Okay, this seriously floored me. Senior Animatronics Technician Chris Clarke posted a short, simple, but incredibly impressive video on his Facebook page showing us all what appears to be War Horse's titular 'Joey', except this Joey is being operated by a puppeteer! Spielberg's old-fashioned tear-jerker used CGI in a minimalistic way throughout its run-time, but it's these old school pieces of animatronic craft that were used for some of the film's most incredible sequences. Debate has gone on for months over whether or not Andy Serkis should be nominated for an Oscar [1] for his work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The issue at hand isn't the work done by Serkis, which is clearly strong. It is the fact that he did that work on set but isn't actually seen in the film, as his physical presence is painted out and replaced with the all-cgi ape Caesar. The problem, inasmuch as there is one, is that some people have a difficult time seeing through that wash of pixels to understand the work that Serkis did for the film. But a new clip shows a full scene as captured by cameras on set, with Serkis performing as Caesar, and then presents the same scene with his CG alter-ego in place. British comedy legend Rowan Atkinson was in Sydney on the weekend . with his entourage of cast and crew . for the world premiere of his latest film Johnny English Reborn. Hundreds of fans packed the area outside the Hoyts complex at Sydney's Entertainment Quarter, hoping to get up-close-and-personal to the stars. Cinema St. Louis, our city’s non-profit cinema-related event planning group, will presenting its 11th annual St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase which begins this Saturday, August 13th at the Tivoli Theater (and ends with a party on the 18th at Blueberry Hill). The showcase, sponsored by Stella Artois Beer, is a chance for St. Louis-based filmmakers to show off their art. All of these films were written, directed, edited or produced by St. Louis natives or those with strong local ties. The 16 film programs that screen at the Tivoli from Aug. 14-18 serve as St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase.s centerpiece. The programs range from full-length fiction features and documentaries to multi-film compilations of fiction and documentary shorts. Many programs include post-screening Q&As with filmmakers.
