Cillian Murphy recently had some choice words for his film Red Eye (watch it Here), a Wes Craven-directed thriller that was released back in 2005. But he wasn’t entirely negative. So that got me thinking: Is Red Eye a good film? Or is it more in the so bad it’s good category? I personally saw Red Eye in theaters and have always had a soft spot for it. But if Oppenheimer‘s own Cillian Murphy has an issue with it, maybe it’s worth a second gander. So let’s see whether it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between as we revisit Red Eye in the video embedded above!
Scripted by Carl Ellsworth, who crafted the story with Dan Foos, Red Eye has the following synopsis: In the wake of her grandmother’s funeral, hotel manager Lisa Reisert is waiting to fly back home when she meets charming Jackson Rippner at check-in.

Over the course of its 44 seasons, “Survivor” has hosted hundreds of immunity challenges where individual players could win the opportunity to save themselves from elimination at tribal council. Since 2000 when the reality TV show began, 15 different contestants have won at least four immunity challenges. However, five of those castaways prevailed five times, a record that has never been broken. In our “Survivor” gallery above, we spotlight those with the most immunity wins in a single season.
Despite four others winning just as many as he did, Colby Donaldson from Season 2 has bragging rights as not only the first player to win five times, but also the only one to do so consecutively. Like Kelly Wiglesworth before him, Colby played the game at a point in time where challenge wins were not held as in high regard as they were later, leaving him in runner-up position to a more social game-focused player in the final vote.

“Survivor” is a game that ends with one person claiming the life-changing $1 million prize, but sometimes the winner is not the one people expect. The title of Sole Survivor is the result of taking out the biggest competitors, being likable in the cast, and appealing to the jury, all while arguing the case of why you’re the most deserving of the win. While many of the champions are well-deserved, at least according to the passionate fans at home, others spark massive debate when Jeff Probst reads their names out loud. Scroll through our photo gallery above (or click here for direct access) where we detail the Top 10 biggest “Survivor” upset winners of all time.

Over 600 people have competed on Survivor since the first season aired in 2000. Some have been more memorable than others, and there’s no doubt that one of the CBS reality show’s first stars was Colby Donaldson. But even though Colby helped Survivor reel in plenty of viewers with his good looks and Southern charm, the contestant also cost the show $100,000.

The premiere episode of “Survivor 43” aired on Wednesday night and concluded with host Jeff Probst snuffing out the torch of Morriah Young. The 28-year old from Philadelphia was the first castaway sent home after being voted out by the Baka tribe on Day 3. Did the tribe make the right decision by voting out Morriah? And what were the dumbest, most shocking and most exciting moments of the last episode?

Tori Meehan makes ‘Survivor’ history by winning first 2 individual immunity challenges of the season
Over the course of the first 21 years and 41 seasons of “Survivor,” only one woman had won the first two individual immunity challenges of her season: Laura Morett in 2009’s “Survivor: Samoa.” Now, her long-standing record has been tied by Tori Meehan, who just claimed back-to-back victories in the first two individual immunity challenges of “Survivor 42.” Talk about girl power!
One caveat in mentioning this record is that Laura’s initial immunity win was actually awarded to the best performing male (John Fincher) and female (Laura) of that specific challenge. Tori didn’t have to share either of her two immunity necklaces, which puts her truly in a league of her own when it comes to making “Survivor” history.

Beach rental business owner Jonathan Young has big dreams for his “Survivor” experience. As one of the 18 new castaways playing on “Survivor 42,” the 29-year-old Alabama resident intends to “win more immunity challenges than anyone ever has,” outdoing the likes of Colby Donaldson, Tom Westman, Terry Deitz, Ozzy Lusth, Mike Holloway and Brad Culpepper, who each won five in a single season.
It is unlikely that Jonathan will indeed amass six Immunity wins, but he is confident in his physical abilities, hoping this will make him a valued tribemate. “I’ve basically trained for this moment,” he says, noting that he spearfishes “almost daily” (watch below). As one of the most visibly buff contestants of the bunch, he knows that his tribemates may judge him in a certain light. “The first impression everybody’s getting is going, ‘Look at this big guy. I wonder what he can do,'” predicts Jonathan.

Heads up, “Survivor” fans: two of the best seasons of all time — “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Cagayan” — are now streaming on Netflix. It’s a first for the blockbuster streaming site, which officially made available these two installments of CBS’s reality TV show on November 15. While there is still no official word on when the program can resume production in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, all 40 seasons will continue to stream on CBS All Access, with Jeff Probst serving as host.

