She is survived by her two sons, Howard Leake III known as Lea, David Alexander and a daughter, Alice Karth Boatwright.
She performed at the White House in Washington D.C. for President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
She taught at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York; Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York; and the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
She was the youngest of six children.
She earned her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Music from the Oberlin College Conservatory in Ohio.
