In the early 90s, producer Aaron Spelling and TV creator Darren Star struck primetime drama gold with the high school soap opera Beverly Hills 90210. The show laid the groundwork for some good old-fashioned scheduled viewing for homes waiting to see what kinds of trouble the kids at West Beverly would get into. While the series would get to put its characters in some compromising situations like Brandon’s gambling, Brenda‘s pregnancy scare, Dylan’s drug use or Donna Martin graduating, Spelling would explore more steamy stories with the spin-off Melrose Place. The show would crossover stars as Beverly’s Dylan and Kelly befriended Melrose resident Jake. And when Heather Locklear was added to the cast, the show’s popularity would skyrocket.

Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the Og stars. Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis.
Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. Here’s the logline: “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the Og residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
CBS Studios is behind the reboot, based on the series created by Darren Star.

Melrose Place was one of the most popular Primetime soaps from the 1990s. Now, several Melrose Place cast members are getting back together for a reunion, including the man who helped launch the show to success.
Here is who is reuniting, where it will be, and how you can see them later in 2024.
Cast Returning For Melrose Place Reunion
Melrose Place was a spinoff from Beverly Hills, 90210, and started when Grant Show’s Jake Hanson made an appearance on 90210 as a backdoor pilot, luring Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) to Melrose Place to see him again – which is how the pilot took place.
Fans met the colorful characters who lived at Melrose Place, including Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) and his wife Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett). Andrew Shue played writer Billy Campbell, Courtney Thorne-Smith played Alison Parker, and Doug Savant played gay social worker Matt Fielding. While it’s true that insects thrive in warmer climates, They Nest dreamed up a species that can withstand the cold, not to mention turn humans into walking roach motels. Despite its dead-of-winter setting, USA Network aired the debut of New Zealand filmmaker Ellory Elkayem — later retitled Creepy Crawlers on home video — in late July of 2000. By then, the cable channel had unleashed several other “when animals attack” telefilms; feral cats (Strays), displaced serpents (Rattled) and one radioactive pooch (Atomic Dog) all took a bite out of mankind. Their next creature-feature, however, would be the first to truly get under people’s skin.
Former Melrose Place stud Thomas Calabro played yet another troubled doctor in They Nest. Infidelity was among Michael Mancini’s most glaring personal issues, but Ben Cahill is simply recovering from his recent divorce and a drinking problem. Patrika Darbo, whose Daytime Emmy for her guest-starring role on Amazon’s soap opera The Bay was rescinded after organizer the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences found submission errors in her and other categories, has called out the group for its actions and wants an outside audit “to restore integrity and confidence in” the awards.
NATAS said after the Daytime Emmys were handed out in April that it discovered “some entrants’ submissions in two categories may have been in violation of the published guidelines for the competition,” which state that prior-season appearances are disqualifying.
But Darbo says in an open letter today that NATAS knew about the submission errors “two days prior to the ceremony and made a conscious decision not to deal with it until after the ceremony was over.” She says the organization’s “arbitrary and after-the-fact ruling feels inequitable and wrong.” (Read the letter in full below.

At the 2018 Daytime Emmy Awards, the award for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Digital Daytime Drama Series was given to Patrika D'Arbo for her work as Mickey Walker on The Bay, however, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has decided to revoke her award. However, despite reports published elsewhere — and quotes from the actress herself — the reason for the award being taken back was not due to the number of episodes submitted but because she had previously appeared on the digital soap opera. "Following the 45th Daytime Emmy Awards in Pasadena, California," NATAS said in a statement. "NATAS received a credible report that some entrants' submissions in two categories may have been in violation of the published guidelines for the competition. NATAS immediately commissioned a thorough internal investigation and determined that Patrika and Thomas Calabro, both of Amazon's The Bay, should have been deemed ineligible for consideration in...

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has rescinded the Daytime Emmy Award it gave last month to Patrika Darbo for her guest-starring role on the Amazon soap opera The Bay. The organization said today a submission error regarding her and her The Bay castmate Thomas Calabro in the category of Guest Performer in a Digital Daytime Drama Series had been discovered, and that both were determined to be ineligible because they had appeared in a prior season of the series.
NATAS said today it “received a credible report” after the Daytime Emmys were awarded April 27 and April 29 “that some entrants’ submissions in two categories may have been in violation of the published guidelines for the competition.” After an investigation, it rescinded Darbo’s honor and the nominations of both her and Colabro’s, saying it will not re-award the trophy.

The early success of CBS’ new “The Big Bang Theory” prequel “Young Sheldon” is a reminder that often the most successful spin-offs look or feel completely different from their mother ship. “The Simpsons” was nothing like “The Tracey Ullman Show.” “Mork and Mindy” was set in a different time frame than “Happy Days.” And “Maude,” “The Jeffersons” and “Good Times” featured characters with a completely different mindset from “All in the Family’s” Archie Bunker.
Try as TV executives and creators might, it’s nearly impossible to replicate success in the same world or with many of the same characters. (Looking at you, “Joey” and “AfterMASH.”) Some of the best TV spinoffs succeed specifically because they approach a familiar template from a completely different angle. Spin-offs come in many forms: Some are continuations of series that have ended. Others follow popular characters on their own journeys. And some are simply planted into a hit show,...

Heather Locklear is retaining her reputation as a show-booster.
She cemented it with the original "Melrose Place," which she helped make one of the 1990s' most buzzed-about series as Amanda Woodward, the well-tailored business shark and serial acquirer of other women's men. Locklear returns to weekly work when Season 3 of TNT's law drama "Franklin & Bash" starts Wednesday, June 19, but her return as Amanda on The CW's short-lived "Melrose" reboot reaffirmed to her that there are no guarantees.

Dot Marie Jones just sealed her second guest actress Emmy nomination with her stellar performance in the Very Special "Glee" episode "Choke," right? Coach Bieste has shown a real vulnerability over the past two seasons, and Jones did a great job in the poignant material she was given as Bieste struggles with domestic abuse by her new husband Cooter.
It's a shame she went back to him in the end, and even sadder that she had to lie about it to Sue. If it's handled anywhere near as well as the recent teen suicide plot, this storyline could be truly awesome.
Now, on to the titular "Choke" -- Rachel and Kurt finally had their Nyada auditions, and Kurt took a risk and absolutely nailed it while Rachel choked on "Don't Rain on My Parade," a song she's been belting since she was a toddler.

Glee is still a show! It's so easy not to miss it much during this blessed hiatus, but now there's more casting news, so back it goes, onto the front burner in our minds. Lindsay Lohan is in "final negotiations" to guest-star as herself later this season, TV Line reports, which is both deeply ridiculous and yet somehow strangely appropriate. She'd play one of the judges at nationals. (Looks like she got over the time Gwyneth Paltrow's character made fun of how many times she'd been to rehab.) In other Glee news, Whoopi Goldberg will be doing a three-episode guest arc at the end of this season. She'll play a representative from the fictional fake-Juilliard that Rachel and Kurt are desperately trying to get into. Goldberg's character will be named Carmen Tibideaux, because that's just what Glee does. Goldberg and Lohan join Thomas Calabro, Jeff Goldblum, Ricky Martin, Matt Bomer,...

Continuing the season long trend of introducing us to various members of the Glee cast’s families, when Glee returns we will be blessed with the introduction of Puck’s father. We’ve already met his mother, who was played by Gina Hecht and first appeared in the Season 1 episode, “Mash-Up,” but when you meet just one parent it’s like only getting one side to very a good story. If you really want to know how Puck ended up the way he is then we’ll need to understand who is father is and how me might have affected Puck as he grew up. Parenting is fun like that.
