Zack Snyder launched the Dceu back in 2013 with the Henry Cavill starrer Man of Steel. While the film was a reboot of the Superman franchise, it also acted as the first film in a planned shared universe which would ultimately lead to the Justice League, much like DC’s competitors Marvel. Snyder even had a planned five-part story for the film franchise.
However, Snyder got to truly realize his vision due to the studio’s mismanagement issues and his own personal problems. The filmmaker was reportedly also planning a Man of Steel 2, which would have seen Superman fight Brainiac. While the film never materialized, the first image from James Gunn’s Superman might indicate the presence of the popular villain.

To choose emotion over action is how madness lies, or at least that's how it seems when it comes to television ratings in this Golden Age of procedurals.
It is rare to see a drama series deviate from by-the-numbers plots featuring by-the-book law enforcement characters because networks opt to make spinoffs within that formula rather than create new shows outside of it.
Someone apparently forgot to tell AMC because their deliciously non-formulaic series Interview With the Vampire is set to return for a highly-anticipated second season on May 12.
One could argue that this television series is a twice-over spinoff of Anne Rice's 1976 novel, the source material of the 1994 theatrical film starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst.
A better take might be to acknowledge how well this adaptation updates the original story to satisfy fans from both back in the day and now.

In a new interview with GQ, celebrity trainer Paolo Mascitti is revealing the tips and tricks he used to turn the lean David Corenswet into a jacked, powerhouse ahead of filming on the Dcu's Superman.
Said Mascitti, "This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the entire project. David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’6” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200lbs to 240lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he continues to tone up.”
He revealed that he and Corenswet had very intense training sessions for about 5 months before filming started on Superman. However, even though the cameras are now rolling, they're still training.

Earlier this week, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as Superman's Man of Steel. It likely hasn't received the reaction Gunn wanted, generating memes and an overall mixed response.
Zack Snyder hasn't shared his take on the reveal, but one of his longtime collaborators has.
Clay Staub served as an aerial second unit director on both versions of Justice League, was an additional second unit director on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and also collaborated with Snyder on 300 and Dawn of the Dead.
"Who thought this was the best option for a First Look?" he asked on X. "Really, I’m not joking, speaking solely from the layout perspective, the pose (pulling his boot on) making the suit chest and arms look bulky and rubbery. Btw are those Trunks we’re returning to, I’m asking for a friend?"

Actor Nathan Fillion had just completed his run as Castle when he was cast in The Rookie. But he admitted he sometimes found it hard to leave his Castle character behind when doing the hit ABC series.
Nathan Fillion’s ‘Castle’ habits died hard Nathan Fillion | Nicole Wilder/Getty Images
It might’ve taken a while for Fillion to truly shake off Richard Castle for The Rookie. In the ABC series, Fillion found himself in somewhat familiar territory. Like Castle, The Rookie saw Fillion’s character, John Nolan, solving crimes. So it might’ve been easy to channel Rick Castle from time to time, even after the show’s end.
But personality-wise, Castle and Nolan couldn’t have been any more different. Rick Castle was a mystery writer who tagged along with police officers, many times unwelcomed, for his own amusement at first. The character also didn’t always take...

Yesterday, DC Studios and James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as the Dcu's Man of Tomorrow in Superman. While the suit itself seems to have received a largely positive response, how it was presented has divided opinions (cast your vote in our poll here).
Rather than an action shot or iconic pose, Gunn has attempted to drive home the fact that this Superman is more of an everyman, putting his boots on - or taking them off - one foot at a time, just like the rest of us.
That's all well and good, but the hero sitting down didn't like that doesn't do the suit any favours.
What was going on outside Superman's window was just as big of a talking point. A colourful explosion rocks the Metropolis skyline, which he appears to be ignoring. It's also not a strong visual and is reminiscent...

Earlier today, Warner Bros. and James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet fully suited up as the Dcu's Superman. Fans have had plenty to say about the costume and we're optimistic that a better shot will eventually follow.
After all, Kal-El hunched over in a chair with visible creases and loose-fitting parts of the suit surely aren't representative of what we'll see in theaters when Superman is released next summer. Well, here's hoping it's not, anyway.
Costume aside, when Corenswet - a relative unknown - was cast, many fans argued that he was too skinny to play the Man of Tomorrow.
If you still have any doubts, then we'd imagine the photo below will rid you of them. Corenswet's trainer has taken to Instagram to share a shot of the actor mid-workout and this guy is seriously jacked. He's got massive to play Superman and may even be...

Earlier today, DC Studios' co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn shared a first look at David Corenswet suited up as the Dcu's new Man of Tomorrow.
The response so far has been...mixed. Before we get to the suit, the image itself has raised eyebrows; rather than striking a heroic pose, Supes is sitting down in his incredibly expensive-looking apartment either removing or putting on his boot.
Meanwhile, a poorly CG'd explosion is taking place outside (is it AI?), a development the hero is either ignoring or hasn't noticed yet. It's a weird way to present our first look at the Dcu's Superman and arguably does the costume itself no favours.
Because he's sitting down, it's folded over in places and appears ill-fitting. Was this really the best way to present Corenswet's Superman to the world first the first time?
Gunn was clearly going for something here, though we're still struggling to figure out what.

It's usually smart for a director to these days get ahead of the scoopers and the paps in terms of revealing your superhero's costume, and with the sheer amount of scrutiny already targeted at James Gunn's Superman, you knew he'd be looking to release his own first glimpse of David Corenswet as the title character. And so here we are, Gunn hitting Instagram to present the typically quirky initial look at his Superman…
It's certainly different from the usual heroic pose or all-action shot, which feels a very Gunn thing to do. With some unknown, clearly powerful threat looming in the skies above Metropolis, Corenswet's Supes is focused on pulling on (or adjusting) his boot. And as for the suit — which looks to be inspired by several past comics and movies — it looks like it's been in the wars.

