Brady United is collaborating with more than 200 working mothers in the entertainment industry on a new campaign called #FiredUp, urging that Hollywood include more depictions of gun safety in scripts.
The campaign is being led by a group including producer and executive Jen Gorton, producer and executive Stacy Calabrese and writer Jessica Kantor. In a statement, Gorton said that they “hope by engaging with people in all aspects of TV and filmmaking, on all levels, we can change the culture from the ground up.” The idea is to shift perspective on the depiction of guns and gun safety in the same way that the industry highlighted drunk driving, smoking and seatbelt use.
Brady president Kris Brown said that the “first ask” of the group is to write gun safety messages in scripts, including characters locking away firearms. Brady United already has been in the midst of a “Show Gun Safety” campaign,...

Writer-producer Matt Nix, writer-producer Aaron Rahsaan Thomas, and writer Ephraim Salaam and others are gathering this evening at WME for Brady United Against Gun Violence’s Show Gun Safety Summit.
The event will focus on how content creators can “model gun safety on screen to positively change attitudes and behaviors about guns, helping save lives,” the organization said.
It’s part of an increased effort by Brady United to the entertainment community via a culture and gun safety initiative. Their Show Gun Safety campaign has included a meeting of entertainment figures at the White House last spring, a partnership with USC’s Norman Lear Center’s Hollywood, Health and Society and a list of best practices.
Jessica Yellin will moderate the panel, with attendees also including Brady President Kris Brown and WME’s Dani Potter.

Authorities are trying to determine how 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, despite being convicted of domestic assault in a military court, was able to obtain multiple guns before he opened fire on a rural Texas church on Sunday morning, a federal official tells People.
“A lot of questions remain unanswered,” says the official, who has direct knowledge of the investigation into the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, that killed 26.
The official is not authorized to communicate with the press and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
High on investigators’ agenda, the official says, is to confirm how Kelley could buy...

Ashlyn Melton wasn’t worried when her 13-year-old son Noah went to a sleepover at his best friend’s house in December 2011.
But a post-midnight phone call changed everything. Her ex-husband was on the line, relaying second- and thirdhand messages that sent Melton racing to the friend’s house. There, she was met by police who told her Noah had been fatally shot.
Initially, she thought they had been robbed, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, the other boy had picked up one of four unsecured guns in his room, and, not knowing it was loaded, shot Noah,...

T is for Talk Short Film. Peter Haynes‘ T is for Talk (2011) short film stars Caitlin Bennett, Benjamin Teh, Ally Xue, Campbell Cooley, Matthew Darragh, and Anzel Greyling. T is for Talk‘s plot synopsis: “contestants are held in a single room and must talk when prompted to and be silent went not or they will be killed.”
Good production value and shots. The contest is inventive as well. The viewer has no idea how these people were selected or how they got there (even a priest is present). The only thing that exists is the horrific game. This short film is part of The ABCs of Death contest. You can vote for the film here.

Warner Bros. is giving Zack Snyder's director's cut of "Watchmen" a limited theatrical rollout one week before Comic-Con International in San Diego.
The cut, which will have an additional 25 minutes of footage including the death of a supporting character, will screen in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and Dallas before the movie is released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 21.
The rollout will culminate with a special screening July 25 at Comic-Con that is designed to act as a Bd-Live event, a Blu-ray feature that will allow any viewer in North America to watch the movie simultaneously as the audience at Comic-Con, see and hear Snyder comment on the movie, and even ask questions. The screening will then be archived and will be able to be accessed for future viewings.
