"The cops may be able to trace us." "So what." Well Go USA has debuted another new official trailer for a Hong Kong action thriller film called I Did It May Way. That title seems to be an obvious reference to Frank Sinatra's classic song "My Way", though it isn't heard in the trailer or mentioned anywhere else, but it seems to connect with the bad guy's plot anyway. The film revolves around an undercover officer who goes up against the high-tech drug underworld of Hong Kong. Ho Sau, an undercover agent, has been working with Yau, a drug lord, for years, but his job and family are in trouble. The intense action thriller stars Andy Lau, Gordon Lam, Cya Liu, Eddie Peng, Kent Cheng, Philip Keung, with a special guest appearance by Simon Yam. This is an extraordinary violent trailer for what looks like an insanely violent Hk film - my goodness.

The prolific filmmaker Wong Jing directed and starred in “I Corrupt All Cops” (2009), a film about the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) by the Governor of Hong Kong to fight against corruption in the early 70s. Interestingly, the film's English initials clearly spelled out as Icac whereas its Chinese title means “Money Empire”. Twelfth years later, Wong, the master of remakes, was back with yet another spin on Icac this time with the help of four Hong Kong's finest actors. A sequel by name only with an interesting Chinese title, “Money Empire: Chasing Tiger, Capturing Dragon”.
In this new but fabricated crime drama yarn, we are back in British Hong Kong of the early 70s in which corruption and bribery rule big time under the watch of the greedy Chief Detective Chui Lok (Francis Ng) of the police force, who is in bed with local crime lord Wu Shi Hao,...

Ken Cheng — the writer behind comedy Easter Sunday — is reteaming with Amblin Partners on an original comedy called Princes. The feature pitch is described as a “cross-cultural buddy comedy.”
Amblin and Cheng previously worked together on Universal and Rideback’s Easter Sunday, which starred comedian Jo Koy as a man returning home to celebrate Easter with his overbearing family. The feature debuted theatrically in August and was from filmmaker Jay Chandrasekhar.
Upcoming for Cheng is The Great Chinese Art Heist, a Warner Bros. project based on a GQ magazine article of the same name. Condé Nast is set to produce and Jon M. Chu is attached to direct. He is also producing and writing a feature adaptation of the New York magazine article “Chateau Sucker” for Bound Entertainment.

The title “Carry on Hotel” to an Englishman like myself brings back memories of the classic film series of the same name. These “Carry On” films were full of toilet humour and sexual innuendos and were considered icons of the British Film Industry. Hong Kong cinema equally has a frequent confrontation with the idea of taste; again toilet humour and obsession with sex are frequent features. Having experienced both of these styles over the years it would be inevitable that my interest would be piqued. So with curiosity (and a certain amount of trepidation) I decided to sit down and watch this and see if it lived up (or down) to my expectations.

If there is one rule that consistently defines Hong Kong cinema it is that if one movie is a success, then there shall be a constant stream of rip-offs until the next big smash. So if you’ve seen one Hong Kong Vampire movie then chances are you’ve seen quite a few. Just occasionally though we get a pleasant surprise and someone decided to do something a little different with the formula. “Vampire’s Breakfast” is one such example. Whilst the title conjures up images of a Saturday morning cooking show for the undead, it is in fact a feature that deserves to be awoken from its coffin and rediscovered.
There is a vampire loose in Hong Kong. Reporter Piao (Kent Cheng) unwittingly becomes involved as several bodies are discovered and the witness that he finds (Kwan Chiu-chung), proves to be unreliable. Both now forced to prove themselves,...

Among the most morally repugnant and vile aspects of the exploitation genre in the 1970s was the Rape-Revenge genre, a subset of films focusing on the prolonged, torturous rape of a female protagonist before doling out equally prolonged and vicious vengeance on the perpetrating forces that carried it out. Spearheaded by the likes of films such as the US entries “The Last House on the Left,” “I Spit on Your Grave” and the Italian efforts “Last Stop on the Night Train” and “The Last House on the Beach” among others, the genre made its way to Hong Kong where Dennis Yu produced his take with this underseen but highly effective gem.

For many, Chow Yun Fat will always be the cool, two gun wielding action hero. Whilst that is the image he certainly had in the West, it was not necessarily what he always portrayed. In fact, a lot of his features were comedies that proved more successful at the local box office than his action roles. “Diary of a Big Man” lets him showcase this other side of his talents alongside two of Hong Kong’s finest leading ladies. With the comedy of that region being notoriously broad and prone to sexism that makes a Benny Hill episode look enlightened, then a movie about a bigamist could go either way!

