The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm’s new exorcism film Prey for the Devil (formerly known as The Devil’s Light) has racked up almost 35 million at the global box office since being given a theatrical release on the Friday before Halloween, and soon it will have a chance to reach the audience who would prefer to watch the movie at home. “The Invitation,” a gothic horror film from Sony’s Screen Gems, made 775,000 at the box office in its Thursday night preview screenings from 2,739 locations and showings that started at 4 p.m. The film opens on more than 3,000 screens this weekend.
“The Invitation” opens in a quiet week at the end of the summer and is projected for a 6 million-7 million opening against a 10 million budget. It also opens against “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” the latest film from “Mad Max” filmmaker George Miller starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.
For some comparisons, Screen Gems’ “Don’t Breathe 2,” which opened last August, made 965,000 in its Thursday previews starting at 7 p.m. and went on to just shy of an 11 million opening weekend. “Escape Room: Tournament of Champions” made 8.8 million in its opening after getting a 1.2 million start in its Thursday previews.

The dust may still be settling on Russia's conflict with Georgia, but Renny Harlin isn't messing about, with Georgia, his (anti)war movie set during the war, picking up another cast member in the shapely form of Emmanuelle Chriqui. Renny Harlin has been set to direct an untitled drama based on actual events that took place during the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict.The short war began Aug. 8, 2008, when Georgian forces attacked the border territory in South Ossetia. Russia recognized the territory's independence and subsequently engaged the Georgian forces in battle; tensions have remained high ever since.According to Variety, Harlin will shoot the film in areas near the conflict. Pre-production is already under way, as is casting, for a mid-September shoot. Eva Mendes is getting dirty for Cleaner, a thriller from Millennium Films and Anonymous Content being directed by Renny Harlin. Also signed on is Christa Campbell, joining a cast toplined by Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris and Keke Palmer. Production began Monday in Louisiana.
Written by Matthew Aldrich, the story centers on a former cop (Jackson) who makes his living cleaning up crime scenes. After cleaning a murder site, he discovers that the crime was never reported to the police and that he has unwittingly covered up a homicide.
Mendes will play the widow of the slain man who turns to Jackson for help. Campbell will be a coach to Jackson's daughter (Palmer).
