"This dragon... how exquisite." Well Go USA has released the official US trailer for a martial arts action movie titled The Invincible Dragon, which originally opened in theaters in China last year. Martial arts superstar Max Zhang plays Kowloon, an eccentric police inspector renowned for his dragon tattoos and, legend has it, his childhood encounter with a nine-headed dragon. "A marvelous detective whose career is blighted by his impulsively violent behavior towards criminals, Kowloon is soon demoted and sent to work in a remote police station." After a series of murders of Hong Kong policewomen, Kowloon is invited back to crack the case – only to lose track of his colleague and fiancée in mysterious circumstances. It's described as "a darkly comic police thriller wrapped around a serial killer mystery, punctuated by a cheeky voice-over narration that adds a touch of the fairy tale to the gritty proceedings." Also stars Anderson Silva,...

Ever since his fight against Ip Man, former martial arts master Cheung Tin Chi (Max Zhang) lives a quiet life with his son owning a small grocery store. However, as he defends a girl against the gang of Tso Sai Kit (Kevin Cheng) this life is no longer an option for him and his son, as they are now in the middle of an internal fight of a Chinese crime syndicate for power over the city. Led by Tso Ngan Kwan (Michelle Yeoh), the majority of the triads aim to become legalized while a small fraction led by her brother Tso Sai Kit aims to strike deals with the British invaders, securing wider control and profit for them.
When this alliance threatens their lives and the local community, Cheung Tin has to use his skills to defend his friends. However, as he will soon find out, the enemy is much...

The cinematic odyssey of Ip Man — the real-life master of Wing Chun and, famously, instructor of Bruce Lee — continues with “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy.” But don’t expect Donnie Yen to show up in this installment and don’t expect much in the way of historical fealty, narrative plausibility or serious examinations about human dignity or the ethics of kung fu.
Expect, instead, a spin-off about Ip Man’s rival from “Ip Man 3,” Cheung Tin Chi. After his secret defeat at the hands of Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi became a mercenary — so briefly that it barely impacts the story. After retiring, he sets up a tiny grocery and tries to raise his son in peace, but a chance encounter with opium dealers leads to one giant fight sequence after another.
The story of “Master Z” is frustratingly muddled, and Cheung Tin Chi has very little to do with it.

Top-class fighting and fabulous production design overcome the stale plot of “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy,” a 1960s-set spin-off from the hit trilogy about the legendary Wing Chun master who trained Bruce Lee. With Max Zhang stepping capably into the spotlight as a former Ip Man challenger who wants to live peacefully but can’t avoid trouble, “Master Z” is professionally executed by veteran action director-choreographer Yuen Woo-ping (“Kill Bill”) and given a star-power lift by the casting of Michelle Yeoh and “Guardians of the Galaxy” team member Dave Bautista in villain roles. This expansion of the Ip Man Universe performed credibly in China and Hong Kong in early 2019 and has the required combination of grunt and gloss to repeat the feat when it opens April 12 on U.S. screens.
Since 2008, no fewer than seven Ip Man-related features have been released, including Wong Kar-wai’s “The Grandmaster” (2013). Following hot on...

"I thought I could put martial arts behind me. But deep down... I know I never could do that." Well Go USA has released an official trailer for a badass martial arts movie titled Master Z: Ip Man Legacy, another new story set in the (seemingly never-ending) Ip Man universe. This time, while keeping a low profile after his defeat from Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi gets into trouble after getting into a fight with a powerful foreigner. Max Zhang (aka Jin Zhang) stars as Cheung, with an awesome supporting cast including Dave Bautista, Michelle Yeoh, Tony Jaa, Chrissie Chau, Kevin Cheng, and Yan Liu. Best of all, this is directed by the martial arts master Yuen Woo-Ping, who has been directing films for years bringing us some of the finest martial arts action ever seen on screen. Of course this looks totally badass, and much better than that other...

Director: Herman Yau. Review: Adam Wing. Underrated Hong Kong director Herman Yau (The Legend is Born: Ip Man) takes to period kung fu for his biopic about late-Qing revolutionary Qiu Jin, who in case you didn’t know, was pivotal in bringing about the downfall of the imperial regime in China. Crystal Huang brings The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake to life, supported on her journey by a star-studded cast including Anthony Wong, Kevin Cheng and Lam Suet. The truth is in there somewhere, that goes without saying, but a sweeping action epic wouldn’t be much fun without spectacular battle sequences orchestrated by veteran action director Leung Siu Hung (Ip Man). Two timelines run side by side in Herman Yau’s inspired (and inspiring) offering, with the first one depicting Qui Jin’s arrest, trial and eventual demise. The other timeline - which is afforded most of the running...
