on season 2 of "Arrow" and will be a member of the Suicide Squad alongside Deadshot (Michael Rowe). (Click here to read the first installment which took a look at Summer Glau's Isabel Rochev.) Comic Book History Ben Turner debuted in the 1974 novel "Dragon's Fists" from Dennis O'Neil and Jim Berry which focused on Richard Dragon. Stylistically, think Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" which was released the year before the novel. Turner made his DC Comics debut in "Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Fighter #1" in 1975. Turner grew up in Central City (home of the Flash) before developing a focus on martial arts and crime. Striking out East, Turner eventually...

Bobby Fischer's Alleged Daughter -- Checkmate
Forget DNA -- The U.S. Chess Federation has an even better way to determine if Bobby Fischer is the daddy of a 9-year-old Filipino girl -- see how good she is in the checkmate department.
Jim Berry, president of the U.S. Chess Federation, tells TMZ chess is a skill that can be inherited -- and the chess community is abuzz with talk about the little girl's possible telltale talent.
Berry adds, "I would like to see her tested to see if she possesses the same abilities that Bobby did at a young age."
Berry says even though the girl was born in the Philippines, she can still end up playing for the U.S. team ... but she'll have to make a serious move (as in location) to make that happen.