Horror/comedies are notoriously difficult to get right. Too often the focus is on one or the other to the inevitable detriment of the overall feature. Shootouts and car chases are interrupted only by brief bouts of middling melodrama in “The White Storm 2: Drug Lords,” an in-name-only sequel to the 2013 hit about cops involved in the war on drugs. Vigorously directed by prolific veteran Herman Yau (“Shock Wave”) and well served by an all-star cast headed by Andy Lau and Louis Koo, this Hong Kong action-thriller isn’t deep but is certainly not dull. Mainland audiences have gone wild for “Drug Lords,” with 1.8 million admissions and a $105 million gross in 7 days since its July 5 release, which suggests the potential for relatively strong returns in the U.S., U.K. and other territories as well. Hong Kong release is set for July 16.

Donnie Yen and Andy Lau are the embodiment of brotherhood in Well Go USA’s Chasing The Dragon. They practically ruled the streets of 1974 Hong Kong as two of the most infamous outlaws on record. Both Donnie and Andy Lau give fiery performances that surely equaled the passion and zest of their real-life counterparts. Chasing the Dragon is based on a true story, which is even more thrilling and scary. The Blue-Ray combo will drop on January 23rd. You’ll definitely need to cop that because watching it once will not be enough.
If you are a fan of Scarface, arguably the most iconic gangsta movie ever, this movie is for you. That’s basically what this story is like, except in China. Donnie Yen stimulates the senses as China’s real-life drug lord, Cripple Ho. Cripple Ho is merciless and cold-blooded but with a deeply ingrained sense of loyalty.

Ip Man 2, from Cine Asia, is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip and Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.
This sequel continues on from events in the first Ip Man film, and covers Ip Man’s life in Hong Kong, which was at the time under British colonial rule, and recovering from the Japanese invasion of China. Ip Man’s main hurdles are his reduced circumstances, British oppression, and rivalry from other martial arts practitioners, including the local Hung Ga master Hung Chun-nam, as played by Sammo Hung.

Many big screen biographies are often accused of taking…liberties…with the facts, often to help the finished film’s pacing. After all, unless it’s a TV mini-series, it’s difficult to compress a remarkable life into an evening at the movies. Film makers will frequently switch the order of events along with the popular practice of using composite characters (a little bit of this fella’, and a bit of this old pal, and…), even inventing supporting roles, or tagging real folks with invented names. And then there are fantasy tales using a real person (and elements of his life) as the story’s heroic center. In Hollywood famous true Western outlaws like Billy the Kid and Jesse James were the leads in many fictional flicks (hey, those two “met” Dracula and Frankenstein’s daughter!). Those on the opposite side of the law like Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson...

This time he comes face to face, literally, with "Iron" Mike Tyson for a fight. There isn't any dialogue in this teaser, but there is a whole crapload of kick ass action teases. The cast includes Patrick Tam, Lynn Hung, Kent Cheng and Kwok-Kwan Chan. This is worth a watch just to get a glimpse at some of the amazing martial arts action in this! If you're already a fan of this series, don't miss out on more. Here's the first official Us teaser trailer for Wilson Yip's Ip Man 3, direct from...

What we lack more and more these days are epic fight scenes in the final part of kung Fu/Martial Art movies. We have seen less and less one on one fight scenes in the final battle over the past 15-20 years, which is a shame but we have seen recently a few flicks bringing that winning formula back.
I want to name a few of my favorite end fight scenes and please feel free to comment below, your favorite fight scenes and maybe they will be added to the future features.

I thought it was about time i did a post on the great vampire buster of all time, yes you got it, lam Ching Ying. This will be listing all the movies and tv series where Lam Ching Ying either stars in or takes on the hopping vampires and evil spirits.
His roles in the Mr.Vampire movies show his skills as an actor, with great comic timing which goes well with his serious acting side, which we normally get to see on screen. This role would make him, not just a big star in Asia but also worldwide as the master of Vampire killers.
Other great movies which he starred in (But not in a vampire movie) were the likes of The Prodigal Son, School On Fire, Eastern Condors, The Magnificent Butcher and Painted Faces.
I have been a big fan of these movies since i first watched Mr.

“Sleepwalker” is the latest solo effort from Oxide Pang, one half of the twin brother directorial duo still best known for their hit 2002 ghost story “The Eye”. The film sees him reteaming with that film’s leading lady, his wife Angelica Lee, this time in a plot dealing with kidnapped children and the always creepy subject of sleepwalking. The film also stars Charlie Young, working for the director again after the ill-advised “Bangkok Dangerous” remake in 2008, along with Huo Siyan (“My Name is Fame”) and Li Zonghan (“Reign of Assassins”), plus Hong Kong character actor favourite Kent Cheng (who memorably starred in a long string of 1980s and 90s classics such as “Run and Kill”, “Dr Lamb”, “Sex and Zen”, and countless others). Angelica Lee plays clothes maker Ziyi, an unfortunate woman plagued by a disturbing recurring dream about a forest where she suspects a body is buried, which finds...

