Joshua Colwell has a Ph.D. in Astrophysical, Planetary, and Atmospheric
Sciences from the University of Colorado (Boulder) where he was a
Research Scientist when asked to provide technical advice to the
filmmakers of
Deep Impact (1998) on
the comet and on the effects of the impact of a comet into the ocean.
He was given the part of CAPCOM in the movie. His brother,
_K.C. Colwell_ is an Assistant Director. In
2006 he moved from Colorado to the University of Central Florida as a
professor in the Department of Physics where he teaches and studies the
origin and evolution of the solar system and carries out research in
microgravity environments such as parabolic airplane flights and
suborbital rockets. He is married to Anne-Marie Colwell, and they have
one daughter, _Aylia Caulwell_, who studied
theater at Occidental College.
