Roundabout Theatre Company will present of Picnic, starring Reed Birney as Howard Bevans, Maggie Grace as Madge Owens, Elizabeth Marvel as Rosemary Sydney, Sebastian Stan as Hal Carter, Mare Winningham as Flo Owens and Ellen Burstyn as Helen Potts. This production will be directed by Sam Gold. The cast will also feature Madeleine Martin Millie Owens, Ben Rappaport Alan Seymour, Cassie Beck Christine Schoenwalde, Maddie Corman Irma Kronkite, Chris Perfetti Bomber. Picnic will begin previews on December 14, 2012 and open officially on January 13, 2013 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway 227 West 42 nd Street. Joshua Logan's 1955 screen adaptation of William Inge's Broadway sensation Picnic has been released on Blu-ray by the excellent Twilight Time label as a 3,000 unit limited edition. The play helped boost Paul Newman to stardom but amazingly he was excluded from the film version, along with most of his fellow cast members. Inge's play presented an unusually frank examination of repressed sexual frustration in a small Kansas town. That tension boils over with the arrival of Hal Carter (William Holden), a charismatic drifter whose arrival in town sets off a combustible tinderbox of emotions among the residents.
