He was a pioneer in electronic music, having become inspired by his WWII Royal Navy training in radar. He built the first electronic
studio at the Royal College of Music, and was instrumental in the
invention of the synthesizer.
Composed over 70 concert works, of which 29 make use of electronic instrumentation.
Wrote the "Illustrated Compendium of Musical Terminology", considered a bible for electronica.
