Louis Theroux has unveiled a Sky feature documentary exploring the controversial affair between a married female professor and a non-verbal black man with cerebral palsy, which led to one of the most divisive criminal trials of the 21st century.
As he prepares to deliver tomorrow’s Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart address, Tell Them You Love Me looks set to be one of the most high profile shows so far to come from the celebrated documentarian’s Mindhouse Productions.
Co-produced with U.S. streamer Topic and distributed by Kino Lorber in North America and NBCUniversal internationally, the 100-minute feature follows the astounding events that led to a divisive criminal trial, which is described as a “misunderstood love affair or a tale of sexual assault and predatory behaviour.”

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
The last direct-to-video entry before the big budget theatrical remake, Amityville: Dollhouse adopts the same format as the last few films without contributing much new to the mix. By this point, the formula is fixed: take a haunted object that is tangentially tied to the original Long Island house, throw a dysfunctional family into the mix, and whip up a variety of bizarre events. Dollhouse follows this to a tee: it’s not bad, but the film is the least inspired entry to date, with an odd collection of half-baked ideas that don’t really come together to form a cohesive whole.
The film follows a blended family, something that first time director (and prolific Amityville producer) Steve White explains in his...

Last Year’s Winner: “Saturday Night Live”
Still Eligible: Yes.
Hot Streak: “Saturday Night Live” has won two years running, meaning it’s won exactly half of the awards ever handed out for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. However, despite Lorne Michaels’ landmark NBC series’ Emmy dominance over the last few years, it didn’t fare all that well before the Best Variety Series category was split in two: Sketch and Talk. “SNL” only won two awards in 38 years prior to the separation and hadn’t taken home the top prize since 1993.
Fun Fact: Unlike other actors, when “SNL” performers are nominated for Emmys they’re not credited for each character they’ve played. For instance, last year Tatiana Maslany was nominated for playing “Sarah Manning, Helena, Alison Hendrix, Cosima Niehaus, Rachel Duncan, Krystal Goderitch, Elizabeth (Beth) Childs, Jennifer Fitzsimmons, Katja Obinger, Tony Sawicki, Veera Suominen (M.K.), Camilla Torres and Unnamed Clone” in “Orphan Black.

After being ineligible at last year’s Emmys, Tatiana Maslany made a comeback this year with her surprise nomination in Best Drama Actress for the final season of “Orphan Black.” She now has a total of three nominations for the BBC America sci-fi series, her previous two being in 2015 and 2016, and even triumphing on her second bid in 2016. This year she’s on the ballot for playing – wait for it – a whopping 13 characters. Now that she’s back in the running, will she get a farewell hug from Emmy voters for the volume of her work in the show’s final season?

Actors and actresses may get most of the glory, but it truly does take a village to make a character come alive on screen. Departments including hair, makeup and costumes are crucial to building a backstory or offer Easter eggs to details that may not be deliberately stated in dialogue or viewed in facial expressions, as well as to provide performers crucial assistance in fleshing out a role.

Orphan Black 5×03 was a glorious episode for Alison Hendrix, everyone’s favorite suburbanite clone. Although Alison’s life has been turned upside down by discovering she’s a clone just as much as everyone else’s has, she’s never truly had a chance to show her true strength. Even when Alison was involved in some of the most high-stakes drama of the series, she always managed, somehow, to be Orphan Black‘s comic relief. Alison never had the power of Rachel Duncan, the terrifying nature of Helena, or the grit of Sarah Manning. She wasn’t as smart as Cosima Niehaus. Somehow, Alison was always Orphan Black‘s

In Orphan Black 5×02, everything old was new again. Sarah Manning was back in a Dyad containment cell, wearing those familiar blue scrubs from the series’ second season finale. This time, however, the situation was a little bit different. Once upon a time, in an attempt to keep Kira safe, Sarah surrendered. However, in Orphan Black 5×02, Sarah was at Dyad completely against her will. And instead of seeking to find a way to save her, her family was cooperating with Rachel Duncan herself. Were they brainwashed? Was Sarah being lied to? As Orphan Black 5×02 unfolded, Sarah once again made keeping Kira safe

It’s difficult enough for an actor to be tasked with transforming into a new person — in aspect, personality, movement and spirit — from role to role. But when double duty (or more) is required within the same project, that’s when the real challenge kicks in, because the viewer must be convinced that the same actor is distinctly different when they’re playing both parts in rapid succession, sometimes even side-by side or interacting with each other.
Dating back to shows like “The Patty Duke Show,” “Bewitched” and “I Dream of Jeannie,” the dual role usually allowed for storylines involving twins, cousins or other lookalikes. Even “Knight Rider” stuck a mustache and goatee on David Hasselhoff to give him an evil twin. Over time though, these performances became less campy and more convincing, going beyond the fake hair, goofy costuming or “evil” shortcut trappings. These days, dual roles can be...

