Exclusive: Shout! Studios, the film and entertainment production and distribution arm of Shout! Factory, along with producers Sean Fernald and Cass Paley, TwentyOne 14 Media and Doc McGhee’s McGhee Entertainment, have obtained exclusive film rights to the story of Johnny Bragg, the prisoner and doo-wap singer from the 1950s.
Bragg rose to fame within the Tennessee State Penitentiary while serving six consecutive 99-year sentences at 17 for crimes he did not commit.
As part of Shout!’s deal with the Bragg estate, the film will follow Bragg in prison and how his unique singing style catches the attention of the prison staff, specifically the warden, who came up with the idea to have Bragg and his singing group tour the prison circuit under armed guard. This eventually led to the group recording demos with Sam Philips’ Sun Records, the iconic Memphis label that launched Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

Interview by FM’s Sean Fernald
Caity Marie Lotz is an American actress, dancer, singer and model. She is known for her role as Annie in The Pact, as well as her character Officer Kirsten Landry in the MTV mockumentary television series Death Valley.
Famous Monsters: I watched The Pact while I was home alone, turned off all of the lights, and it was so creepy. There were scenes that physically gave me chills.
Caity Lotz: I have friends who have seen it who are not even into horror it all and I keep hearing that it does give you genuine “body scare” where you get that rush of adrenaline. It’s pretty creepy.
FM: Where you aware of the short film before you were offered the role?
Cl: They sent me the short film with the script so that I could see Nick’s directing style. When I...

Friday afternoon at Comic-Con was spent in a panel room for FM, which featured very special guest Rick Baker, Jason Edmiston, Joe Moe, August Ragone, Mark Dooley, and FM’s own Philip Kim and Ed Blair. Sean Fernald moderated.
The panel, ‘Stake of the Union,’ gave an overview of FM’s relaunch up to the present day and revealed several pieces of news for the magazine.
Follow the success of the Annotated #1, more collections of Forrest J Ackerman’s personal manuscripts for FM’s early issues are slated to be released alongside refurbished photographs and exclusive documents.
Future cover paintings are to include Ken Kelly’s tribute to Army Of Darkness and Jason Edmiston’s Planet Of The Apes.
Finally, Rick Baker also expressed interest in painting more FM covers! The special edition of the current issue, 257, features his rendering of Frankenstein, and is rapidly selling out.

My good friend Sean Fernald has produced a tongue-in-cheek horror movie starring Henry Thomas (yes, the kid from E.T., but give the guy a break -- he's nearly 40 and has worked steadily since his heyday as a child actor) as a misnathropic oddball who ropes his pretty neighbor (Kelli Garner) -- the one whose fights with her boyfriend keep him up all night -- into a game of "let's imagine the perfect slasher movie." It's available exclusively on Amazon for the next three months, and I can say without fear or favor that Red Velvet is a nifty little picture made by genre lovers, for genre lovers.T...

IFC Films gave Fango an update on when a quartet of its horror titles will debut as Blockbuster exclusives and then become available for retail via Mpi. Look for The Objective (at Blockbuster July 14) to retail on October 27; Pontypool (Blockbuster Oct. 13) to retail February 10, 2010; Dead Snow (Blockbuster Oct. 20) to retail January 26, 2010; and Dark Mirror (no Blockbuster date as of yet) to retail March 2010.
Meanwhile, the two Blu-ray set of the complete theatrical cut of the Weinstein Company’s Grindhouse (which we previously reported on here) has now been shifted to a street date of December 31 by Wal-Mart, which appears to be the only retailer offering it at the moment. That’s the slot the company has also set for a three-dvd Grindhouse edition—but since that’s a Thursday, and discs usually street on Tuesdays, could that just be a default date?
