Pierce Brosnan has been cast in the upcoming biopic on boxing British-Yemeni pugilist Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed, ‘Giant’.
Amir El-Masry will also star in the sporting drama that tells the story of Prince Naseem’s rags-to-riches ascent to a World Championship under the tutelage of his Irish-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle. El-Masry will play Naz, and Brosnan is set to portray Ingle.
The movie will tell the true story of Hamed’s humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz’ unorthodox style, cocky persona and sheer dominance in the ring, propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80’s and 90’s Britain.

"Casino Royale" and "Green Lantern" director Martin Campbell is reportedly the top choice of both Paramount Pictures and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to take the helm of a third film in the "G.I. Joe" series according to Schmoes Know. Filming is aiming to begin in the first half of next year.

Exclusive: Wme has just signed Peter Segal and his Callahan Filmworks producing partner Michael Ewing. The duo has been on the move lately. They left CAA in April to rejoin their longtime agent Adam Kanter at upstart agency Resolution. Now they have moved again. Segal most recently helmed the Warner Bros comedy Grudge Match, which stars Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone as former boxers who get in the ring one last time to settle a long dispute. Callahan Filmworks produced with Bill Gerber. Segal’s comedy credits include Tommy Boy, The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates, Anger Management and Get Smart, so it’s a good get for Wme. Segal is still repped by attorney Lawrence Rose.

Here’s your first look at Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro and Kevin Hart in Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming Grudge Match.
In theaters on December 25th, De Niro and Stallone are old boxing rivals who come out of retirement for one final match in director Peter Segal’s comedy.
In Grudge Match, De Niro and Stallone play Billy “The Kid” McDonnen and Henry “Razor” Sharp, two local Pittsburgh fighters whose fierce rivalry put them in the national spotlight. Each had scored a victory against the other during their heyday, but in 1983, on the eve of their decisive third match, Razor suddenly announced his retirement, refusing to explain why but effectively delivering a knock-out punch to both their careers. Thirty years later, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr., seeing big dollar signs, makes them an offer they can’t refuse: to reenter the ring and settle the score once and for all.

Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone will reunite for Warner Bros. Grudge Match. The two will also be joined by comedian Kevin Hart, who will play the fight promoter of two retired fighters.
Grudge Match will be directed by Peter Segal (50 First Dates, Get Smart) and written by Entourage creator Doug Ellin. The film is being produced at Warner Bros. by Billy Gerber (Gran Toniro), Mark Steven Johnson (Grumpier Old Men) and Michael Ewing (The Longest Yard, Tommy Boy).
The film follows two retired brawlers who return to the ring to sort it out one last time. Both De Niro and Stallone are famous for their boxing roles, and it’ll be exciting to see the Raging Bull go against Rocky Balboa. But this means De Niro needs to tone up because Stallone, 66, still hasn’t lost his muscular figure.
Hart is a good casting choice for the supporting role.

"Get Smart" director Peter Segal is in early talks to helm the Vin Diesel actioner "The Machine" for MGM says Variety.
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant penned the script about a human-like machine (Vin Diesel) created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world's first true ultimate weapon.
Two decades after the government halted the project for unknown reasons, a child finds and befriends "The Machine." Michael Ewing, Marc Platt, Lennon and Garant are producing.
Segal remains attached to a number of projects like "Grudge Match" and "Bleach," at least one of which will likely be done before work begins on 'Machine'.

To date, Hollywood has had a pretty rough time with adaptation of manga and anime. With the boxoffice bombs of movies such as Speed Racer and Dragonball: Evolution, you’d think Hollywood executives would give up on bringing to life something that is so precious to fans that even a slight change to the story will incite rage. Even M. Night Shyamalan’s take on The Last Airbender was critically lambasted. But this doesn’t stop filmmakers from trying.
Now that the live-action rendition of Akira has been put on hold, producers have their eyes on another anime to mangle. This time they have their sights set on Bleach. That’s right folks, Warner Bros. has acquired live-action feature rights to Tite Kubo’s manga and anime property Bleach. Variety is telling us that Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans) will be in charge of adapting the manga for the big screen.