"Welcome to the Final Trip." BBC America has announced that the fifth and final season of their hit sci-fi drama Orphan Black will premiere on Saturday, June 10 at 10 p.m. Est. For those unfamiliar, the critically acclaimed series stars the incomparable Tatiana Maslany as a plethora of sister clones, including Sarah Manning, Alison Hendrix, Cosima Niehaus, Helena, & Rachel Duncan, amongst others, as they attempt to unlock the truth behind their collective origin. The series, which launched in 2013 has netted Maslany a wide range of awards, including, but not limited to, a Primetime Emmy, two Critics Choice Television Awards, and a Television Critics Association Award. She's also earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work. Check out the announcement tweet below: #OrphanBlack: Welcome to the Final Trip. Another amazing season of clone drama (and audiences wondering about Tatiana Maslany's well-deserved Emmy) has come to a close with the Orphan Black Season 4 Finale.
As a whole, Orphan Black Season 4 was pretty damn great. It was certainly an improvement over Orphan Black Season 3, which was a bit too Castor-clone-filled for my tastes. There were plenty of wonderful performances, heartbreaking moments, killer twists, and satisfying reunions – all the makings of spectacular drama.
While we're sad to have learned that next season will be the show's last hurrah, the finale set up plenty to look forward to. A new villain, in the form of P. T. Westmoreland, Cophine goodness, and Sarah needing to rescue her family (yet again) are all on the horizon.
But before we move on to anticipating and speculating about Orphan Black Season 5, let's take a look back at the highs, the lows, and the clone MVPs...

If there's one thing the Clone Club learned in the season four finale of Orphan Black, it's that Rachel Duncan (Tatiana Maslany) is ice cold. Well, you probably knew that already, since that's kind of her thing. After all, we first met this particular clone when she was working for the other side. But after last week's bad-ass moment when she took down this season's villain, Evie Cho (Jessalyn Wanlim), right in the middle of a press conference, it was hard not to root for her. Too bad, then, that we realized in the finale that Rachel's only looking out for herself and her own power, as she sabotaged pretty much everything her seestras have been working toward for the entire...

Elsewhere in the photos, Sarah — who’s on the run — attempts to have the bot removed from her mouth before it kills her. Meanwhile, manic mama-to-be Helena and Alison’s husband Donnie find themselves in quite an interesting position.

3.9 Insolvent Phantom Of Tomorrow
I've been recapping Orphan Black for a while now, and pretty much every single episode I've been asked to review has been nearly flawless from start to finish. So when I tell you that I think this episode might be my favourite one, I need you to understand the height of the bar it had to jump over to reach that title. Insolvent Phantom Of Tomorrow had the kind of stakes that felt like they belonged in a series finale, and I don't think I've ever been so stunned by a twist.
Let's get the other main storylines out of the way first so we can talk about London.

Fans of BBC America's addictive clone drama "Orphan Black" have endured many surprises in the series' rollicking second season - the reveal of Rachel Duncan's father, Tony the transgender clone, the resurgence of Vic - but nothing is bound to shock more than the season 2 finale, airing tomorrow night at 9pm. Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly released a short but impactful clip from the upcoming season ender, one that promises a dangerous conclusion to the season long war between Rachel and Sarah Manning. In typical "Orphan Black" fashion, last weekend's penultimate episode ended with a head-turning fake out, as Rachel impersonated Sarah in order to kidnap Sarah's daughter Kira from the hospital. As always, the scene was another reminder of how dynamic Tatiana Maslany is in creating unique, well-defined characters and just how vital it is that she earns a nomination for Best Actress - Drama at this year's Emmy Awards.

If season 2 of Orphan Black has been the war between Sarah and Rachel, then we should be preparing ourselves for an epic battle when the season finale airs Saturday at 9pm on BBC America. And we have an exclusive sneak peek of said battle right here.
“The last time I saw your mother she laid hands on me,” proclone Rachel Duncan tells Sarah’s kidnapped daughter Kira in this scene from the finale, while Sarah watches helplessly behind a one way mirror. Rachel then goes on to talk some more smack about Kira’s mommy before directing a not-so-subtle message...

More happens in one episode of Orphan Black than in entire seasons of other shows. Here's Kaci's review...

2.6 To Hound Nature In Her Wanderings
I am a fan of complicated protagonists. Sure, it's nice sometimes to have a Hero-with-a-capital-h whose motives are always pure and whose desire to do good trumps all. Those kinds of characters have a time and a place and I can appreciate them when the time is right. But when it's not time for a classical hero, there's a particular void that only a complicated protagonist can fill. And what I mean by that is this: Sarah Manning is without a doubt the hero of this show. We, almost to a person, want her to succeed. But sometimes she does things that make us angry at her, that are just flat-out wrong. I like protagonists who aren't always the most likeable.
