Based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 horror-comedy classic, Creepshow is still the most fun you’ll ever have being scared. A comic book comes to life in a series of vignettes, exploring terrors ranging from murder, creatures, monsters, and delusions to the supernatural and unexplainable. You never know what will be on the next page…

Peter Guzzardo -- who is now representing the long lost film American Blue Note, written about recently in SydneysBuzz and Tribeca Film Institute's Reframe Collection Blog — and I first met in New York at the Ifp's Independent Film Market where we were introduced by Randi Stein sometime in the 80s, perhaps after he had finished his first feature, Rocky Point, (a love story about a guy a girl and a band which featured the music of the Smithereens) or later on, when he worked as director of marketing at Fries Entertainment. We would see each other at the various markets year after year along with Debra Brown, Ken Schwenker, Jim Dudelson et al.
Because we go so far back, nostalgia is always good game for us. Today he is writing about James Gandolfini, how he discovered him and cast him in his first starring role in a feature film, Italian Movie also starring Rita Moreno as Isabella. The worldwide distributor was MGM. "This is the first of many Jimmy stories I can give you if you'd like, " he says.
I met James Gandolfini in late 1992 when he came to a casting call for a feature film I was producing called Italian Movie. Not much was being produced in New York back then, so we had the good fortune of access to the top preproduction, production, and post production talent including the remarkable casting director Ellen Parks. During auditions, I would sit between Ellen and director Roberto Monticello and feed the lines to the actors as they tried out one by one. This was a special project, written by Marco Cristino, an air conditioning contractor with a personal story to tell about his adventures as a young Italian immigrant and small business man in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, when it was still “Mobbed Up” and debts were paid in more ways than one.
The part we were casting for that day was the lead role of the shake down artist, the gentle, but ruthless villain who never let a debt go unpaid. We had read 5 or 6 actors that day, some with names you might know, but none of them seemed right. That was until a humble thirtyish young man looking ten years older than he was walked in.
“Hi, I’m Jimmy. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try out for this part.” He sat down looked at the sides for a few seconds, and then asked me if it would be Ok if he went into the other room for a few minutes.
When he came back Ellen explained the part in more detail and asked if he was ready. He nodded. I read him the first line. Then, in the blink of an eye, he transformed from a humble gentle man into a very very frightening one. By the reading of the second line, I realized I was witnessing something very special. A rare moment when you know you are around greatness.
When the audition was over, just as quickly as he had disappeared, the gentle humble soul who was James Gandolfini reappeared, took a breath, gave a broad smile, thanked us again for the opportunity and sheepishly walked away.
The room was filled with awe and silence. This man had so much talent, it was hard to believe no one had every noticed it before. The three of us looked at each other, like the Kodak clients in Mad Men after hearing Don Drapper’s pitch on the Kodak Carrousel . There was no need to look at anyone else.
“Let’s sign him up before someone else does!!"
The process that followed in order to accomplish this is another very interesting very Hollywood story…
James Gandolfini.
The gentle giant who years later, after he became rich and famous, would still call out to me or lay his hand on my shoulder whenever he would see me on the street in Greenwich Village. I remember the first time he did it -- well after Tony Soprano became a household name..
“Mr. Guzzardo, right?" he said. “I can’t believe what they are doing with me, it’s crazy.... Thank you…”

A blast from the past. He never really left the scene totally, but veteran Jim Dudelson has returned to form Blairwood Entertainment, an intellectual property asset management company. Bec will acquire finished properties and manage the worldwide rights by licensing and collecting revenues from all formats: theatrical, TV, home video/ DVD, VoD and other internet formats, video games, cell phones and other media. In Cannes he's offering Burma - A Human Tragedy by Neil Hollander narrated by Anjelica Huston, exec producer, City Of Gardens by Camilo Vila where amidst the political and social chaos of Peru in 1980, a young…...

Wow, talk about something that doesn't need to happen. From 2005's Day of the Dead 2: Contagium and ending with 2008's Day of the Dead remake, you would think the studios would be done but this is Hollywood and if there is money to be made, money will be made on zombies backs...
According to Variety, producer James Dudelson of Taurus Entertainment, is working on yet another remake of Day of the Dead, this time in 3D. So the studio behind Creepshow 3 and Day of the Dead 2: Contagium gets another try to pay homage to George A. Rombero. We're not holding out breath. Stay tuned for more zombie in 3D news as we get it.

If there's one film company out there whom we take an extreme amount of issue with, it is James Glenn Dudelson and Ana Clavell's Taurus Entertainment. The reason is because the duo take properties they ended up owning through some minor miracle and then give them horrendous in-name-only sequels to fool fans into watching and possibly buying. They're back and ready to do more damage.
As if their laughable bad sequels Day of the Dead 2: Contagium) (review here) (btw, it's several years later and "Contagium" is still not a word) and Creepshow 3 (review here) were not enough of a piss poor insult, they're ready to screw with fans yet again.
According to Variety Taurus Entertainment is currently producing a remake of George A. Romero's Day of the Dead in 3D, and Dudelson said many buyers have requested 3D conversions of classic 2D movies because "3D works well for certain genres,...

Taurus Entertainment's crimes against the universe have, thankfully, been minimal and baffling but in their time on the genre scene they gave us Day of the Dead 2: Contagion and Creepshow 3 , exploiting the rights they own to George Romero's previous efforts. It's no secret Taurus is considering a redo of Knightriders . Another remake of Day of the Dead ? Also possible. Within a Variety story about 3D at Cannes came this nugget: Producer James Dudelson of horror-focused Taurus Entertainment, is currently producing a remake of George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead" in 3D and said many buyers have requested 3D conversions of classic 2D movies because "3D works well for certain genres, like horror." But, he cautioned, "You can't just slap a 3D...

Words escape me. Wait. No they don't. After the cinematic abortion known as Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (review here), I thought, nay, I prayed that the hacks over at Taurus "Entertainment"(!), James Glenn Dudelson, Ana Clavell and company, would have the common decency to leave poor Day of the Dead alone. Alas, they have yet more plans to cash in on that flick's good name -- enter Day of the Dead: Epidemic. Sigh.
Well, at the very least Epidemic is a word -- unlike Contagium. Maybe they finally got themselves a spell check! According to the official Taurus website Day of the Dead: Epidemic will be going the cinéma vérité route with pockets of survivors around the world broadcasting their stories. Obviously they couldn't figure out how to make this friggin' guaranteed mess any cheaper. Why not shoot it on VHS?
That's right, kids. Dudelson and company will...

Update:Yesterday I noticed that there was already conflicting information out there about the new Creepshow series, but it was kind of hard to care after learning Taurus Entertainment was involved. So, we just ran with the press release and let it be.
Then we got an e-mail in from HDFilms saying the show is actually called Creepshow: Raw (official site) and that logo above is not official. On top of that, the press release that was sent out was some kind of big no-no on the part of Taurus Entertainment and this series will have nothing to do with their embarrassing Creepshow 3, neither in style or direction (Yay!).
I'd love to give HDFilms a chance to clean out the bad taste James Dudelson and Ana Clavell left in my mouth, and that may be the case now that we've learned Taurus is only here as executive producer with no creative ties to the show.