Warner Bros. has been developing a live-action adaptation of Tite Kubo’s immensely popular Japanese manga/anime Bleach for almost two years now, and it looks like things are picking up speed for the project.
Variety report that the studio has now set Dan Mazeau, co-writer of the upcoming Wrath of the Titans, to pen the adaptation, which Peter Segal (Get Smart) is producing with an eye to possibly directing too.
Michael Ewing, Segal’s frequent collaborator, will be producing along with Masi Oka (you’ll know him as Hiro from Heroes), who co-starred in Segal’s Get Smart and was the one to bring the project to him, which makes this quite possibly the most awesome news I’ve heard this year so far.

Peter Segal ("Get Smart," "50 First Dates") is attached as producer and may end up directing. Masi Oka and Michael Ewing will also produce.

Warner Bros. has held the live-action feature rights to Tite Kubo's massively successful manga and anime, Bleach for quite sometime. However, despite rumors of development, the project never seemed to gain any traction. Today, Variety reports that Wrath of the Tiatns writer Dan Mazeau has been tasked by the studio to adapt the property, while Peter Segal will serve as produce and may also direct the film. In comparison to the American comic market, Bleach currently has 75 million print copies in circulation....in just Japan,a tiny island country with a population of about 127.5 million. If I do the math correctly, that's one copy for roughly 60% of the population. I can also assure you that the anime and manga are also a huge success here in America and in other countries. Variety goes on to report that Segal's Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing will also produce...

According to reports, Warners will develop a live-action adaptation of the manga comic book "Bleach". The original comics, written/illustrated by Tite Kubo are published in weekly installments for the Japanese 'manga' anthology "Weekly Shōnen Jump", collected in 43 compilation volumes, that has sold over 50 million copies in Japan and reaching the top of manga sales charts in North America.
"Bleach" has also been adapted into an animated TV series, produced by Studio Pierrot, as well as spawning three animated feature films, seven rock musicals and numerous video games. Viz Media licensed the manga for English-language publication in North America, releasing 28 volumes as of September 2009.
"Bleach" follows the adventures of 'Ichigo Kurosaki' after he accidentally obtains power from a 'Soul Reaper' known as 'Rukia'. Gaining these abilities forces him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits, called 'Hollows', while guiding departed souls to the afterlife.

Tite Kubo's "Bleach" is reportedly being picked up by Warner Brothers for a live-action adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Get Smart" director Peter Segal and his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing are in talks to produce "Bleach" in conjunction with Viz Media.
While the report notes that Segal is attempting to broaden his portfolio of films by "taking on darker, more action-oriented material", it also specifically states that Segal will not direct the film.
Originally released in Japan back in 2001, "Bleach" follows a fifteen year old boy named Ichigo Kurosaki who accidentally drains the powers of a female Soul Reaper — a Japanese personification of death similar to the Grim Reaper — named Rukia Kuchiki, leaving Rukia stuck in the human world and Ichigo as a guardian against evil spirits on Earth.
"Bleach" has previously been adapted into a long running anime series that is currently in its 14th season.

Director Peter Segal thinks Bleach-ing might be good for his career, but no, we’re not talking about hair.
Apparently, the helmer of comedies like Get Smart is looking to take on darker, more action-oriented projects; as such, he’s got his eyes on 'Bleach', a manga written and drawn by Tite Kubo. Serialized in weekly installments in Japan since 2001, the property has been adapted into an anime TV series, as well as movie features and even a musical. An English version of the manga has been published in the Us by Viz, and the translated cartoon is currently broadcast on Cartoon Network and Canada’s Ytv.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Segal has taken the project to Warner Bros., where a live-action adaptation of another manga property, Akira, is also in the works. Segal is in negotiations to produce, but not direct the film; Viz Media and Michael Ewing,...

Bill Birch, actor turned writer who’s been on a number of television shows, is making his mark with the DC comic book adaptation of Shazam! Better known as Captain Marvel, this DC comic book character is a radio news reporter turned superhero when he utters the words ’shazam’, the name of the wizard who granted him the larger than life powers. It is pretty ironic enough that Birch would be attached to this, his name very similar to Captain Marvel’s alter ego named Billy Batson.
Geoff Johns is also co-writing along with Birch with the new script. Attached to direct is Peter Segal with Michael Ewing producing. Currently there has been no casting announcements to the project, with the utter obviousness of the script still in development.
