When we talk about classic TV shows from the '70s, it's hard not to mention "The Six Million Dollar Man." Airing for five seasons on ABC, the show focuses on astronaut Steve Austin who is gravely injured in a spaceship crash. He then undergoes a government surgery that replaces his body parts with machine parts, making him part man, part cyborg. With the new powers afforded him by these upgrades, Steve goes to work for the Office of Scientific Information, battling evil forces.
The show ran for 99 episodes and inspired six TV movies. Mark Wahlberg has even been attached to star in a big-screen adaptation of the show for years now, with the project stalling out at various points. But Lee Majors was the man responsible for originally bringing the character to life. 50 years removed from the show's premiere on network television, Majors and several other of the show's...

One of the best pictures to come out of Hollywood in the late 1960s, Sydney Pollack’s screen version of Horace McCoy’s hardboiled novel is a harrowing experience guaranteed to elicit extreme responses. Jane Fonda performs (!) at the top of an ensemble of stars suffering in a Depression-Era circle of Hell – it’s an Annihilating Drama with a high polish. And this CineSavant review ends with a fact-bomb that ought to start Barbara Steele fans off on a new vault search.

"Those words resonate when we've lost someone who made a special impact on us." The emotional tribute acknowledged some of the most beloved onscreen talent. • Check out People's full 2016 SAG Awards coverage and complete winners list! Some of the iconic actors...

Martin E. Brooks, the actor, producer, director, and teacher best known for his work as Dr. Rudy Wells on the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman series, died Monday in Studio City, California. Movie producer Jon Landau, son of Brooks's longtime partner, confirmed the 90-year-old's death with THR, citing natural causes. Brooks began as Wells for The Six Million Dollar Man in 1975, owning the role throughout the rest of the decade there and on The Bionic Woman, as well as into the ’80s and ’90s with three related TV movies. Although Wells was his most recognizable character, Brooks enjoyed a TV career that spanned more than four decades, appearing in other such shows as Gunsmoke, Planet of the Apes, Dallas, Cagney & Lacey, and Hunter. The Bronx native also made his mark on (and off-) Broadway in the ’50s and ’60s, in such plays as An Enemy of the People,...

Brooks was the “soul mate” of Landau’s mother, Edie (also a producer), for the past 20 years, he said. The two grew up in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where they had been friends as children, and reconnected in 1993 after her husband died. Brooks was the third

It’s always sad when an older show goes to become a pop-culture touchstone for countless shows that followed (like the spin-off The Bionic Woman or even children’s cartoon Inspector Gadget), yet doesn’t have the quality to endure the aging process and stand up to future scrutiny. The Six Million Dollar Man has the iconic “We can rebuild him line” and that signature sound accompaniment for when leaping an incredible distance, but the storylines never really fleshed out to be too deep or intricately plotted. Expectations for action/spy adventure serials had to meet a lower bar. In defense of the series, it easily exceeds the expectations for a series of its time, but in comparison to some of the better...

“We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better…stronger…faster.” And hell, while we’re here let’s build a kick-ass DVD box set too that’s as cool as it is practical. Sturdy… awesome… and featuring an audio chip that intones the show’s opening voice-over when the lid is opened. But we’ll just ignore the terrible mustache shot on the case for season four… The Show: Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch… Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na… you know what I’m talking about. At least you do if you were a child in the seventies or eighties who found a weekly dose of action and adventure with Steve Austin and friends. The Six Million Dollar Man (Tsmdm) featured Lee Majors as Austin, an astronaut famous for walking on the moon who returns safely to Earth only to tease death in an accident. The Osi, a top secret wing of the government, decides...

In the spin-off from "The Six Million Dollar Man," Jaime is Colonel Steve Austin's (Lee Majors) true love and a tennis professional. When she nearly dies from a sky-diving accident, Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks), who rebuilt the Six Million Dollar Man (Lee Majors), saves her with...