While “Survivor” fans patiently await news on when Season 41 might eventually premiere (the latest rumor has it airing in Spring 2021), there is some good news on the horizon as reruns of CBS’s reality TV show are coming to Netflix. Mark your calendars for November 15, as that’s when the series will start streaming on the platform for the first time, according to Netflix Queue. However, there’s a massive catch as Netflix has only acquired two cycles: “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” (Season 20) and “Survivor: Cagayan — Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty” (Season 28). Of course, all 40 seasons will continue to stream on CBS All Access.

In a game of strategy and social bonds, challenge strength remains an important component in “Survivor” 20 years later. Opinion is split on how much value there is in Immunity Challenge wins, but more often than not, they have helped players beast their way to the end and even with the $1 million prize. Examples include Tom Westman (“Palau”), Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), Kim Spradlin (“One World”) and Mike Holloway (“Worlds Apart”).
Other challenge beasts are able to win a bunch of challenges but just come up short in the end. Colby Donaldson is one of the original cases of this, and we have seen players like Ozzy Lusth, Terry Deitz, Spencer Bledsoe and Brad Culpepper do the same, without claiming the title of Sole Survivor. Then there are players like Joe Anglim, who are just so good at challenges that they must be voted out the minute they lose an Immunity Challenge.

It’s no surprise that when the social experiment of “Survivor” began in 2000 that it would produce some of reality TV’s sexiest flings ever. When Colleen and Greg began flirting on season 1 it was a bit of a surprise to viewers, but now the terms “showmance” and “power couple” are as common as “immunity challenge” and “tribal council.” Over the course of 40 seasons in 20 years, contestants have put aside bad breath, limbs scarred from bug bites and their saggy, dirty swimsuits in order to find each other attractive enough to, yes, fall in love. In our photo gallery above, we detail 10 of the most iconic showmances in “Survivor” history.

Let’s get one thing out of the way. The winner of each “Survivor” season deserved to win, because they were able to do the most important thing in the game, which is to convince the jury to vote for them to be the Sole Survivor. Each season comes with a different set of circumstances and we can respect the decision process that goes into rewarding one castaway over the other with the $1 million prize. That doesn’t stop us from feeling a little outraged over some jury decisions, however. Tour our gallery above of the 12 “Survivor” runners-up we feel were most robbed of the title.
Some runners-up had to go up against a last-minute variable, like Chrissy Hofbeck and the final fire-making challenge in “Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers” and Gavin Whitson and the presence of Chris Underwood, who spent most of the game on the Edge of Extinction...

In honor of the upcoming 40th season of the beloved reality series, which premiered in 2000, here are some of the most shocking moments of the last 20 years of “Survivor” — from full-frontal nudity on national television to Dan Spilo getting kicked off the show last season. Season 40 premieres Feb. 12 at 8/7c on CBS.
Dan Spilo Gets Kicked Off the Show
The Hollywood talent manager was ejected from “Survivor: Island of the Idols” in 2019 following accusations of inappropriate touching, making him the first person to ever be kicked off the show. He has since said he is “deeply sorry.”
Season 1 Winner Richard Hatch Jailed for Tax Evasion
He was known as somewhat of a villain during his 2 stints on the show, but even more drama plagued Hatch after his time on “Survivor.” He ended up having to serve time in federal prison for tax evasion. Forbes has a good explainer of what happened there.

This week on “Survivor,” a contestant (Dan Spilo) was removed from the game for the first time ever due to an off-camera “incident” involving sexual misconduct. (See host Jeff Probst‘s response.) The shocking development reminds us of the last time something like this happened on CBS’s reality TV show. The year was 2004. The season, “All-Stars.” In the fifth episode, the players competed in an immunity challenge that required them to brush up against each other as they ran across a balance beam. A problem arose when Richard Hatch, who was voluntarily naked (as he often was on the island) flaunted his body against Sue Hawk. Watch the incident below.
At first Hawk seemed to laugh it off, but when she got back to camp she couldn’t get that moment out of her mind. “I just kept reliving the incident. It just kept eating into me more and more like a cancer,...

