Baseball legend David “Big Papi” Ortiz is taking a journey through baseball history in his new ESPN Plus series “Big Papi’s Places.”
Ortiz hosts the sports series, the latest expansion of the football-centric ESPN Plus series “Peyton’s Places,” with the first episode now available to stream.
In an exclusive clip (see below), Ortiz and “Peyton’s Places” host Peyton Manning meet up, with Manning offering Ortiz a chance to host his own show. Of course, there are qualifications. Manning needs to know if Ortiz has at least one World Series ring or has ever hit over 500 homeruns. Ortiz is a three-time World Series champion and finished his 20-season career with 541 homeruns.
“From legends like Babe Ruth to the iconic stadiums of the sport such as Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, baseball is rich with history begging to be shared with more people,” said Ortiz. “To be able to...

Keith Olbermann is getting away from politics for the time being and to dive back into the world of baseball. Turner Sports announced that Olbermann will be joining TBS' Major League Baseball postseason studio show. Also taking part in the show will be Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
This is familiar ground for Olbermann, who hosted similar postseason baseball shows on NBC and Fox in the 1990s. As for whether he will one day return to politics, Olbermann said in a conference call that he has "absolutely no idea where my career is going. I have certainly learned not to make any predictions."
"Baseball is my passion," Olbermann said. "On a professional level, this is great for me because it's what I do. I did this at home to the TV by myself. Now there will be people watching. I'll get paid for it and I get to wear...

Keith Olbermann is getting back into broadcasting.
Turner Sports said Wednesday that it is hiring Olbermann to host its baseball studio show for the postseason. He will team with Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
Olbermann most recently did a political show at Current TV before he had a falling-out with his bosses. While generally acknowledged to be a smart and witty broadcaster, off-screen battles with executives have kept him jumping to different jobs.
Olbermann was a postseason baseball studio host at both NBC and Fox more than a decade ago.

In his first TV gig since leaving Current TV, Keith Olbermann has been tapped by Turner Sports as host of TBS’ Major League Baseball postseason studio show, joining analyst and Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley. Additionally, Ron Darling, who joined TBS as an Mlb analyst in 2008, has inked a long-term extension. And Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. will transition from the studio to the broadcast booth full time this postseason. This past baseball season, there was no one who threw the heat quite like Justin Verlander. He won the Cy Young Award and became the first pitcher to win the Mvp award since Oakland’s Dennis Eckersley did in 1992 and the first starting pitcher to win since Roger Clemens in 1986. He finished 2011 with a career-best 24-5 record for the Detroit Tigers with a 2.40 Era and 250 strikeouts.
For major league gamers, Verlander landed the cover of Mlb 2K12 and will appear on tonight’s Conan O’Brien’s late night TBS talk show. 2K Sports announced that Verlander will make “a special announcement” during his appearance, which we’ll speculate is either revealing the cover art of the game – something that Verlander has already done on his Twitter – or that 2K Sports will continue their one million dollar giveaway to the first person to pitch a perfect game (a successful promotion...

He's a media creation in a business where coaches add very little. Buzz Bissinger on why the Zen Master bears some blame for the Lakers' spectacular collapse.
And now, as the great Zen Master Phil Jackson walks down the rose-covered road into retirement, let us meditate on the most overrated position in all of sports: the Coach.
Related story on The Daily Beast: Mark Cuban Shoots Straight
Reams have been written on the Coach-his X-and-o genius, his ability to motivate in the locker room (do you think there is a single player who hasn't heard a variation of that speech a thousand times before?).
Do coaches make a significant difference? They do in college football and basketball, not because of anything they do on the hardwood or gridiron, but because of their ability to recruit with or without intermediaries to deliver the cash.

Warning to all Parks and Recreation viewers: the microchip has been compromised! We repeat: the microchip has been compromised!
Fortunately, it looks like Chris and his 2.8% body fat will be okay following events in "Flu Season," which turned this sweaty, fever-inducing illness into the funniest malady of the year.
One of the perks of Parks is how it's done such a great job grounding it's seemingly ridiculous characters. Chris might come across as over-the-top and irritating, but all it took was one story last week about the basis behind his personality for viewers (and Ann) to understand where he's coming from.
If you were told you'd never live to see this age, wouldn't you also hilariously yell "Way to go, buddy!" at fellow hospital patients? I loved that.
Similarly, Amy Poehler could have played an overly medicated Leslie for slapstick comedy, but there's a reason Ben found himself attracted to...

"The time is now. The place is Pawnee. Let's make history."
Upon rewatching last week's episode of Parks and Recreation it almost felt like a second pilot episode, though you'd be hard pressed to find a better and funnier pilot. I thought it was a great (re)introduction to the fantastic ensemble. This is now the third season of the show, but with the show in a new timeslot, there was a feeling in the air like this was a new beginning, and the show delivered on all fronts. Those of us who were already fans were delighted to see the characters we love back on our televisions, and the healthy Office lead-in undoubtedly got some new viewers on board with the Pawnee gang.
