If you can believe it, the Thor-obsessed kid from Adventures in Babysitting is now in her 40s and for the most part well out of the spotlight. She had a resurgence in 2015 for a brief moment it would appear but apart from that she hasn’t been seen on camera that much, if at all, for the past five years or so. But if anyone remembers her, Maia Brewton was around a time or two in the movies and on TV as she played a minor part in Back to the Future as one of Lorraine’s siblings, and she was

The adventure continues. After spending years in development, an updated remake of Adventures in Babysitting is set to make its debut on Disney Channel later this summer. The movie—inspired by the 1987 comedy of the same name starring Elisabeth Shue, Penelope Anne Miller, Keith Coogan and Maia Brewton—begins when Lola (Descendants' Sofia Carson) and Jenny (Girl Meets World's Sabrina Carpenter) accidentally switch phones and Lola accepts a babysitting job on Jenny's behalf. Neither of them realizes that it's not all that easy to keep a watchful eye on the four Cooper children (Nikki Hahn, Mallory James Mahoney, Madison Horcher and Jet Jurgensmeyer). In fact, one of the kids goes...

Virtually everyobody of a certian generation remembers the 1987 hit Adventures in Babysitting fondly. One of it.s best-remembered scenes is one is the one in which Thor-obsessed child Sara (Maia Brewton) believes the mechanic fixing their car is, in fact, the Asgardian god. But why is the little girl so into Thor? Turns out it.s because director Chris Columbus had no idea who He-Man and She-Ra were. Speaking with Yahoo Movies, Columbus talked about his directorial debut and how he.d never even heard of He-Man and She-Ra, the characters that Sara was supposed to be in love with. He said: In the original script, the young girl was obsessed with characters named He-Man and She-Ra...At the time, those characters meant nothing to me. But I was a huge Marvel comic book fanatic, and so I thought Thor would be an interesting character to go with . not having...

When news hit yesterday that Thor would become a woman in the pages of Marvel comics, speculation was immediate about whether the character could also switch gender on the big screen. Considering the change in the books is not just a short-term thing, according to Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso (“We have no real exit plan,” he told Time), there’s good reason to think it could impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth has three more movies in his contract with Marvel Studios, one of which is next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Another installment each of the Avengers and Thor series is expected to fill the rest of that run. Then, maybe he can be replaced by a woman. Easy pickings, right? Well, she has to be worthy of filling Hemsworth’s boots, and that means maybe not being cast with a short, petite actress. The concept art for the new Thor doesn’t...

Jaws (1975) Universal Blu-ray/DVD/Digital combo Available Now
Steven Spielberg’s classic thriller has been painstakingly restored from the original film elements. Amity Island has never been so beautiful. The movie itself seems to improve with age, with amazing performances and scenes that still manage to unnerve — Susan Backlinie’s death at the beginning is truly one of the most horrifying ever portrayed onscreen. Making this a true “special edition” is the long-awaited release of The Shark Is Still Working, an expansive documentary on the making and the impact of the 1975 film. All of the surviving cast and crew are interviewed along with several minutes of never-before-seen footage.
Special Features:
*Digitally remastered and fully restored from high resolution 35mm original film elements.

Oh, to be an affluent, Chicago-based teenager in the late 1980s; judging by this and the entire oeuvre of John Hughes, there may not be a social set to envy more. It's not so much that all of these characters don't have any problems (they find enough of them here) as much as they are incapable of reacting to serious trauma in the way that it merits. The kids in Adventures in Babysitting get themselves in plenty of scrapes, but none of them seem unsolvable by way of moping or plain old gumption.
Stood up on her anniversary, Chris (Elisabeth Shue) decides to take a babysitting job tending Sara (Maia Brewton) and Brad (Keith Coogan) for the evening. When her friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller) calls stranded from the inter-city, Chris has little choice but to go in and get her, bringing the kids and Daryl (Anthony Rapp) in tow.

