By my count, this is the seventh poster for Kevin Smith’s Red State to be released in the last few months, and it is just as excellent as the last six. Same black background, same scratched-up effect, and now we see the brilliant Stephen Root (TV’s King of the Hill and NewsRadio) as The Sheriff.
In the same vein as the first six posters, this new Red State poster was put up for auction and Film Threat were given the rights to show it first. The money they bid is going to two charities: $2,050 will go to the American Red Cross, for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan, and $350 will go to The Wayne Foundation, a charity devoted to fighting against child prostitution and human trafficking.
Quoting Kevin Smith on the use of the poster, if anyone else should want to use or share it:

It's been a while, but Kevin Smith is back with another Red State themed charity poster unveiling, this one showcasing Stephen Root as "Sheriff Wynan". Take a gander inside.
And as always it comes with a message from Smith:
"If you’re a movie website or film journalist and you want to feature this poster or use it in a story, don’t be a detail-thin dick.
Be sure to tell people Why the poster was released: because Gavin Ap’ Morrygan, Darryl Clarke, Jamie Calder, Dan Duffy, Heath C. Ice and FilmThreat.com bid $2050 to earthquake and tsunami relief for Japan.
If you also include the link for Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief in your story/article, you’re not only being a thorough journalist, you’re also helping to save actual lives.
It only takes a few seconds longer to provide all available facts in any story.
Including This fact can help save lives.

While Kevin Smith charges fans upwards of $80 to see his movie Red State in a theater, he continues to share assets for the movie with fans who donate to a charitable cause. His latest character poster features Stephen Root as "Sherrif Wynan" and was given to FilmThreat, Heath C, Ice, Dan Duffy, Jamie Calder, Darryl Clarke, and Gavin Ap Morrygan after they all donated to Japanese Relief at redcross.org. Red State unfolds in a small town dominated by a fundamentalist preacher, Abin Cooper. It tells the story of three high school boys who, on their way to an internet arranged meeting with a woman, end up crossing paths with Cooper. The encounter sets into motion a series of events that causes all hell to break loose. It opens wide on October 19.

Kevin Smith has auctioned off a new character poster for his film Red State for the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief. Smith has taken the film on tour across the country, so when it comes to your area make sure to check it out if you want to. The movie obviously isn't for everyone.
I had a chance to see the film at Sundance 2011 this year, and ultimitley I thought it was a good film. It wasn't what I thought it would be, and the ending could have been a lot better, but it was a watchable film and somewhat entertaining. You can read Ben P's full review for the film Here, and watch our video reaction Here.
