Following the success of Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, Hollywood released an eight-year-long tidal wave of serial killer thrillers, each one pulpier than the last. This was the era of "Seven," "Copycat," "Along Came a Spider," "Jennifer 8," "See No Evil," "Eye of the Beholder," "Sliver," "Knight Moves," and any number of others. Right at the end of the decade came Phillip Noyce's 1999 thriller "The Bone Collector," based on the airport novel by Jeffery Deaver. Deaver's original novel was the first of the long-running Lincoln Rhyme series, a series that saw its 16th installment published in 2023. Lincoln Rhyme, thanks to a spinal accident, could not move his body below his neck, and fought crime from his bed, deducting details, looking at pictures, and relying on his team.
In the film adaptation, Denzel Washington played Lincoln Rhyme and Angelina Jolie played his plucky crime fighting partner Amelia Donaghy.

The series premiere of “Tracker” reached an average 18.4 million viewers on CBS on Sunday.
Titled “Klamath Falls,” the episode hit this height thanks to massive lead-in from Super Bowl Lviii, which aired directly beforehand and became the most-watched telecast of all time, hitting an average viewership of 123.4 million people. “Tracker” retained at least 15% of the game’s audience.
It should be noted that the Super Bowl stat accounts for viewership across CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties, while the “Tracker” figure refers only to CBS viewership and will soon increase when data becomes available regarding viewership on Paramount+, CBS.com and the CBS app.
“Tracker” wasn’t the only show to benefit from the Super Bowl’s success: “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” aired next and reached 3.7 million viewers, its best viewership since 2021, while “After Midnight” followed and hit a series high of 2 million viewers.

CBS’s Tracker premiered after the Super Bowl, a time slot that usually benefits from having the Big Game as a lead-in. Unfortunately, this year’s Super Bowl went into overtime, which meant episode one was delayed on the East Coast until 11pm. After the ratings were revealed, it turned out the late start did not affect viewership, with the series premiere bringing in 18.4 million viewers. That makes Tracker the most-watched primetime entertainment program after the Super Bowl since 2021’s debut of The Equalizer.
Episode two, “Missoula,” settles into the series’ regular time slot, airing on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Justin Hartley leads the cast as Colter Shaw, Fiona Rene plays Reenie Green, and Robin Weigert is Teddi. Abby McEnany stars as Velma and Eric Graise is Bobby Exley.

For actor Justin Hartley, Super Bowl Sunday brought an extra level of excitement beyond being the biggest night in professional sports. Hartley, spending the weekend in Las Vegas leading up to the big game, was debating whether his favorite football team, The Chicago Bears, should keep their current quarterback, Justin Fields, or use their No. 1 draft pick in April to select Caleb Williams (who many sports analysts are calling a generational player in that position).
But the biggest reason for anticipation around Sunday’s match-up between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs was that the game served as the lead-in for the This Is Us star’s next series, Tracker, which aired immediately after the game on CBS.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the series premiere of Tracker.
Justin Hartley is making his return to network TV with another post-Super Bowl premiere.
After Super Bowl Lviii, viewers will be introduced to Colter Shaw in CBS’ Tracker. Colter is a lone-wolf survivalist who roams the country as a reward seeker, using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family.
Based on the book The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, Hartley teased to Deadline that the series will largely depart from the source material but maintain the “sensibilities” of the character.
Beyond that, the series will operate as a procedural, with Colter taking on new missing persons cases each week as he also struggles with the trauma of his past…which is now coming back to haunt him.

Is Reacher too violent for you? Consider Tracker, which is also based on a series of page-turning thrillers (by Jeffery Deaver), also about a drifting loner with a dark past who risks his neck wherever he goes, with the scars to prove it. A few differences: Colter Shaw (the appealing Justin Hartley of This Is Us) leads with his heart, not his fists, though he more than holds his own whenever set upon by thugs. He’s also in it for the money, a self-described “rewardist” whose catchphrase is “I collect only in success.” And succeed this skilled tracker invariably does, though not always guaranteeing a happy ending. Tracker is pretty much guaranteed a happy beginning, with CBS gifting the series the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot, providing many more eyeballs than the typical network premiere. While maybe not the sort of “event TV” that’...

This Is Us ended its six-season run in 2022, but Justin Hartley didn’t have to look far for his next project once he read Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game at the urging of Ken Olin, executive producer and director of both This Is Us and Tracker. The novel, about a skilled “reward seeker” named Colter Shaw who solves mysteries with his tracking skills, instantly resonated with the actor. “Ken goes, ‘I think there’s something there,’” recalls Hartley. “I loved the book and the character. CBS bought it on the phone pretty much.” Here, Hartley—who also serves as an executive producer on the series—reveals more. This is different from This Is Us and Kevin Pearson…or is it? Justin Hartley: I carry Kevin with me a little bit into this role. This is an action thriller and Colter’s circumstances are completely different. You’ve got the...

This is Us alum Justin Hartley plays a lone-wolf survivalist, Colter Shaw, seeking to solve mysteries in the trailer for CBS’ Tracker drama, which dropped on Friday.
“You collect rewards, right?” he’s asked at one point in the trailer. “I prefer the term ‘rewardist.’ Everyone’s looking for something,” Shaw answers as he makes his way through a forest.
CBS will use the Super Bowl, the biggest TV event of the season, as a plum promotional launch pad for Tracker on Feb. 11, as the drama starring Hartley will finally bow after it was picked up to series in December 2022.
As Shaw travels across the U.S. to resolve mysteries, at another point in the trailer he is seen giving first aid to a young woman injured while on a wilderness adventure. He takes the time to offer some advice: “How you survive is you make quick, smart decisions. You remain calm.

Justin Hartley is heading back to the Super Bowl. Hartley’s new CBS drama “Tracker” has landed the best lead-in imaginable for a series premiere: The show has landed the coveted post-Super Bowl slot next season, launching behind Super Bowl Lviii on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.
Hartley, of course, knows a thing or two about that slot. As one of the stars of NBC’s “This Is Us,” he watched a Crock Pot tear his TV family apart in that show’s very special “Super Bowl Sunday” episode, airing right after the big game in 2018.
In premiering “Tracker” after the Super Bowl, CBS continues its return to the once-common practice of using the biggest night on TV to launch a new series. The last time CBS ran the game, in 2021, the network premiered “The Equalizer” behind Super Bowl Lv. (It worked: “The Equalizer” is still on the air.) The time before that,...

Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Escape Plan), Brian Van Holt (Joe vs. Carole), and Nora Zehetner (The Right Stuff) star in the serial killer thriller Boneyard, which is currently filming in Las Vegas. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Asif Akbar (The Commando) is directing the film and crafted the screenplay with Hank Byrd, Vincent E. McDaniel, and Koji Steven Sakai.