“The Amazing Race” fans are about to be introduced to one of the greatest reality TV heroes of all time: Rupert Boneham. Longtime “Survivor” viewers are already keenly aware of this tie-dye pirate from his four seasons starring on that CBS hit. Though he never claimed victory as the winner of “Survivor,” he did take home a special fan-voted prize of $1 million during 2004’s “America’s Tribal Council.” He’s that beloved.
In the upcoming 31st season of “The Amazing Race,” which will now debut April 17 on CBS, Rupert will be teamed up with his wife Laura Boneham, who previously competed against Rupert on “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” in 2013. Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Which is your favorite scripted TV show about sports? Old and current shows are fair game.
June Thomas (@junethomas), Slate
I was a big fan of the Freeform show “Make It or Break It,” about the lives of a group of elite gymnasts working toward their dream of competing in the Olympics. Even typing that sentence, I know how hokey it sounds, and yes, it touched on all the clichés about women’s gymnastics – eating disorders, overburdened parents, inappropriate relationships with coaches – but you know what, all those things bubble up in the real sport with depressing regularity.

Et: Jeff Probst said multiple times that you were so eager to jump back into Survivor that you even blindly said yes to joining this season without knowing what they were asking you. When you heard the title of the season was Game Changers, did that...

[This story contains spoilers for the finale of Survivor: Cambodia — Second Chance.] In the aftermath of the Survivor: Cambodia — Second Chance finale, it's tempting to write a story about how Survivor is back, but that makes the assumption that it was ever truly gone. Long-running reality shows tend to have a familiar curve: Success, phenomenon, dwindling success, cancellation. American Idol reaches the end of that journey in the spring. But not Survivor. It's been a long time since Richard Hatch wandering naked and Colby Donaldson essentially handing Tina a million dollars along with magazine covers,

This Thursday on Graceland (USA Network, 10/9c), Paige Arkin will go undercover in a bid to get cozy with wannabe Armenian crime boss Ari’s rival, Toros. Offering Briggs a hand with his op is part of Paige’s “penance” for (very understandably) bungling the team’s recent attempt to gaslight Ari.

This concludes my coverage of "Survivor: Worlds Apart." The 30th "Survivor" installment -- "The Dirty 30" as the castaways were apparently calling it -- wrapped up last Wednesday with a decisive victory for Texas oil driller Mike Holloway, who earned six votes from the Jury, beating Will and Carolyn, who took one symbolic vote apiece. It was a hard-earned win for Mike, who started off in a position of power with a strong Blue Collar alliance only to have his former chums turn on him. Backed into a corner, Mike made a new alliance with vestiges of both White and No Collar tribes, ties that paid few dividends during the season, but formed the spine of his Jury triumph. After perceived challenge powerhouse Joe was taken out, Mike became the target every single week and nearly every single week he won Individual Immunity, tying a quartet of "Survivor" legends -- Colby,...

Pre-credit sequence. It's Night 35 and the Top 5 castaways return to camp. Carolyn is giddy. Mike is incredulous. Rodney is offended that Carolyn didn't tell him about the Idol, which is funny since Carolyn's offended that Rodney voted for her. They agree that without Idols or advantages remaining, everybody wants Mike out, which is especially funny since Mike was the only person to support Carolyn at the previous Tribal. But loyalty doesn't go very far when you're this deep into "Survivor." Mother-Lover. Tonight's Reward is an individual challenge and it's really only worthwhile if Rodney loses. No Rewards for Rodney! It's a complicated challenge involving tiles, a number puzzle, shuffle board and other stuff. Wanna know what they're playing for? Love! Carolyn's husband comes out and she cries. It's a fairy tale marriage. Everybody cries. Mike's mom comes out and he cries. It's a fairy tale mother-son relationship.

Pre-credit sequence. When we left things, Rodney had just been blindsided by Joaquin's eviction. This won't go well. Escameca returns and Rodney is simmering. "It's the game," Joe says, philosophically and still in the game. Tyler is the first to express his disappointment and to praise the Blue Collar tribe for its Rodney-excluding unity. It falls to Mike to attempt to coddle Rodney. "Hopefully he doesn't take it too personal," Mike tells us, suggesting he's never actually met Rodney. Mike takes a walk with Rodney and explains that their perception was that Joaquin was reeling him in. "I was working on a fugazi fake alliance," Rodney protests, adding that he thought he was Michael Jordan and now he's feeling like Luc Longley. "I'm acting, bro. The results of a CBS.com poll of "Survivor" fans are now on newsstands, as part of a special commemorative issue of CBS Watch! magazine. The 100-page, full-color magazine is a pretty great overview of the series, except for the absolute wrongness of its polls. That's especially true for its "all time best seasons" poll. Yes, ranking "Survivor" seasons is about as difficult as stacking cooked spaghetti noodles, and about as useful. It's mostly good for creating disagreement. What one viewer values, another dismisses--but that's one of the many reasons why the series has survived for 30 seasons. There's a lot to argue about. Even looking at objective data about Survivor winners and cast members can prompt discussion. So, here are the results of CBS' poll, and one fan's thoughts and arguments about why the other fans' collective wisdom often seems screwed up. #1: Survivor Heroes vs. Villains, season 20, 2010 Why this...

