“I can't deny the fact that you like me. Right now, you like me.” Sally Field 1985 Few festival awards are as meaningful to the creative team behind a film as the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. You made something that resonated with the audience more than any other film. You did not appease the taste of a handful of jury members but of an entire theatre full of movie-goers. The made-in-Florida LGBTQ glam horror musical Big Easy Queens made a big splash at Popcorn Frights and when the dust settled that audience graced Erynn Dalton's flck with the award. Congrats to all involved in the movie. After Mob Queen of the Quarter Minnie Bouvèé has arch-nemesis Poodles Makenzie’s crew brutally...

Miss Minnie Bouvèé (Eric Swanson) is no stranger to death, but as New Orleans’ Mob Queen of the Quarter, usually she’s the one wielding the Grim Reaper’s scythe instead of being on the receiving end of its unforgiving blade. With a sinister masked admirer leaving ominous reminders of a dark moment from Minnie’s past, however, she can’t seem to get out of death’s shadow lately, especially with rival mob boss Poodles Makenzie (Jennifer McClain) seeking revenge for a recent lethal hit on her crew. And if that weren’t enough to keep Minnie’s mind spinning, she’s also dealing with the resurgent affections of her ex, Jackson Truvé (Matthew Darren), who was once the love of her life… up until the day he ran away with her sister, Mimi Bouvèé-Truvé (Benjamin Shaevitz), who also happens to be back in Minnie’s life with her own enigmatic intentions.

The Popcorn Frights Film Festival is currently underway, both in-person and virtually, unleashing a variety of premieres and events.
Now at the halfway point, the programming still has plenty of horror to come.
Here’s a round-up of some of Popcorn Frights’ feature offerings so far, from musical horror comedies to experimental mindbenders.
Big Easy Queens
Rivalries, betrayal, murder, sisterhood, and musical glamour ensue in the horror-tinged Big Easy Queens from director Erynn Dalton and writer Robert Leleux. Made in Florida but set in New Orleans, the film follows French Quarter mob queen Minnie Bouvèé (Eric Swanson) and her rivalry with nemesis Poodles Makenzie (Jennifer McClain). Their bitter feud for Big Easy domination escalates when Minnie’s estranged sister Mimi (Benajmin Shaevitz) resurfaces, and the body count rises, though Poodles may not be to blame.
What Big Easy Queen lacks in budget, it makes up for in dazzling musical numbers and charming camaraderie between queens.

While the concept of time seems more and more like a candy bar that I left in the car that eventually warps and melts into everything, there were still a lot of amazing horror movies, TV series, and experiences in 2022, and somehow I found the time to enjoy quite a lot of them. From two excellent film festivals to many amazing movie screenings to experiences that I’ll cherish in my horror-loving heart for the rest of my life, here are my reflections on some of my favorites of 2022:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: It’s amazing to think that that we had a year when we got a new installment in the Hellraiser, Halloween, and Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchises, and it all started with this latest chapter in Leatherface’s saga. While I don’t gel with everything that happens in this film, I can’t deny that it...

With September just days away, this week is a bit of a “quiet before the storm” sort of week, as a ton of new horror releases are coming hot and heavy in the next two months.
This week, however, is relatively quiet, but that doesn’t mean we’re not getting any new horror this week. In fact, we’re getting Five brand new horror movies in the coming days.
That includes a brand new original from the Bd-powered Screambox, not to mention the theatrical re-release of a horror classic…. in Three Dimensions for the first time.
Here’s all the new horror arriving August 30 – September 4, 2022!
First up, Bloody Disgusting is excited to debut the brand new Screambox Original PussyCake, a gore-fest from Argentina that’s now streaming exclusively on Screambox!
PussyCake is also available for 4.99 rental on VOD outlets today.

Our friends at Bloody Disgusting have debuted the first very brief teaser trailer for a new indie horror drama titled The Gravedigger, which is premiering at the Popcorn Frights horror festival in Florida this August. The film explores their connection, both are haunted by their shared past. The Gravedigger stars Paul Homza, Gisbert Heuer, Arlette Del Toro, and Tyler Charles Kane; and it's the feature directorial debut of actress Erynn Dalton. Check out the first footage. Here's the first brief teaser trailer for Erynn Dalton's The Gravedigger, direct from YouTube (via Bd): Set in the late 1700s, in one of Bavaria's forgotten cemeteries, a lone gravedigger discovers a...
