Olympic champion figure skater Brian Boitano has signed on to produce the Netflix family film Take the Ice alongside Debra Martin Chase. Charles Randolph-Wright is aboard to direct.
The pic, written by Deborah Swisher, centers on Tisha Moore, a rebellious 15-year-old who has dreamed of becoming an ice skater her entire life. When Tisha gets the opportunity to join a local synchronized ice skating team, she is forced to come to terms with the root of her rebellious ways and must learn to trust others to achieve her dream.
Boitano, the two-time world champion who won the gold medal for the U.S. in men’s figure skating at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, will also serve as the film’s choreographer. An open casting...

For action movie veteran Bautista, My Spy’s big set pieces and stunts were all in a day’s work. But for Chloe Coleman, they provided new and wondrous experiences.
Brought to India by PVR Pictures, My Spy is all ready to release on 10th January 2020.
“This was the first time I got to do my own stunts, including jumping out of a [grounded] airplane, and it was a lot of fun,” Chloe Coleman recalls. “A high point were the explosions and running during the film’s climax – “definitely my favorite scenes to film,” she adds.
But there was one “stunt” that Chloe mastered much more quickly than her co-star: an ice-skating sequence where JJ reluctantly accompanies Chloe on a sojourn to a local rink.
Unfortunately, for Dave Bautista, the Toronto location had yet to undergo winter’s worst, and the water had not completely frozen. The combination of an extra-slippery...

Peacock, whose 2020 rollout initially was predicated on the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, had to switch gears when Covid-19 forced the postponement of the Games to 2021.
On Wednesday, the NBCUniversal streaming service launched a dedicated pop-up channel with one year to go before the rescheduled start of the Tokyo Games. The 24/7 “Road to Tokyo” channel, a collaboration with NBC Olympics, is dedicated to Olympic and Paralympic history, documentaries and studio programming.
As the news of the channel went out, the atmosphere was notably less ebullient in Japan, according to press reports. A small group of organizers gathered without fans for a ceremony marking the one-year mark from the new start of the Games, but participants acknowledged a high degree of uncertainty remains. The president of the Olympic organizing committee, Yoshiro Mori, told local broadcaster Nhk that the 2021 plan would not be feasible if current rates of infection persist around the world.

After the power, presence and flash of Prince, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime performances — not to mention the controversy of this weekend’s Maroon 5-Travis Scott spot — it’s hard to believe that the big game’s intermission show used to consist of college marching bands along with performers like the lily-white singing/dancing troupe Up with People and the late, great Carol Channing.
In retrospect, it’s surprising that it took 26 Super Bowls for people to realize the marketing potential a 12-minute show with an audience that is now estimated to be 100 million people — the single biggest audience for any musical performance on Earth. As the Stones, McCartney, Gaga and others have learned, it might be the best possible way to promote an upcoming tour.

Season 4 returnee Jen Gavin couldn’t stand the heat she was getting from Chef Gordon Ramsay last week on “Hell’s Kitchen” after their kerfuffle over missing duck garnish, and her mouthing off got her sent packing. That means both the Veterans and the Rookies have lost one chef-testant now.

As Rookie Chris Mendonca says, “That’s loony tunes at its finest, bro. Jen had an opportunity that people would kill for. To come back and she spits on Chef Ramsey’s face like that? What the (bleep) were you thinking?” Below, check out our “Hells Kitchen” recap for Season 18, Episode 4 that aired Friday, October 19 on Fox.

I’ll never forget the first time I experienced South Park. I was in college and there was this crazy video with Jesus and these 4 foul mouthed kids saying stuff you’ve never ever heard from cartoon characters. Jesus proceeded to have a Street Fighter II type fight with none other than figure skater Brian Boitano and at that point we were all hooked. Everyone I knew was talking about it and the name “South Park” became mainstream. However, I don’t think that anyone could have predicted that 20 years later the show would still be on Comedy Central, would

We’re embarking on a bit of an experiment with Meme beginning today. The format hasn’t changed much since I started writing this column three years ago– one giant post with snippets of information for you about pop culture, politics, my fear of cats (and why you too should fear them), cute animal stories, and the occasional Nsfw tidbit that I was afraid to print anywhere else.
This week we’re going to try breaking this unweildy behemoth up a bit, literally. In addition to a (shorter) grab bag morning post you’ll be getting several stories each day tagged as “Meme” — each as a standalone post.
The benefits to readers, I think, are we can be much more timely with news, provide more context when required, be more searchable, and allow you to share, say, a call to action about a protest with your mother, who may be gay supportive,...

There are many candidates for Thursday’s Olympic Stud of the Day, an EW.com tradition dating back to the 2008 Summer Games that honors the athlete who was the night’s biggest/coolest badass. Michael, a former Missouri defensive lineman and a NFL prospect, came out as gay on Feb. 9. And after his brave announcement, Jason Collins, Chad Johnson, and many more athletes from several different sports took to Twitter to praise Michael’s courage and offer him support.
With Michael Sam announcing he is gay on Feb. 9, there is a ton of skepticism over how he’ll be received if he’s drafted into the NFL in May. But judging from the support the former Missouri defensive lineman has received in the wake of his announcement, the welcoming might be much warmer than we all first thought.

