When it comes to smarts, charm, and humor (not to mention a great, saucy smirk), Nathan Fillion is the total package.
Appropriately, then, the actor — who plays a writer on ABC’s Castle – has been tapped to host the 2013 Writers Guild Awards in February.
The Writers Guild of America, West announced Fillion, also the star of the long beloved defunct sci-fi western TV cult hit Firefly, as the ceremony’s host on Monday. The awards show will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Jw Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live.

Actor Nathan Fillion, who currently stars as mystery novelist Richard Castle on ABC’s hit series Castle, has been tapped by the Writers Guild of America, West to host its upcoming 2013 Writers Guild Awards show to be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the Jw Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live. “When I first accepted the honor of hosting the Writers Guild Awards, I was confused and actually thought I was receiving one. Since I play a writer on TV, I felt perhaps someone was under the impression I deserved an award and I wasn’t about to correct them. However, now I’m in the perfect position to present myself with whichever award I choose. Who’s going to know? At the very least, I can network with the most talented writers in the business in preparation for my next round of unemployment. It’s a win/win.” “We think...

Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak this awards season, with Simon Beaufoy winning the 2009 Writers Guild of America award this evening for adapted screenplay. Dustin Lance Black won the award for best original screenplay for Milk. Slumdog has already won DGA, SAG, PGA and Golden Globe awards, and is a multi-award favorite for the Oscars. Milk has won SAG and PGA awards and is also a strong Oscar contender in multiple categories.
On the television side, awards went to the writers of Mad Men (drama), 30 Rock (comedy), Recount and John Adams in long-form categories, and In Treatment, Breaking Bad, and The Simpsons in various other fields. Controversially, among other awards was one for videogame writing (to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed). Some publishers declined to submit their titles for consideration, viewing the award as primarily an organizing tool for a guild seeking to gain a foothold in a non-unionized sector.
