Violent Night was one of this fan’s best moviegoing experiences from last year (read our review). The latest from filmmaker Tommy Wirkola is a gleeful, funny, brutal, and shockingly sweet modern take on a familiar formula. And it all works. The film includes David Harbour in a role tailor-made for him as a badass Santa Claus. Then there is John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo, Alexis Louder, and the terrific Leah Brady. The cast collected is perfection.
Harbour’s take on kick-ass Claus is a rollicking good time. One of the best moments in the bloody action flick is when Santa disposes of several members of an Extraction Team. It’s a viciously intense scene that features one of the most excellent weapons in any movie, a candy cane. And yes, that thing is sharp with some help from old St. Nick and his teeth. It’s a wild experience to...

"Bullet Train," directed by David Leitch and starring Brad Pitt, is hitting home video this week. In honor of the event, I got a chance to visit Leitch's 87North, the stunt studio he and producer Kelly McCormick recently started in Hollywood. The last time I was there, for the opening event, I got to watch some amazing stunt people kick all sorts of ass. This time, I got to do it myself. Okay, it's possible that I wasn't kicking ass as much as the actual stunt people, but it was an amazing look at the incredible amount of work that goes into films like this.
"Bullet Train" is based on the 2010 novel of the same name (called "Maria Beetle" outside the U.S. and U.K.) by Kōtarō Isaka. The film features Pitt as Ladybug, an assassin who is faced with a ton of other killers and agents on a...

87North, the production company behind such action films as “Nobody,” the John Wick series, “Atomic Blonde” and the upcoming “Bullet Train,” is unique in that it coaches stars such as Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt to perform their own fight scenes. Now, the company is paving the way for the next generation of stunt performers with a state-of-the-art training facility in the heart of Hollywood.
The new 87North location, a converted church on Sunset Boulevard with high beams and stained-glass windows, is a step up from the company’s 87Eleven facility near El Segundo. Former production manager turned producer Kelly McCormick says, “Inglewood is a long way, but people still made the pilgrimage down there.”
Headed by McCormick and husband David Leitch, a former stunt coordinator who now directs action films like “Bullet Train,” the Hollywood location will prove more accessible for actors and stunt performers — and is closer to Universal,...

Not too long ago, had someone mentioned the phrases Team Edward or Team Jacob, nobody would have had a clue what was being talked about. However, in the wake of the pop juggernaut that is The Twilight Saga -- especially the film versions -- fans of the series know exactly which team they are on, whether Edward’s, Robert Pattinson, or Jacob’s, Taylor Lautner. Taylor Daniel Lautner was born on February 11, 1992 in Holland, Michigan, to Daniel and Deborah Lautner. His ancestry includes Dutch, German, and French (also some distant Native American: Ottowa and Potawatomi). Raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan (along with a younger sister, Makena), Taylor showed a passion for karate at a very young age. At age 6, Taylor was training at Fabiano’s Karate School -- by age 7, he was winning tournaments. Seven-time world karate champion Mike Chat invited young Taylor to train with him, and by the...

Robert Pattinson get most of the attention in the media but Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob Black in the Twilight movies, has a devoted following of fans. Here’s a bit more about this young actor’s career so far:
Taylor Lautner Bio: Taylor Lautner (Jacob) got his big break in 2005 when, at the age of 13, he won the role of Shark Boy in Robert Rodriguez’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. Within months, he had successfully auditioned to play Eliot, the son of Steve Martin’s rival Jimmy Murtaugh, in the...
