Spain’s Revelations showcase has focused on shorts, not features, unveiling the huge breadth of animation talent and techniques in Spain.
Some shorts directors are already stars, such as Alberto Mielgo with the Oscar-winner “The Windshield Wiper.” Diego Porral, director of “Leopoldo From the Bar,” served as animation lead on “Love, Death + Robots” episode “Kill Team Kill.”
Standouts among new projects in Revelations included “Latente,” a Next Lab Generation winner from Carlos Zaragoza and Aurora Jiménez, and Martín Romero’s “To Bird or Not to Bird,” from Uniko and Abano Producións, which is a 2D short made largely in black and white featuring an angst-ridden clock cuckoo and other birds beset by environmental destruction.
Revelations climaxes with a special screening, the first in a cinema, of “Sith,” Rodrigo Blaas’ episode in Disney+’s “Star Wars: Visions.”
As for features, here are 10 toon titles to track. Further international co-productions – Mr.

Leading European animation outfit nWave Studios has closed a multi-year output deal with prominent Scandinavian distributor Scanbox for Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland.
The agreement will cover the Nordic distribution of three upcoming features to be produced by nWave Studios, kicking off with “The Inseparables,” which is based on an original idea by Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, the Oscar-nominated writers of “Toy Story”.
“We’re proud to bring our collaborations with trustworthy European distributors one step further through this multi-year agreement with our Scandinavian partner Scanbox,” said nWave Studios’ CEO Matthieu Zeller, who also unveiled a first look image of “The Inseparables.”
Zeller said the pact “expands nWave’s footprint in strategic markets with a real appetite for quality animation and an expertise in reaching families through innovative digital campaigns.”

"There's one more thing... you can talk to animals." Viva Pictures has debuted a new full-length official Us trailer for an animated film titled The Son of Bigfoot, produced by StudioCanal in France, and animated by nWave Pictures in Belgium. The film is aimed towards younger kids and families, and is about a boy who goes "on an epic and daring quest to uncover the mystery behind his long-lost dad, only to find out that he is none other than the legendary Bigfoot." Surprise! Don't confuse this with the other animated bigfoot movie coming out this year - Smallfoot - which is made by Warner Bros. The voice cast for Son of Bigfoot includes Cinda Adams, Mari Devon, and Kirk Thornton. This really looks really bad, and I always wonder how animation this awful still gets made, because it seems like no one even tried to make a good movie.

"This year the wildest legend of all comes to life." Studiocanal UK has unveiled a very short teaser trailer for an animated film titled The Son of Bigfoot, produced by StudioCanal in France, and animated by nWave Pictures in Belgium. The film is aimed towards younger kids and families, and is about a boy who goes "on an epic and daring quest to uncover the mystery behind his long-lost dad, only to find out that he is none other than the legendary Bigfoot." Surprise! The voice cast hasn't been revealed yet, even though this teaser does include one voice. We've seen some low-budget horror films based around bigfoot recently (like Exists or Willow Creek), but it's interesting to see a goofy, family-friendly take on the furry forest monster. Enjoy. Here's the teaser trailer (+ poster) for Jeremy Degruson & Ben Stassen's The Son of Bigfoot, on YouTube: Teenage outsider Adam sets...

Jeremy Degruson and Ben Stassen's animated Thunder and the House of Magic kicks off with an unconscionable act of cruelty: A family abandons a cat on the street, leaving him to desperately dodge traffic. We know the orange tabby Thunder (Murray Blue) isn't going to get run over — not even a family film produced through Belgian tax shelters would get so dark so quickly — but it sets a jarring tone, particularly since the scene is an excuse for the first of the film's many Pov-heavy chase sequences.
The story is serviceable enough: Thunder finds his way into the spooky home of a kindly old children's magician (Doug Stone), and must band together with the distrustful resident animals to prevent the magician's evil real-estate agent nephew (Grant George) f...

Within the past few years a variety of hard-hitting, somewhat bleak dramas have hailed out of Belgium. From Our Children, to The Kid with a Bike, to the recently Academy Award nominated The Broken Circle Breakdown – it’s a nation currently going through something of a bright patch. However, sadly that doesn’t seem to extend to films made for a younger crowd, as filmmakers Jeremy Degruson and Ben Stassen present the underwhelming, albeit enchanting, children’s animation The House of Magic.
Murray Blue voices Thunder, an abandoned kitten who seeks shelter at the home of veteran magician Lawrence (Doug Stone), much to the displeasure of his other pets Maggie the Mouse (Shanelle Gray) and Jack the Rabbit (George Babbit), who are jealous of the affection shown towards him. Finally feeling settled and at home in this fantastical, outlandish new environment, living amongst a host of magical creations, it could be a short-lived stay,...

In its latest of what seem to be countless transactions at the Cannes Film Festival, Studiocanal has sold another film, this time Shout! Factory picked up "The House of Magic." This animated family feature will be theatrically shown in 3D, and tells the story of animals living with a magician. It was directed by Ben Stassen and Jeremie Degruson, and produced by Stassen's nWave Studios. The film has already been released in several locations around the globe, but no date has yet been set for a U.S. release. ...
