This year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire wasn't exactly a monster hit, but it did manage to take in close to $555 million worldwide on a reported $135 million budget. Now, we have word that a sequel is officially in development, and Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have enlisted a writer to pen the script.
According to THR, Dave Callaham has signed on to write the untitled movie. No plot details have been disclosed, but it's assumed that both the King of the Monsters and the mighty Monarch of Skull Island will return to face a new, potentially world-ending threat.
Callaham has previously worked on several major studio tentpoles, including the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot, Wonder Woman 1984, Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He also has some prior experience with Big G, having written the early drafts and received story by...

In Adam Wingard's new monster mash "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," Dan Stevens' character -- the rock 'n' roll monster veterinarian named Trapper -- is introduced leaping on board a high-tech helicopter equipped with strange grappling hooks and pulleys. Trapper has been called in to sedate and perform dental surgery on Kong, who is suffering from a titanic toothache. Trapper hoots and grins as he is lowered into the unconscious Kong's mouth, eager to see what the problem is. He yanks out Kong's tooth and replaces it with an artificial implant, smiling all the while.
Trapper is like an ultra-cool version of Ace Ventura, complete with skillfully windswept hair and Hawaiian shirts. The character looks like he's just as ready to attend a days-long music festival as he is to tend to the wounds of ailing megafauna. Throughout "Godzilla x Kong," he wears a perma-smirk, always bemused to...

The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed as things stand now, and the box office earnings seem to confirm that. "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" just made its way to theaters, but MonsterVerse fans who want to keep the kaiju goodness going will want to listen up. The folks at Waxwork Records have announced a special release of the film's soundtrack on vinyl, which you can pre-order as we speak. Much like the film itself, it is colorful and overflowing with monster madness. Oh, and it comes with a 12x12 art print.
The "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" original motion pictures soundtrack features all 23 tracks from the score for the film. The original music was composed by Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie Xl, who previously created music for Zack Snyder's "Justice League" and "Mad Max: Fury Road." Holkenborg teamed up with composer Antonio Di Iorio ("Godzilla vs Kong") to craft an appropriately epic score for director Adam Wingard's kaiju brawl. Holkenborg had this to say about it:...

It's been three years since the King of the Monsters and the king of Skull Island graced the silver screen, but the legendary beasts are back in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." Adam Wingard has returned to the director's chair for another kaiju-filled romp in the MonsterVerse, one that has even more monsters than 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" did. Wingard, it's also worth pointing out, is the first director to helm two movies in this franchise, so we're getting some consistency here. But are we getting anything else after the credits start rolling?
Both "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" had post-credits scenes, so it's reasonable to wonder if "Godzilla x Kong" is going to have one. We're here to address that very question in spoiler-free fashion. So fear not! If you're planning on heading to theaters to see the film on opening weekend, we're not...

Chicago – The key to the rapidly expanding Warner Bros. “Mosterverse” of films, now on its fifth installment, is the enduring pleasure of watching giant creatures laying waste to entire cities. Godzilla and Kong are entirely digital creations, but they have all the personality we need in a movie like this.

Adam Wingard's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" isn't so much a feature film as it is a Joycean stream-of-consciousness ramble escaped from the mind of a sugared-up eight-year-old, his tongue stained with the remnants of Blue Raspberry Warheads, slamming action figures together, roaring to himself in destructive ecstasy. Whereas Wingard's previous Godzilla film -- 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" -- brilliantly embraced the inherent silliness of the monsters' late-'60s Toho entries, "New Empire" tilts full-bore into the realm of Saturday morning cartoons, presenting a brazenly toyetic and visually wild romp that will crack even the hardest of hearts. "Godzilla x Kong" may make a viewer measurably dumber, but golly, that viewer will be entertained.

Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire picks up a few years after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, with the two eponymous titans keeping the peace by staying in their separate realms. Godzilla now busies himself protecting humanity from various threats, and napping in Rome’s Colosseum, while Kong jumps and swings around Hollow Earth, tearing apart critters and wistfully hoping to find other enormous apes like himself. Given the film’s title, their teaming up is an inevitability, but Godzilla x Kong takes its sweet time getting there, spending much of its first 90 minutes engaging in pointless, anticlimactic world-building in Hollow Earth and elaborating on the wisecrack-laden and cringe-inducing human drama above.
In Hollow Earth, Kong finally runs into a trio of angry apes nearly his size, along with a pesky young ape who’s trying to prove his toughness, though it’s not exactly the...

