If you’re scratching your head over that last part of the headline: We’ve heard from various sources that The Hunger Games will in fact run for a tiring 142 minutes. Hey, if they’ve got a lot of story to tell…
Discounting this bizarre facet, the past week or so has found yours truly changing his tune on The Hunger Games, with there even being a small leap from “complete and total lack of interest” to “a smidge interest on account of good buzz.” Such minor feelings of affection are more or less sustained by Lionsgate’s new clip, in which Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) takes up a bow & arrow (in what others describe as a training process for the titular competition) and shows off some skills to the Capitol brass by way of an unlucky apple.

A brand new trailer has been released via Yahoo! Movies for the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross.
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Following the announcement that it would get a one-week run in IMAX, Lionsgate has a new, quick tease at The Hunger Games. The latest trailer for Gary Ross‘ adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ bestseller goes beyond just the set-up of the first one, showing Jennifer Lawrence getting in more treacherous situations and surroundings. I’m still not sold here, but some of the location design is appealing, including a futuristic train shot by what looks to be a dam. Fans should be pleased though and can see it below via Yahoo for the film also starring Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Wes Bentley and Elizabeth Banks.
The large ensemble cast also includes Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, Willow Shields, Paula Malcomson, Ian Nelson, Kalia Prescott, Ethan Jamieson, Tara Macken, Chris Mark, Jacqueline Emerson, Ashton Moio, Kara Petersen, Sam Ly, Leigha Hancock, Samuel Tan, Mackenzie Lintz, Imanol Yepez-Frias, Annie Thurman,...

Combining this latest poster and a new picture from EW, the anticipation for Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games has been at a fever pitch for what seems like forever now, and with the movie nearing its release date, Lionsgate is continuing to release more promotional materials. After a series of character posters — as well as one that was only uncovered after an internet scavanger hunt that many participated in — they have released the final poster, which showcases star Jennifer Lawrence brandishing Katniss’ trademark bow and arrow. Check it out below, courtesy of Moviefone (via FirstShowing):

The first theatrical trailer has been released for The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross.
“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Although persevering through hardship is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home.

With Harry Potter finished and Twilight nearly on its way out, studios are searching for the next tween franchise and The Hunger Games is looking to fit the bill. After a handful of photos, MTV finally premiered the first official teaser from Gary Ross‘ adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ bestseller. There's preparing for a performance, and then there's growing with a play from its reading stages through its first full production. As David Wiener's five-hander "Extraordinary Chambers" gets its world premiere staging—currently playing at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles—it reunites three of its actors from its various readings. François Chau, Kimiko Gelman, and Greg Watanabe, each with extensive theater and screen credits, play Cambodian characters visited by a Caucasian-American couple on a business trip—obviously with theatrical results. Pam MacKinnon directs. Back Stage: For these readings, did they ask you to come in with an accent and learn the correct pronunciation of the Khmer and the French dialogue?Greg Watanabe: Up to that point, there was nothing that was provided, like a dialect coach. [Kimiko and I] had done some research in Santa Ana [Calif.]. There's a Cambodian family center there. Someone there who is somewhat of a Cambodian-language expert helped.

The Hunger Games casting continues with the addition of Tim Taylor (Possum Walk, Archaic Redemption), who joins the already incredibly huge cast as the Gamekeeper in the story. The Gamekeeper is described as the computer techs that control the action during the games.

This may well be the end of Hunger Games casting news as President Snow, the last of the remaining major character roles to be filled, has been cast, and not as who you might expect. Yep, rather than any of our cast picks for the vile old man who smells of blood, THR has revealed Donald Sutherland has signed onto play the malevolent tyrant who fuels the fervor for the Hunger Games each year resulting in the brutal national televised murders of 23 adolescents. Personally, I’m saddened by this call but not because I don’t think Sutherland will play an effective and frightening Snow (he surely will), rather just because I love him most when he’s warm. (Pride & Prejudice anyone?) So while he seethes with rage at Katniss (X-Men: First Class’ Jennifer Lawrence) as she unintentionally fuels the fans of rebellion, just know I’ll be whimpering and missing Mr.

Lionsgate has announced that legendary actor Donald Sutherland has joined the cast of Gary Ross' new film The Hunger Games which is currently in production. Sutherland will play President Snow in the film, which is described by the studio as being the "autocratic ruler of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years at the outset of the story. With a snake-like appearance, he is cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics." Here's a more detailed description of the characters personality,
A cruel hard man, Snow is firm and strict, and not afraid to torture or kill people who displease him. He wants no one to stand in his way of ruling. He is also cunning as evidenced by his manipulation of Katniss during Catching Fire. In Mockingjay, he even admitted that he was not above killing children to Katniss. Despite all this, he does say that he is not wasteful.

