The Academy Award statuette that Darling won in 1947 for Best Art
Direction-Interior Decoration, Black-and-White for
Anna and the King of Siam (1946) was put up for auction on E-bay on January 17, 2005,
with a minimum bid of $3,000.00. The Oscar was sold for a winning bid
of $22,322.00 to showbiz historian Tom O'Neil when the auction closed
on January 24th. Pre-1950 Oscars are not subject to the proviso that
they be sold back to the Academy for one dollar.
