After a seven-year break, FX’s anthology series “Feud” is back with another installment of rivalry and gossip titled “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” telling the story of Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) and a high society New York City socialite group known as The Swans, which includes Babe Paley (Naomi Watts), Slim Keith (Diane Lane), C.Z. Guest (Chloë Sevigny), Lee Radziwill (Calista Flockhart), Ann Woodward (Demi Moore) and Joanne Carson (Molly Ringwald). The previous season of the Ryan Murphy docudrama that starred Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis nabbed 18 Emmy Award nominations and two wins. Let’s look back at their haul to see how it may impact this current season at the 2024 Emmys.

Two skiers are suspended in space and time as the frozen winterscape of the Yukon Territory awakens their souls. This is the premise for filmmaker Cameron Thuman’s unique short Suspended in Time which blends narrative and documentary to tell a story of two individuals and the majesty of the environment they find themselves in. Thuman captures his skiers through dynamic aerial photography that is exhilarating one moment, then still and meditative the next. It really is a celebration of a stunning landscape through the eyes of those experiencing it in the most adventurous way possible. We’re delighted to be sharing Suspended in Space with Dn’s audience today in conjunction with a conversation with Thuman who breaks down the unorthodox approach of making his short, the rendering of the film’s haunting blue palette, and the blending of soaring aerial photography with moments of character-driven interiority.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who has been overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden, has been appointed to the post of special counsel, a move intended to give him a new level of independence from the Justice Department.
Attorney General Merrick Garland made the announcement on Friday, amid Republican claims that the investigation of the president’s son had been treated differently and that a proposed plea deal was too lenient.
Weiss, a Donald Trump appointee to the post of top federal prosecutor in Delaware, has supervised the case since 2018, and remained in his position after Biden took office.
Last month, the proposed plea deal unraveled in a Delaware federal court. Biden was to plea guilty to two counts of failure to pay federal income tax, and to enter a diversion program that would resolve a potential gun charge. At one point during the hearing, prosecutors had insisted that the investigation was ongoing,...

Chris Clark’s Sus Dog tries on a number of stylistic tics—from stuttering electronics to eerie vocals—that recall those of its executive producer, Thom Yorke, but rarely finds a means of organically incorporating them into the Idm veteran’s bass-heavy sound. The zippy “Town Crank” and sulky title track struggle to employ Clark’s limited voice effectively, proving to be little more than imitations of Yorke’s saturnine shtick on albums like Anima.
“Alyosha” starts things off promisingly, with Clark’s hazy atmospherics and vocal warbling setting an alien tone. But he quickly switches to falsetto just as the track begins to pick up steam, and his wispy vocals and repeated mantras about how someone is “lying” to themselves while “telling everybody else the truth” clash with the track’s rhythmically darting instrumentation. Elsewhere, “Forest” starts off with a vast, contemplative soundscape courtesy of the Budapest Art Orchestra,...

Jon Anderson started Yes in 1968 with bassist Chris Squire, and the prog rock band was at the center of his life for the next four decades through numerous permutations. But when illness forced him off the road after the group’s 2004 tour, Yes decided to hire a replacement vocalist and carry on without him. Anderson has been healthy and active for well over a decade, but the band — which now features Seventies guitarist Steve Howe, Drama-era keyboardist Geoff Downes, and hired guns — refuses to take him back.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t yet watched the final episode of “Man vs Bee.”
It was three years ago that director David Kerr unexpectedly got a call from an old producer colleague, Chris Clark, with whom he’d worked on 2018’s “Johnny English” sequel “Johnny English Strikes Again.” Clark had been developing an idea with “Johnny English” and “Mr Bean” star Rowan Atkinson and wondered if Kerr would be interested in helming the project.
“It was a really simple premise,” Kerr tells Variety. “You’ve got this man in a fancy house full of priceless artwork, with a tiny antagonist. But I can immediately see that it was potentially a wonderful vehicle for Rowan, and for his unique talent.”
The next step was to convene with Atkinson, one of Britain’s most famous and reclusive comedians, in his garden (thanks to Covid-19 restrictions) to discuss Atkinson’s character,...

The Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild got a jump on the Oscars by announcing nominations on February 18. But don’t look for four-time contender “Bill & Ted Face the Music” or three-timer “Mulan” on the list of Oscar nominees for Best Makeup and Hairstyling when that roster is revealed on March 15. They didn’t make the cut with the academy in phase 1 of voting.
Of the 10 films that remain in the running at the Oscars, “Hillbilly Elegy” reaped three bids with the guild; “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Mank” earned two apiece; and “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey” and “Pinocchio” have one each.
The other four films shortlisted by the makeup artists and hair stylists branch of the academy — “Emma,” “The Glorias,”
“The Little Things” and “One Night in Miami” — were snubbed by the guild.

Bliss Media has announced that Boyd Holbrook will star in Argentine director Juan Cabral’s Two/One.
Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales in Cannes, while Bliss Media fully financed the film and is handling Chinese distribution rights. CAA arranged financing and represents North American rights.
Two/One centres on Kaden, a world-class ski jumper in Whistler, Canada, who is unexpectedly presented with the chance of reconnecting with his teenage sweetheart. Khai is a corporate executive in Shanghai whose fantasy girl has just started working in his office.
The two men go about their lives, without knowing that they are connected. When one is awake, the other is asleep. They are, in some strange way, the same person. The question is what happens if they were ever to meet.

Littered with an international cast comprised of Theo James, Stephanie Sigman, Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña, Tessa Thompson and Caleb Landry Jones, while John Michael McDonagh doesn’t make it three for three with the notably absent Brendan Gleeson, this might count as his third trip to Park City. The festival has been a good luck charm for this filmmaker of Irish decent as both his debut, and sophomore films have played passionately well with critics and auds alike. With rich moral complex and comedic contributions in Irish cinema (2011’s The Guard and 2014’s Calvary), the English-born filmmaker changed sceneries, bringing this crime comedy across the pond for a shoot Stateside. War On Everyone shot in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past April.

There was initially a lot of promise for writer turned director Brian Helgeland’s career, his directorial debut was the entertaining 1999 adaptation of the Donald E. Westlake (aka Richard Stark) novel The Hunter, which was titled Payback for his version. Following that up with a pair of Heath Ledger titles, A Knight’s Tale and the doomed The Order, we didn’t see Helgeland get in the director’s seat again until 2013 with 42. He’s sticking with based on true story stuff with this resurrection of the notorious Kray Bros., the subject of an enjoyable Peter Medak film from 1990, The Krays. Here, we have Tom Hardy playing the twin gangsters, one of the few performers that can supersede the shortcomings of Helgeland and co-star Emily Browning to nab a slot on our list (we’re also curious as to the absence of Violet Kray,...
