She published her autobiography, Résidente privilégiée (Privileged Resident) in 1980, in which she discusses her 16-year affair with Camus.
Daughter of Santiago Casares Quiroga, President (Prime Minister) of the
Spanish Republic in 1936.
She worked as a nurse during the Spanish Civil War. Exiled -- along with her father -- after the war, she studied at the Paris Conservatoire and subsequently made her name as a classical actress on the French stage.
Though she gave some excellent screen performances, she was known to prefer the stage.