"Survivor: Blood vs. Water" had a crazy thing happen last episode -- the Tribal Council, fueled by Hayden's last-ditch effort to sway Ciera's vote and save himself, went all the way to a drawing of rocks after two tie votes. It was only the second time that has ever happened in "Survivor" history and it sent Katie to Redemption Island.

Our castaways are being fairly dominated by Tyson's game on "Survivor: Blood vs. Water," with Ciera even going along with a vote to oust her mother. Can anyone topple Tyson?
Post-Vote
Everyone at Kasama is acting so somber, like Ciera just sentenced her mom to death or something. At Redemption, Laura M is saying how tough it was -- Vytas and Tina are surprised Ciera did it. C'mon guys, it's not that serious.

Jeff starts things off by saying, "Ciera voted you out of this game. She voted. her mom. out." And Ciera and Laura cry. Again with the melodrama. Stop, you guys. This is getting silly.
Anyway, the challenge is rolling wooden cubes through a rope tunnel, then stacking the cubes so that each side of the four-cube tower has no repeat colors.

Top Shot is back on History, and this time around we’re in for the somewhat obligatory All-Star season. As reality fans know, you can hardly go through a few seasons of any competition without bringing back the contestants that hooked audiences, whether they did so in a good or bad way. Top Shot isn’t likely to buck the trend, and the cast list seems to bear that out. Fan favorites like Kelly Bachand, all the way from season one, are here, as are the competitors who were chasing Most Hated Reality Star honors… I’ll let you decide who that might be.
Though a huge fan of the show, I wonder about the extent to which those in charge have paid attention to what seems to be the overall reaction to the latest season. Whether you’re keeping up with the general reactions on Twitter and similar social media outlets,...

Pier Paolo Pasolini’S Trilogy Of Life (Criterion) Pier Paolo Pasolini was Italy’s last Neo-Realist, a product of post-ww II Europe who was fervently Catholic, openly gay, defiantly Marxist, and one of the most original voices of the 20th century’s second half. Before his brutal murder in 1975 (after the premiere of his still-controversial swan song, “Salo”), Pasolini directed a trilogy of films based on masterpieces of medieval literature: Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales,” and “The Thousand and One Nights (also known as “The Arabian Nights”). The three films celebrate the uninhibited, earthy, raw carnal nature of the original texts, leaving little to the imagination, but also offering Pasolini’s own very unique and pointed views on modern society, consumerism, religious and sexual mores (and hypocrisies), and an unexpurgated celebration of the human body, both male and female. Survivor is a festival of hotness and exhaustion, much like many of my favorite Herb Ritts music videos. That means it's also inherently gay, and that means we have a job to do before the premiere of Survivor: Philippines this Wednesday: rank the nine finest hotties in the show's history. I tried to assemble a varied platter here of winners and also-rans, so forgive me if I slighted your fave. I'm sure it wasn't personal.
9. Yul Kwon from Cook Islands
Oh yes. Love this man, love that he won during a particularly racially charged season of Survivor, and I especially love his honest smile and threatening bod. He's so charismatic, he was given a PBS show called America Revealed. If this means a spinoff called Yul Kwon Revealed is forthcoming, I'm in full support.
8. Jud/"Fabio" from Nicaragua
A word about Nicaragua: I went off the rails and started rooting for NaOnka that season.

Get your facts straight: "Facts of Life" star Lisa Whelchel isn't competing on "Survivor: Philippines" to revive her acting career.
"I'm a superfan of 'Survivor,'" Whelchel told Zap2it in the Philippines the day before the start of the game she said she was "born to play."

So why now?

In what could be big news, Pink News is reporting that Catholic Cardinal Keith Michael Patrick O'Brien is giving a speech Sunday removing opposition to civil marriages in the UK, but says the church will still oppose same-sex marriages taking place in churches, Catholic or not. Of course, this is probably an excellent April Fool's Day joke, and I do say excellent as it was written subtly.