It may be Valentine’s Day, but it’s also a Godzilla kind of day. Don't say that Hollywood never listens to what the fans want. Back in 2021, the marketing for "Godzilla vs Kong" leaned heavily on the idea of the Big Monkey going up against the Big Chonky in an epic kaiju-duel for the ages. And every step of the way, the main takeaway viewers had from the footage mostly amounted to, "Why can't they just be friends?" Well, the team-up we needed most is finally happening and the result is a level of absurdity and indulgence the likes of which we've rarely seen committed to the big screen before.
That's hardly a complaint, mind you.
"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is set to become the latest installment in a franchise that, incredibly enough, once debuted with one of the moodiest and most grounded creature features in 2014's "Godzilla." Now, we're getting a pink-spiked Godzilla, a King Kong wielding a Thanos gauntlet, and...

The fifth film in the Legendary Monsterverse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was once set to reach theatres and IMAX on March 15th, then it slid back to April 12th before recently being moved back up to March 29th. Hopefully they’ll stick with that date. It seems pretty certain that we’ll be seeing the movie very soon regardless, especially since it just happens to have received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. FilmRatings.com reports that Godzilla x Kong has officially been rated PG-13 for creature violence and action. Exactly what we’ve been expecting from it.

The fifth film in the Legendary Monsterverse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set to reach theatres and IMAX on March 15, 2024. The monster mash gets some coverage in the latest issue of Total Film magazine – in fact, it’s even the cover story – and Total Film has also dropped a few images from the film online. Featured in these images are returning Godzilla vs. Kong stars Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry, who reprise the roles of Monarch linguist and Kong expert Dr. Ilene Andrews and Apex Cybernetics technician turned cult podcaster Bernie Hayes, as well as new addition Dan Stevens as a character named Trapper. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the sequel to the pandemic hit Godzilla vs Kong that released in 2021 directly simultaneously on HBO Max and theaters. That movie pitted the two Monsterverse titans against each other for the most part. This sequel sees them team up together again to take on a new enemy. “A colossal creature that lives beneath the surface” is the threat. It will be interesting to see where this goes. This franchise might keep going until we have some sort of an Avengers team-up at some point.
The film stars Rebecca Hall , Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Fala Chen.
It is slated for release nationwide only in theaters and IMAX on April 12, 2024 and beginning April 10, 2024 internationally, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures except in Japan, where the film will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd and in mainland China, where it will be distributed by Legendary East.

Two iconic movie monsters have joined forces in the latest installment of Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse in the new trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
In the foreboding clip, a seismometer measures big disturbances in the ground. “For most of civilization we believed that life could only exist on the surface of our planet,” an ominous voiceover says as the Earth is seen buckling by the pyramids. “What else were we wrong about?” While Kong emerges from the ground and later Godzilla, a new empire is introduced, and the pair is seen running together.

Forget the fear of flying. In the upcoming six-episode thriller “Nightsleeper,” the real danger awaits on a train travelling from Glasgow to London.
“When we were developing the show, we got all these experts in one room and asked: ‘How do you hack a train?’ An hour later, they said: ‘This is scary. We could easily do it now, between ourselves’,” says writer Nick Leather.
“We will do for trains what ‘Jaws’ did for sharks.”
Produced by Fremantle’s Euston Films and set to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in early 2024, “Nightsleeper” is directed by Jamie Magnus Stone and John Hayes.
While Abby Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach) at the U..K’s National Cyber Security Centre is trying her best to stop the train, some remaining passengers also join forces – including off-duty cop Joe Roag (“Peaky Blinders” actor Joe Cole). But they only have six hours and one satellite phone.
“When we were developing the show, we got all these experts in one room and asked: ‘How do you hack a train?’ An hour later, they said: ‘This is scary. We could easily do it now, between ourselves’,” says writer Nick Leather.