When the project was first announced, The Hunger Games, a highly anticipated feature adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins' best-selling trilogy of novels, was adapted for the screen by Billy Ray (State of Play, Breach). However, today Lionsgate tweeted a change to the script credits saying, "The current draft of The Hunger Games script was not written by Billy Ray. It is a collaboration between Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins."
This isn't the first script for Ross, the film's director, as he also put pen to paper for such films as Pleasantville, Big and Seabiscuit. For Collins, she's done a little television work in the past, including the teleplay for 2001's Santa, Baby! and more recently five episodes of the Nick Jr. television show "Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!" which is a bit of a 180 when you consider the graphic nature of The Hunger Games.

Katniss Everdeen can now meet her public.
"The Hunger Games" cast just keeps growing with the addition of Kimiko Gelman and Nelson Ascencio as Venia and Flavius, according to Lionsgate's Twitter page.
Venia and Flavius are members of Katniss' prep team, which means they're responsible for how she looks in public. Following the news that Lenny Kravitz will be playing Katniss' personal stylist, Cinna, it's no surprise that these two image-conscious PR specialists were next to be cast.
Kimiko Gelman had a recurring role on "CSI: Miami" and appeared in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" and Albert Brooks' "Mother." Nelson Ascencio recently appeared in "Paul" and is probably most recognizable from "MadTV."
And there's a bit of bonus casting news! The role of the Avox (revealed in later books to be named "Lavinia"), a servant who had her tongue cut out as punishment for defiance, will be played by Amber Chaney.

The Hunger Games casting circus continues, but it has to stop at some point. They can't keep adding cast members to this movie forever... or can they? The movie stars a ton of new young actors, most of which are playing nameless kids who go out to hunt down and kill each other for TV entertainment.
The new additions to the cast includes:
Amber Chaney will play Lavinia. She worked as a Capitol servant for Katniss. avinia has dark red hair, striking features, and porcelain white skin. Being an Avox, her tongue was cut out and she is therefore mute. She is also subject to a lifetime of servitude to the Capitol. As an Avox, she is of Panem's lowest social class, even below those from the Seam.
Kimiko Gelman will play Venia. She worked in the prep team on Katniss Everdeen under the lead of the head stylist, Cinna played by Lenny Kravitz.

Fans of The Hunger Games might have shifted their attention to the production already underway in North Carolina and sneak photos of cast and crew but director Gary Ross continued to round out his cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, former Mad TV writer Nelson Ascencio and Kimiko Gelman joined the film as members of lead heroine Katniss’ prep team. Peter Jackson has confirmed via Facebook that Orlando Bloom is locked to return as Legolas in "The Hobbit". Here's his posting:
"Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older—and he doesn’t! I guess that's why he makes such a wonderful elf."
Meanwhile, Lionsgate has cast young unknown actress Amber Chaney in the role of the Avox girl in Lionsgate’s feature adaptation of "The Hunger Games".
In the book, an Avox is someone who has revelled against the Capitol and had their tongue cut out in punishment.
Also joining the cast this week are Kimiko Gelman ("CSI Miami") and Nelson Ascencio ("Mad TV") as Venia and Flavius respectively, two members of the...

I promise, this is almost over. The Hunger Games casting I mean. When Lionsgate started strategically releasing the cast members who were set to play nameless kids marched to their deaths [1] in a televised battle royal, we debated how to handle it. Eventually we settled on the fact that The Hunger Games is a massive property and it should all be covered. So, once we started, it's kind of our duty to see it through. Finally though, the slow trickle of names is nearing an end. The Hunger Games has begun shooting in North Carolina under the direction of Gary Ross and, in March of next year, we'll finally get to see Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson fight for their lives. I would bet we evensee a trailer of some sort at Comic Con. Only a few key roles have yet to be filled and three of them were just announced.

After getting a first glimpse of the Katniss’ prep team in The Capitol, they’ve rounded out the casting by adding Nelson Ascencio (MadTV) and Kimiko Gelman (CSI: Miami) as Flavius and Venia, respectively. They will be working under the direction Lenny Kravitz, recently cast as Katniss’ talented stylist.
Flavius is known for his orange corkscrew curls and purple lipstick. Venia is represented in the book as having gold tattoos above her eyes and aqua-colored hair. We can only hope the filmmakers adhere to the audacity of the Capitol styles and we get a good show on its release on March 23, 2012.
