Former President Donald Trump supporters in the House of Representatives are pushing a bill to rename Dulles Airport outside of Washington, D.C., after the former president.
On April 2, a group of Trump supporters launched the effort to rename this airport to express admiration for the Republican 2024 presidential candidate.
The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, the secretary of state in the 1950s and during Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidency.
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pennsylvania), the Republican Party’s chief deputy whip in the House, stated that he was introducing legislation to change the name of the airport since Trump was “the best president of” his “lifetime.”
“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” Reschenthaler stated.
“Freedom,” he wrote in an X post on April 2. “Prosperity.

Update, 11:57 a.m. Pt: The Republican leadership chaos continues, as a plan to designate a temporary speaker has been sidelined and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-oh) made plans for another floor vote.
Jordan, who has failed in two votes to become speaker, earlier today embraced a plan in which a resolution would be offered so that the current speaker pro tem, Patrick McHenry, would get additional powers through January. Jordan would have still been in the speaker race, but it would have given him more time to win over holdouts, which numbered 22 on Wednesday.
But in the closed door Republican conference meeting, there was a revolt among some members, particularly those on the far right, who viewed it as a coalition plan that would give additional power to Democrats.
After the temporary speaker plan was presented, “We decided that wasn’t where we were going to go,” Jordan told reporters.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) claims he has testimony from “dozens” of whistleblowers who’ve provided him with proof that the FBI is unfairly persecuting conservatives. This doesn’t actually seem to be the case.
The first three of these witnesses whose testimony Jordan received were not really “whistleblowers,” but disaffected former FBI employees receiving financial backing from former President Trump’s ally and advisor Kash Patel. None of them have been given whistleblower protection status by the Department of Justice.

Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, announced on Twitter that someone attacked two members of his staff with a baseball bat. Connolly wrote that the assailant, who is now in police custody, entered his district office on Monday asking for him before committing the act of violence.
“Right now, our focus is on ensuring they are receiving the care they need,” he added of the staff members who were attacked before being transferred to a hospital.

As part of a larger Republican-led congressional investigation into President Joe Biden’s administration and family, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee questioned former Twitter executives during a hearing Wednesday about Twitter’s role in temporarily suppressing an October 2020 New York Post story regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop.
The Republicans allege that Twitter’s decision to block the story, weeks before the 2020 election, was an attempt to protect Biden from damaging materials that could have swayed the election in favor of then-President Donald Trump.
While acknowledging that their handling of the story was a “mistake,” the former Twitter executives denied any involvement of government officials and explained that because the Post’s tweeted images “looked like they may have been obtained through hacking,” their temporary block was consistent with a policy they had developed in 2018 in an attempt to “prevent Twitter from becoming a dumping ground for hacked materials.”

The first full blown House Oversight Committee hearing of the new GOP majority was focused on Hunter Biden, and the role that Twitter played in suppressing a bombshell New York Post story about the contents of a laptop purportedly owned by the president’s son.
Weeks before the presidential election, Twitter restricted the Post account in an effort to curb the spread of the article, declaring it potentially “harmful material” and in violation of a hacked materials policy. After an outcry, particularly on the right, the accounts were restored, and Twitter executives later admitted that the company’s actions were wrong.
The premise of Wednesday’s hearing was that Twitter colluded with the FBI to suppress the story and tip the scales for Joe Biden in the presidential election.
The hearing included testimony from four former Twitter executives, who said that they were not engaged in a conspiracy to sideline the story.

When the White House called up Twitter in the early morning hours of September 9, 2019, officials had what they believed was a serious issue to report: Famous model Chrissy Teigen had just called President Donald Trump “a pussy ass bitch” on Twitter — and the White House wanted the tweet to come down.
That exchange — revealed during Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on Twitter by Rep. Gerry Connolly — and others like it are nowhere to be found in Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” releases, which have focused almost exclusively on requests...

The GOP has long prided itself as the party of fiscal responsibility, but it’s important to keep one thing in mind as conservative lawmakers continue to scold Democrats over the cost of Biden’s infrastructure plan: They’re completely full of shit.
There are countless glaring examples of the party’s hypocrisy on the money front, from the war in Iraq to Trump’s 2017 tax cut for the wealthy and corporations. The past week has provided another concise example of how Republicans only care about cutting back on spending...

Update, 11:44 Am Pt: Donald Trump urged protesters at the Capitol to “stay peaceful,” but he did not instruct them to disperse from the complex, where his supporters have breached the barricades and have been wandering through some of the halls near House and Senate chambers.
“Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!” Trump tweeted.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump, speaking to a rally at the Ellipse, urged his backers to march to the Capitol as a joint session of Congress to count the electoral votes. Protesters breached barricades, forcing a lockdown through the complex. Vice President Mike Pence, who is presiding, reportedly has been evacuated.
Capitol Police had prepared for the expected demonstrators but were overwhelmed by the protesters.
The situation in the Capitol was bedlam. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-va) wrote on Twitter, “We’ve been given gas masks on the House floor.

Days after blaming former President Obama for Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, President Trump is reportedly considering blocking $250 in military aid intended for the nation that has for years been the target of Russian military aggression.

Vice President Mike Pence, accompanied by Republican senators including Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-sc), visited two detention facilities near the U.S.-Mexico border where migrants were being held on Friday. Pence visited one center in Donna, Tex. where men were being held in addition to a McAllen facility where children were detained.
The account from pool reporter Josh Dawsey of the Washington Post, who accompanied Pence into the facility in Donna, is chilling:

After losing his legs fighting with his Marine Corps unit in Afghanistan in 2010, Paul was put on a steady regimen of OxyContin, a potent, highly addictive and, back then, heavily prescribed opiate. After years of intense rehab — as soon as he was physically, mentally and emotionally strong enough — he weaned himself off a daily pharmaceutical cocktail (which also included Ambien, Methadone, Seroquel, etc.) in part by replacing those concentrated chemical compounds with consuming marijuana four to five times a week.
