2022 has been a devastating year for the world of animation. The Oscars kicked things off by relegating animated feature films to nothing more than children's fodder, Netflix is slowly disintegrating its entire animation department, an animated voice-over legend left this mortal plane far too soon, some of the best animated films of the year were unceremoniously dropped on streaming instead of being given the opportunity to shine in theaters, and HBO Max has absolutely obliterated its animation catalog, recreating the very problem that Cartoon Network was created to solve. Animators are continuing to fight for fair wages and better work environments while the industry as a whole continues to treat the medium with the same modicum of respect given to a wet newspaper.

WarnerMedia is announcing a stepped-up commitment to preschool and kids programming across Cartoon Network and streaming service HBO Max, with a goal of reaching 50 original preschool shows in the next two years.
The company made the announcement of the fall programming plans ahead of a virtual upfront presentation to media buyers. HBO Max is ramping up its offerings for advertisers ahead of the launch of an ad-supported tier of its service, which WarnerMedia expects to launch by June.
Cartoon Network, designated as the central kids and family brand for WarnerMedia, has adopted a new tagline “Redraw Your World.” The aim of that message, a press release said, is “to empower kids to feel comfortable with who they are, embrace their uniqueness and believe in their own ability to impact change.” The network said it has also made its first kid-musician-in-residence deal with Nandi Bushell, a 10-year-old viral music star.

Alan Turing, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Craig of the Creek, and more in today's daily Link Tank!
Here's what the Sith Troopers really mean for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
"In 2005, the entire Star Wars saga ended with the word “Sith.” Back then, Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith was, as far as we all knew, the period at the end of the Star Wars sentence. I remember this really well because I had a bootleg t-shirt that said: “I Don’t Give a Sith” in that Star Wars font and I wore it out drinking all the time, mostly just to see who would talk to me about Star Wars in New York bars in 2005. (Note: it wasn’t that cool to talk about Star Wars in bars in 2005.)"