By most accounts Hong Kong horror-meister Oxide Pang’s latest fright flick Sleepwalker marks a welcome return to form, and has the added bonus of featuring actress Angelica Lee in a movie that explores the origin of nightmares. Co-starring Charlie Young (Bangkok Dangerous), Huo Siyan (My Name is Fame), Li Zonghan (Reign of Assassins), and Kent Cheng (The Log), the stunning mystery thriller was screened in competition at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. Good to the Pang boys back! Sleepwalker streets on DVD Dec 21. Synopsis: Ziyi (Angelica Lee) has been haunted by the same dream for years: In the dream, she would stand alone on a wasteland, knowing that something is buried underneath. The only one who could give her comfort is her designer friend Eric (Li Zonghan), to whom she would reveal her weird dreams. She is approached by police sergeant Madam Ou (Huo Siyan) to assist in...

IP Man 2
Stars: Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung, Darren Shahlavi, Huang Xiaming | Action direction by Sammo Hung | Directed by Wilson Yip
Ip Man 2 is the latest DVD release from Cine Asia, and is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip & Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.

Oxide Pang does not stop. Having just finished the neo-noir thriller The Detective II (which is currently in post production) and has now started production on Sleepwalker in 3D, his second foray into 3-D film making.
Sleepwalker follows the twin stories of a woman tortured by mysterious dreams and a policewoman with an unsolved murder case. It stars Lee Sinje, Charlie Young, Kent Cheng, Li Zong Han and Huo Si Yan.
Oxide’s first 3-D movie was The Child’s Eye, which he co-directed with his brother Danny and which will get it’s U.S. premiere at the American Film Market this month.
Working solo, Danny Pang is currently filming Fairy Tale Killer, a cop thriller which stars Lau Ching-wan, Wang Baoqiang and Elanne Kwong.

“Ip Man 2” sees Donnie Yen reprising his role as the Wing Chun master and all round defender of the Chinese nation, continuing the story of the great man’s life as he heads to Hong Kong following the end of the Sino-Japanese War. Director Wilson Yip and producer Raymond Wong also return, as do cast members Lynn Xiong, Fan Siu Wong, and even Simon Yam. Perhaps more excitingly, the legendary Sammo Hung lends his talents to the film, both as action director and in a starring role, offering the chance to see him going head to head with Yen as they did to exhilarating effect in “Spl”. He is joined by a number of other new stars, including Huang Xiao Ming (“The Message”) and veteran character actor Kent Cheng (who also recently featured with Yen in Wilson Yip’s excellent “Flash Point”). Unsurprisingly, the film was a massive box office hit,...

This is the third film review in the coverage of Montreal's Fantasia Film Festival. While the first film, which took place during the Japanese occupation of China during World War II, was a fairly good blockbuster, the expectations for the second film were really high. Unfortunately, despite a few problems, Ip Man 2 has its charms.
After 1949, the Chinese communists take over mainland China. This is why Ip Man, an expert in Wing Chun, leaves the town of Foshan with his family and settles in Hong Kong, which was under British colonial rule. In order to support his family, Ip Man decides to teach Wing Chun. However, despite having a few students, Ip Man is almost unknown in Hong Kong. Furthermore, master Hung Jan Nam, an expert in Hung Ga and the head of an association of martial arts masters, wants Ip Man to pay a monthly protection fee of $100 in order to teach.

The ability to appreciate Donnie Yen punching people really, really fast in the face is what makes life worth living, if you ask me. Yen does just that in “Ip Man 2″, which co-stars Sammo Hung, who also acts as the film’s action choreographer. New shiny poster for the film due out later this month in Hong Kong below. A sequel to the successful “Ip Man” starring Donnie Yen, “Ip Man 2″ follows Ip Man (Yen) as he immigrates to Hong Kong in 1949 after the struggles against the Japanese in the first film. In Hong Kong, Ip Man attempts to propagate his discipline of Wing Chun martial arts to the world, but is hampered by jealous martial arts rivals and the oppressive British. Starring Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung Kam-Bo, Darren Shahlavi, Siu-Wong Fan, Lynn Hung, Ka Tung Lam, Xiaoming Huang, Kent Cheng, Yu-Hang To , Amber Chia, Stefan Morawietz, and directed by Wilson Yip.

Can’t get enough Donnie Yen punching people really, really fast in the face? You’re in luck. There are two behind-the-scenes “production diaries” on Yen’s upcoming “Ip Man 2″ (via Kung Fu Cinema) to dig your teeth into. The martial arts film will co-star Sammo Hung, who also does double duty as action choreographer. From the looks of these two diaries, they should probably give Hung a co-director’s credit, since he probably does just as much work directing the thing as credited director Wilson Yip. Starring Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung Kam-Bo, Darren Shahlavi, Siu-Wong Fan, Lynn Hung, Ka Tung Lam, Xiaoming Huang, Kent Cheng, Yu-Hang To , Amber Chia, Stefan Morawietz, and directed by Wilson Yip. Ip Man punches away in the Summer. Get more images and videos at our “Ip Man 2″ preview page.