Given the recent surge of 1980s popular culture nostalgia, discussions of that decade’s iconic films unfailingly revert to the unique 1980s teen comedy genre, always dominated by the catalog of John Hughes. But sadly, some outstanding films from that era are overlooked or even forgotten, and all teen movies from this period seem to be unfairly compared to Hughes’s work. One such semi-lost and under-appreciated gem is director Chris Columbus’s delightful 1987 teen comedy “Adventures in Babysitting.”
The movie opens in Chicago’s Oak Park suburb with the pretty, charming, 17-year-old girl next door Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue) preparing for a romantic evening with her dreamy boyfriend Mike Todwell (Bradley Whitford). Mike finally arrives, only to inform Chris that his younger sister is sick, and that he is unable to take her out. Devastated, Chris mopes in her bedroom, seeking comfort from her band geek friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller...

Ahead of Thor’s arrival in cinemas, we take a fond look back at an 80s movie that saw Vincent D’Onofrio star as the mighty hero. Well, sort of...
With the release of Thor imminent, I thought it would be an ideal time to revisit one of my favourite films from my childhood, which just so happens to be the finest film to date to feature the God of Thunder, Adventures In Babysitting.
The film was also known as A Night On The Town around its original release in 1987, but now carries the title Adventures In Babysitting on all copies that I've seen lately. The story follows Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue), a high school senior who's set to go on a dream date in the city with her boyfriend, Mike Todwell (Bradley Whitford), who's pretty much the boy of Chris' dreams and drives a red Camaro with the un-cool...

These are ten former teen and child actors who returned to normal civilian life only to be recognized occasionally at Starbucks and mentioned occasionally on a site like this.

On September 2 1990, just in time for the beginning of my junior year of high school, Fox debuted a new show called Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. With cautious optimism I, along with millions of other American teenage girls, watched and calculated whether or not we’d have to make room on our walls next to Corey Haim and Jason Bateman for a Corin Nemic “Tiger Beat” poster. The next day, pushpins in hand, I started making new holes in that wall.
With Ferris Buehler still fresh in our minds, and starving for some teen comedy after years of The Golden Girls, Roseanne and Cheers, Parker Lewis showed up just in time to offer some blatant silliness with memorable characters, timely jokes and creative effects. Taking place at Santo Domingo High School, Parker (Corin Nemec) who narrates the show, and his two partners in crime, Mikey (Billy Jayne, better known as...

Ah, Santo Domingo High; home of easily spooked freshmen, mountainous jocks, and the coolest student to ever own a Swatch. As the title character of Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Corin Nemec strolls through Domingo’s halls armed with unshakable self-confidence, a plan for every situation, and an apparently endless supply of pastel shirts. Accompanied by his two best buds, Billy Jayne (the cool one) and Troy Slaten (the nerdy one), Nemec lives and loves his way through the 26 episodes of Parker Lewis’ first season, but things aren’t always easy. There’s Maia Brewton, the little sister who ...

After tackling horror with All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and giving us an entirely different fright with May-December smooching in The Wackness, Jonathan Levine is getting ready for babysitting. The Hollywood Reporter posts that he has signed on to direct a new screenplay by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka called The Sitter -- a film that's looking back to the good ol' days of 1987 and Adventures in Babysitting.
While that adventure boiled up out of a canceled date, The Sitter will follow a college student who gets suspended for a semester and heads back home to live with his single mom. He gets talked into babysitting "the eccentric kids next door -- two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl," and, I presume, something adventurous happens ... otherwise the comparison is quite pointless. Furthermore, this is not to be confused with that super-awesome sequel to the 1987 film that Disney is cooking...

Remember Adventures in Babysitting, the Chris Columbus teen comedy with Elisabeth Shue? Comic fans were most amused that one of her charges, Sara (Maia Brewton), wore Thor’s helmet throughout the film and Vincent D'Onofrio’s creepy character was nicknamed Thor.
The movie did well enough to spawn a short-lived television series and finally word is out that a sequel is being made. The star will be Miley Cyrus, according to The Chicago Sun -Times, and the movie is slated for 2010. The Hannah Montana star will appear opposite fellow Disney headline Raven Symone with Tiffany Paulsen (Nancy Drew) at work on the script.
