- As an artist, he exhibited everywhere from the Los Angeles Museum and the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce to the Smithsonian and Pentagon (commissioned by the United States Air Force Art Program).
- As an illustrator he designed the covers of adult men's magazines such as Stag.
- According to Laura Wagner in her article on Bill in the Winter 2013/2014 issue of Films of the Golden Age, he became a semi-heartthrob in WWII films despite the fact that his acting was rather staid and he was often unable to deliver the simplest of lines.
