Kevin Spacey has delivered an upbeat message to TV creatives asking them to wrestle their productions from the hands of execs – but are they really to blame? Is this an international problem, or a Us one?
John Plunkett discusses the issues with Heat Magazine's TV editor Boyd Hilton, Broadcast magazine editor Lisa Campbell and Media Talk regular Maggie Brown.
Plus, Vince Gilligan, creator and exec of Breaking Bad, explains how he cut his teeth writing on The X Files and Charlie Brooker talks about his future with the Guardian.
Rebecca Nicholson finds the time between drinks receptions to see a few TV previews, including Channel 4's new sitcom Man Down by Greg Davies.
Warning: as is the way with TV executives, there's strong language throughout the podcast.

New York -- Broadway's newest Little Orphan Annie has found her Sandy.
The award-winning animal trainer William Berloni on Thursday unveiled the pooch who is slated to star in the Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning musical "Annie" – Sunny, a 2-year-old female terrier mix rescued from a city pound in Houston.
"The most talented animals are right there under your nose," said Berloni, who makes it a point of using shelter dogs in all his projects. "The message is: Animals in shelters are not damaged, just unfortunate."
Sunny was only 24 hours away from being euthanized four months ago when Berloni spotted her photo online while conducting a nationwide search for Sandy. She had been mislabeled as male and given the name Bruno. Touched, he forwarded her photo to one of the show's producers, Arielle Tepper Madover, who wrote back, "Save her. I don't care what it costs."

New York -- Pet lovers won't have to look away anymore when those heart-wrenching TV ads appear during the Westminster dog show – the ones with the pitiful little faces peering out from behind those rusted bars of a cage and wondering "how I ended up in here."
Happy dogs will rule the air waves this year, thanks to a new sponsor for America's most prestigious dog competition and a decision to air ads that shift the focus away from sad-eyed animals in need of adoption.
"The feedback we got from our primary audience was that they were seeing commercials that made them want to turn the channel," Westminster spokesman and longtime TV host David Frei said Thursday.
Nestle Purina PetCare is the new sponsor for America's most prestigious dog competition that begins Monday at Madison Square Garden, replacing Pedigree after 24 years. The switch will bring a shift in the tone...

It was a mother's intuition that finally rescued Jaycee Lee Dugard from the clutches of Phillip Garrido. Kidnapped by Garrido and his wife, Nancy, in 1991 from the bus stop in front of her South Lake Tahoe home, Jaycee, now 29, lived, along with the two children she bore her rapist, in lean-tos and tents behind his Antioch, Calif., house for 18 years. Jaycee's fate finally changed on Monday, Aug. 24, when a University of California, Berkeley, female cop grew suspicious of Garrido after he came to campus with the two daughters, aged 15 and 11, looking for an event permit to distribute religious flyers."He was clearly unstable,...
