“The Buccaneers” might look like “Bridgerton” at first glance, but the two are very different, and the music and soundtrack heavily differentiate the shows, in addition to their plots.
Adapted from Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel, the Apple TV+ drama tells the story of five young American girls who clash with stuffy English society when they enter the marriage market in search of husbands. Nan St. George operates as the central character, and she doesn’t exactly have love or marriage on her radar, but of course she eventually finds herself in a love triangle situation between Guy Thwarte (Matthew broome) and Theo (Guy Remmers). Nan’s sister Jinny St. George more actively seeks out a husband, while their friend Conchitta Closson (Alisha Boe) gets married in the first episode. The Elmsworth sisters Lizzy (Tk) and (Josie Totah) also navigate the mix in their own ways.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Season 2, Episodes 1-8 of Hacks.] Hacks may be all about the jokes, but the HBO Max comedy wouldn’t be the same without its curated list of music to bring memorable scenes together. Whether it’s the use of Elton John‘s “The Bitch Is Back” to convey Deborah’s (Jean Smart) bold choice to sue Ava (Hannah Einbinder) for breaking her NDA or the bittersweet bite to Supertramp’s “Goodbye Stranger” in the season’s final moments, music supervisor Matt Biffa is responsible for sewing all of these moments together with the scripted footage. “I always start is to think about the characters really,” Biffa says of his process. “I just try and read and reread what scripts I have access to and get those characters in my head and try and work out who they are.” And there was more than enough for him to work with when it came to ...

Music supervisors are now solely eligible to win the Emmy in their category, as part of rules changes announced today by the Television Academy. Previously, showrunners who contributed musical ideas to their shows were eligible too, and have won three times.
The new rules clarified entry requirements in the category. Emmys can only be awarded to the “credited music supervisor… A Music Supervisor’s on-screen credit must reflect their primary function as a music supervisor.” Additionally, music supervisors no longer need to upload their cue sheets with their submissions.
In the past, some shows have added the showrunner’s name to the entry as well. This rule modification paves the way for music supervisors to receive that sole recognition. Many in the music for screens community have voiced displeasure in the past with the co-credit allowance.

“Agatha All Along” shot to No. 1 on iTunes’ soundtrack chart after it appeared in the series’ penultimate episode, explaining the role that devious witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) had played throughout the unraveling mystery of the town of Westview.
Anderson-Lopez, in accepting the award, said she and her husband hadn’t been in Los Angeles in 21 months and “every return to normalcy should come with a big party and a shiny statue.” She called the “WandaVision” track “a...

There’s something curious about the new Netflix series “The End of the F***ing World”: the kids want to be adults and adults want to be kids. Alyssa and James, two wayward teens looking for something to rebel against and to hit fast-forward on their adolescence, make for a fascinating run-and-gun team as they encounter the pitfalls of young adulthood and a lot more than they bargained for.
But aside from being an unapologetic example of onscreen teen angst, the show also has an incredible secret weapon in a truly smashing soundtrack, almost entirely populated by rock classics from decades past. By using these songs from a different time, “The End of the F***ing World” shows that the two main characters are not only lost in their own worlds, but looking for a place to belong that maybe isn’t even in their own millennium.
