I hate writing about this. I hate having to write about this so frequently. But this is the world we live in.
As my ol’ pal Martha Thomases wrote a couple days ago, I tend to have a thing about free speech. I’m an absolutist. In my fevered brain, I figure we don’t have free speech unless it’s complete and it covers everything, in all forms of expression. Some people put limitations on what will be tolerated and they put restrictions on what can be said and where things can be said. Even if I were the one making those decisions – an amusing concept – that is not free speech. As I keep on saying, I would not remove Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf from the libraries, although I would use the book to teach high schoolers the cause and effect of hate speech.
This does not absolve the speaker (writer,...

It's been five years since Charlie Clements left EastEnders behind, with his character Bradley Branning falling to his death from the roof of the Queen Vic. Since then, he's kept busy with stage and screen work - and in October 2014, graduated with a Masters from Rada.
Returning to television, Clements appears in a new episode of Canadian crime drama Murdoch Mysteries, set in Toronto at the turn of the 20th century. His character Charlie Brackenreid is a copper with a dark secret - and is also the nephew of series regular Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig).
Digital Spy caught up with Charlie to talk his latest role, his action ambitions and leaving EastEnders behind.
How did this part in Murdoch Mysteries come your way?

Bone: Out from Boneville Tribute Edition
By Jeff Smith
192 ages, Scholastic Graphix, $14.95
Bone is a phenomenon that just keeps growing, it seems. Jeff Smith’s self-published debuted in 1991 and charmed readers who discovered the black and white fantasy. However, he found a brand new audience when Scholastic added the series, in color for the first time, to their Graphix imprint. There now are the nine volumes, Rose (with art by Charles Vess), Tall Tales, Bone Handbook and three illustrated prose novels from Tom Sniegoski.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this incredibly successful partnership, Scholastic is releasing next week a hardcover Tribute Edition of volume one. The complete, still-charming is on hand but there is also additional material. We start with the 10-page poem “An Ode to Quiche”, written by and critiqued by the monsters who plague the fellow from Boneville. There are nine pinups culled from the other...

Taking a trip back in time to the 1970s, Suki Waterhouse is stunning on the front of the February 2015 issue of Vogue Turkey.
The gorgeous English model is a vintage vixen in a black tube top with a light wash denim and fur jacket as she works her mojo for photographer Tom Craig.
Previously, Suki shared some wonderful beauty tips, like how to prep your face before going near cosmetics- "Ice your face to close your pores before putting make-up on! I can’t remember who taught it to me, but it’s the best tip I’ve ever had.” She continued, “I always use HealGel - it gets rid of any blemishes or uneven skin tone. Eddie Redmayne certainly looks ready for the Academy Awards here. But the British thesp, who is already an Oscar frontrunner for his multifaceted performance as physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, says that the recognition has been nice—but that certainly wasn't the point of taking on such a demanding role. "Please don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful compliment," said Redmayne, styled by Dan May and looking all sorts of dapper in photos by Tom Craig for the U.K.-based mag Mr. Porter. "I just hope it serves to get the story out to more people." The wheelchair-bound Hawking, who famously communicates via voice machine, was diagnosed with a delibilitating...

At the very least, the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann.s The Great Gatsby is going to sizzle. We clarified earlier that artist and mogul Jay-z would serve as executive producer for Luhrmann.s soundtrack, which also would feature score compositions from Craig Thompson and Anton Monsted. It makes sense, then, that Jay-z.s wife Beyonce would contribute a track for the soundtrack, which will accompany the film in May. E! Online reports that Beyonce and Outkast's Andre 3000 will collaborate on a cover of Amy Winehouse.s jaunty, lounge-club single "Back to Black," delivering what a source for Interscope Records calls a .very different take. on the late singer.s song. The Gatsby soundtrack is shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Early reports claim that Lady Gaga and Prince were contributing tracks for the album. Adding Beyonce and Andre 3000 ups the album.s already substantial street cred. Considering the fact...

Murdoch Mysteries is one of the best gems to come out of Canadian television in quite a while, and the fourth season is now available on Blu-Ray. Whether you’re a fan already, or new to the show, I have a great giveaway to go along with this release. The first season and the fourth season on Blu-Ray.
The show takes place in Toronto in 1895, and features William Murdoch as a detective/scientist who is keen on incorporating the latest techniques (including the “finger marks” he is so fond of) into his investigations.
Season 4 kicks off with Murdoch butting heads with the new pathologist who has taken Dr. Ogden’s place. A body has been dismembered, and Murdoch has to find some answers using only a couple of pieces of a body which have been encased in cement. It starts off the season well, and gives us the opportunity to miss Dr.

Monroe. Acorn Media DVD
Hot on the heels of the release of the critically acclaimed Time Team DVD, the good folks at Acorn Media have unearthed some more gems to close out the month of May. On 29 May, British TV fans stateside can get their hands on ITV’s medical drama Monroe. The title character is a neurosurgeon who is kind of like Sherlock Holmes in scrubs. Brilliantly clever, sharp tongued, intolerant of fools but someone who is ultimately concerned with making a meaningful and positive contribution to society.
Norther Irish actor James Nesbitt takes on the role of Monroe. American viewers may remember him as the lead man in the BBC America drama Jekyll. In the UK he is perhaps even better known for his starring role in the Iraq war drama Occupation. Nesbitt is ideally suited to this role. He is charismatic in a quirky sort of way...
