Margo Price is leading off a new all-star tribute album to Leon Russell, A Song for Leon, with her take on the great singer-songwriter’s 1971 tune, “Stranger in a Strange Land.”
Price’s rendition of the Leon Russell and the Shelter People opener is rich and booming, a glorious country rocker that feels at once distinct from, and lovingly faithful to, the original. In a statement, Price described “Stranger in a Strange Land” as a “prolific” song and noted that, since recording the cover, it’s become a staple at her live shows.

When most people think of Fleetwood Mac, they picture the band’s 1970s lineup. However, the group has seen plenty of other musicians, but they didn’t always stick around very long. One singer, Bekka Bramlett, was actually fired from Fleetwood Mac via fax.
Bekka Bramlett joined Fleetwood Mac in the 1990s
Bramlett, the daughter of 70s rock duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, first linked up with the members of Fleetwood Mac through one of drummer Mick Fleetwood’s solo projects. She sang with his other band, the Zoo, through 1991 and 1992.
The next year, Fleetwood and bassist John McVie decided to go out on the road and tour as Fleetwood Mac — without singer Stevie Nicks, guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham, or pianist and vocalist Christine McVie.
“We ended up with a bunch of talented people playing good music, but they should not have been touring as Fleetwood Mac,” Mick Fleetwood...

Fans of classic rock know all too well the tumultuous history so many of their favorite bands dealt with. Whether due to success or failure, band members often come and go, often to pursue solo careers. Fleetwood Mac, of course, was no exception. But one band member, Bekka Bramlett, once revealed she “felt a little bit disposable” during her time playing with Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac first formed in 1967, releasing its self-titled debut album the following year. But founders Mick Fleetwood and John McVie have really been the only consistent band members throughout its epic decades-long run in the music business. Even so, the early 1990s were a particularly rough time for Fleetwood Mac. In 1994, the band toured without Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and...

Classic rock aficionados likely know all too well what their favorite bands have gone through to make such chart-topping music. Yet, even among its peers, Fleetwood Mac has had an extraordinary amount of behind-the-scenes drama. In fact, one singer recently revealed she knew she was only serving as a replacement until Stevie Nicks finally returned to the fold.

During the early 1990s, Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and Christine McVie had all left Fleetwood Mac for one reason or another. And founders Mick Fleetwood and John McVie turned to some replacement talent to fill out the line-up. The new additions? Dave Mason of Traffic, rockabilly singer Billy Burnette, and Bekka Bramlett, daughter of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett of music duo Delaney & Bonnie.

Wandering the hallways in the depths of the Macon City Auditorium, Chuck Leavell was just moments away from taking the stage for the Capricorn Revival concert at the historic Georgia venue.
“To see all of this come back to life is nothing short of a miracle,” Leavell told Rolling Stone before sitting behind his keyboards as the musical director of the showcase, the official relaunch of the former Capricorn Records studio and the groundbreaking label that’s been dormant for years, its original Macon studio abandoned for decades.

Since his days as a 2003 “American Idol” contestant – and subsequent victor – Ruben Studdard has received one request: cover the music of singer-composer Luther Vandross. Studdard even heard as much from his mother Emily after his “Idol” win. The resemblance of two big men with dynamic tenor voices and winding interpolative skills is certainly striking. Studdard all but sealed his fate in regard to the late Luther when a licensing snafu caused the then-contestant to cover “Superstar,” the 1969 Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell tune for which Vandross lent his grand interpretative skills in 1983.
From the stage of the Keswick Theatre in the Philadelphia suburb of Glenside, Penn. on Saturday, Studdard confessed to all-of-the-above while elegantly channeling Vandross for his “Ruben Sings Luther” showcase. Based on the recently-released Seg Music album of the same name, the “Velvet Teddy Bear” appropriated much of the late tenor’s nuances without mimicking too much of Vandross’ athleticism.

"Radiator Sister" - The Mynabirds Generals (Saddle Creek) - Infectious, bubble-gum snappin' tunes abound on this sophomore long player from singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn. All aptly produced by Richard Swift, but for my limited ducats this iPod-friendly ditty is the bees-ness. Equal parts Bow Wow Wow and T.Rex, with its two-note piano hook.
"Among the Leaves" Sun Kil Moon Among the Leaves (Caldo Verde) - Mark Kozelek remains steadfast in his musical offerings; familiar turf, but still so damn compelling. Alt tunings, heartfelt ballads, and lyrical dexterity all remain firmly in place. The gentle tug of his band behind him keep...

Little River Band was the first Australian band to successfully conquer foreign markets from an Australian base.
Within eight months of their birth, Lrb had already scored three Australian Top 20 singles and two Top Ten albums. In 1976, after their self-titled debut album was released in the USA, the long grind of 13 Us tours in eight years had begun.
By 1982 they became the only act - from anywhere - to have a top ten Us single for six consecutive years.
Headlining their own major shows in America, and touring internationally with the likes of the Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, America, and the Eagles was a huge learning curve that honed Lrb into one of the finest live bands in the world.
Record success ran alongside - total record sales around the world have eclipsed the 25 million mark. 16 hit singles by 1985, as well as gold, platinum, and multi-platinum album sales awards. All-told Lrb...