President Barack Obama has had two interviews recently on what are arguably the two biggest stages in the United States, the Super Bowl and now the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Fox News host Bill O'Reilly sat down with the president during the Super Bowl pre-game show, where O'Reilly asked some tough (and oft-heard on Fox News) questions: Explain the healthcare website snafu; what did you know and not know about Benghazi?; why is the IRS investigating conservative groups?
During the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics, Obama will have another interview, this time with NBC host and sportscaster Bob Costas, which is in sharp contrast to the pre-Super Bowl interview. A preview has been released by NBC:
Costas: "You are sending openly gay athletes like Caitlin Kaho and Brian Boitano as part of the delegation. It's hard to miss the message that's being sent there."

The Google Doodle on Google’s homepage clearly shows the company taking a stand against Olympic host Russia’s stance on the Lgbt community.
Google's Rainbow Olympics Doodle
Designed to look like a rainbow-colored, six-lane track, the homepage logo features athletes in six winter Olympic sports – skiing, hockey, curling, bobsled, figure skating and snowboarding.
Below the logo and the search bar, Google inserted a quote from the Olympic Charter: "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play."
Russia’s anti-gay laws, which were implemented last year, can fine and jail foreigners who are found guilty of spreading “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” to minors. Furthermore, the country has banned same-sex couples from adopting Russian-born children and gay pride rallies.

The original version of Sherlock‘s stag night montage included a scene in a gay club that didn’t make it into the final version. “There were lots of topless men going past, and (Sherlock and John) are just like, ‘Why are we here?’,” Martin Freeman told a Q&A audience. The bit was cut because the montage was determined to be too long.
Psych will air its final episode after the current, eight season wraps on March 26. On the bright side, fans are promised the finale will provide closure and will be followed by a farewell talk show.
I guess this means there won’t be that Sherlock crossover I hoped for.

The CW’s Flash pilot just added two more cast members. Deadline reports that Girlfriends alum Candice Patton will play Iris West, Barry Allen‘s best friend. Additionally, Broadway star Carlos Valdes (Once) has been cast to play an engineering genius named Cisco Ramon. Both names should be familiar to DC comics fans but since Arrow has had a character called “Speedy” and another named Roy Harper who didn’t end up the way we would have expected, don’t nerd out too quickly.
Transgender activist Janet Mock has called out Piers Morgan Live for an interview segment that was edited to focus on the physical aspects of her transition and her relationships, sensationalizing Mock’s story with similarly sensational descriptions for Mock appearing on screen. Is it really that hard for people like Morgan or Katie Couric to do some basic research on the topic they’re about to discuss?...

Actor urges Us to take a more forthright stance in run-up to Sochi Olympics over ban on 'propaganda'
• Gus van Sant to attend threatened Russian Lgbt film festival
Chris Pine has joined the calls for the Us to do more to protest against Russia's draconian anti-gay laws in the run-up to the showpiece Sochi Winter Olympics, which are due to begin next month.
While promoting his new film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Pine said: "I think we should do more than just send gay Olympians there ... What's happening there in terms of gay rights or the lack of it is extraordinary and awful."
This is a reference to the Us's decision to send openly gay tennis star Billie Jean King to Sochi as head of the Us delegation, along with skater Brian Boitano and ice hockey player Caitlin Cahow.

Mikaela Shiffrin became the youngest American skier named a World Cup champion last year, and now holds the hopes of the country going into the Sochi Olympics with standout Lindsey Vonn sidelined with injury.
Who Is Mikaela Shiffrin?
Last week, after capturing her second World Cup slalom victory, Shiffrin learned that Vonn wouldn’t be competing at Sochi – and that she’d now become the skier in the spotlight. At 18, Shriffin is somewhat of a prodigy in the ski world, and her rise to success along with the help of her family proves to be a great narrative.
Both of Shiffrin’s parents – Jeff and Eileen – have long been involved in skiing, as is her brother Taylor, reported The New York Times. With her mom traveling with her to Italy when she was just 14, Shriffin won an international race for 13 and 14-year-olds – the win getting her on the radar of ski enthusiasts.

Olympic gold medal-winning figure skater Brian Boitano was recently named to the U.S. delegation for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia -- and then made headlines by coming out of the closet.
Boitano is joined on the delegation by tennis player Billie Jean King and ice hockey player Caitlin Cahow, who are both openly gay -- a message from President Obama to Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin about its anti-gay laws. The figure skater tells "Today" that he could not let this opportunity pass him by.

"When the president named the delegation and I read in the news what his message was of tolerance and diversity, I thought, 'I have to take this opportunity.' I think the message is so strong and I've always wanted to represent my country as best I could.