Snyder’s vision of the Dceu was highly criticized by the fans. He introduced a dark twist to pretty much every significant character in the Universe and majorly changed some of the most notable qualities of those characters.
‘Batman V Superman’ was likewise highly criticized for cramping too many big characters into a single movie, which effectively rendered it too cramped up to be enjoyable and the story to be worthwhile. Some viewers felt that the film had pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and lacked character development.
Now it’s Gunn’s turn to revitalize the DC cinematic universe, dubbed as Dcu after the reboot, and the first live-action project that will attempt will be ‘Superman’ bound to be released in 2025. But even now, more than a year before the movie’s release, the director is being criticized on social media regularly, and the latest accusation might have merit.

Fans heavily criticized Snyder’s approach to the Dceu, as he infused a darker tone into the characters and altered key qualities.
“Batman V Superman” faced similar backlash for cramming numerous major characters into one film, resulting in a crowded narrative with pacing issues, a convoluted plot, and inadequate character development.
Gunn is now tasked with revitalizing the DC cinematic universe, now known as the Dcu post-reboot, with his first live-action project, ‘Superman,’ slated for release in 2025. However, even over a year ahead of the movie’s debut, the director faces regular criticism on social media. The latest accusation against him is gaining traction and appears to have some merit.
In ‘Superman,’ Gunn intends to introduce four Justice League members alongside Corenswet as Clark Kent and Brosnahan’s Lois Lane: Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (played by Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (played by Anthony Carrigan). It’s Superman!
On Monday, “Superman” writer-director James Gunn released the first look at star David Corenswet as Superman in an Instagram post.
The photo depicts the Man of Steel sitting in what appears to be a luxury highrise condo in his iconic blue, red, and yellow costume. He’s pulling on his boots, presumably to deal with the pink-and-blue comet-like burst that’s visible in the sky out the window. He may be a nearly immortal superhero from the planet Krypton, but he puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else.

What a way to kick off the week!
DC Studios, James Gunn, and Warner Bros. have officially revealed the costume for David Corenswet's Superman, the first film in the Dcu.
It looks as if Clark is preparing to lace up his boots and patrol the Metropolis skyline in the image. While sitting, it clear that this newest version of the Man of Steel will have the superhero's iconic red trunks.
The first official image of the Superman suit comes likely due to the fact that filming is set to leave the behind-the-scenes confines of the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia and film on-location in Macon and later on in Cleveland, Ohio.
At first blush, it looks as if the suit is heavily inspired by the Superman suit from the 2011 DC Comics' New 52 reboot, with slight variations.

Superman filmmaker James Gunn and star David Corenswet have posted on social media the new Man of Steel suit.
It’s a rather rugged costume, not as pristine as previous feature iterations, indicating the edgy take that Gunn is taking here with his movie. The film will be Warner Bros.’ fourth time revamping the DC superhero in longform (not counting big screen serials) following filmmakers Richard Donner (1978), Bryan Singer (2006) and Zack Snyder (2013).
Corenswet follows in the footsteps of such actors playing the son of Jor-El in feature films as Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).
This is a unit shot, it’s not an overly produced CGI shot, and it’s indicative of what we’ll see in the film. Not everything is green screen, and that creates an environment that’s significantly better for the actors.

Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no it’s David Corenswet in our first official look at the actor in full Superman regalia! DC just posted the pic to social media along with the tease, “get ready”, and its official July 11th, 2025 release date. As you can see from the above pic, Corenswet’s Man of Steel seems to be a bit battle-worn, with his costume looking like it went through a bit of a beating. Metropolis is visible behind him, as well as some chaos in the sky, prompting our hero to do something we’ve never really seen him do in a movie so far – suit up!

David Corenswet gets dressed as Superman one boot at a time in the first look at the actor in costume. Superman writer-director James Gunn revealed the image on social media Monday.
The unveiling of an actor in costume as Superman is a rare affair, akin to the first look at a new James Bond. Only three men have starred as the character in its nearly 50-year big screen career: Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022), not counting serials that played in movie theaters in the late 1940s and early ’50s.

The new Superman suit has officially debuted. As filming on James Gunn’s “Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy”) continues, the writer-director shared to his Threads account a first look at star David Corenswet in costume as the Man of Steel. The first thing fans might notice is the suit is quite dirty and weathered, which suggests Superman will be doing plenty of down and dirty fighting in the movie.
Gunn added on Threads that the first look photo “was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”
Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to “Superman” was probably “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring Mia Goth.

For all its flaws, The Rookie remains an excellent procedural that continues to delight viewers with its balanced mix of police drama, action, and comedy. Based on the true story of an LAPD officer who joined the law enforcement in his mid-40s, the show centers on the department's oldest rookie, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who finally gets the chance to become a training officer himself in Season 5. Despite the fact that the ABC series receives mediocre scores from critics, it is very popular among audiences, earning The Rookie not only a spin-off, Feds (unfortunately canceled due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes), but also a renewal for a new seventh season.
But for now, we still have three episodes of Season 6 to go, and the plot continues to develop rapidly, providing viewers with intriguing storylines that promise to shock fans closer to the finale. As such, we saw a...

At the end of the 2001 movie “Monsters, Inc.,” the titular company decides to cut ties with tradition and do away with human children’s screams as a power source in favor of laughter. It was a fun tag that put a nice bow on Sulley’s character growth after meeting the human Boo. What the movie doesn’t show is whether the larger world of Monstropolis will be open to such a drastic change to their traditions and culture. That is at the heart of Disney+’s “Monsters at Work,” which, in its second season, brought workplace existentialism and the environmental revolution to the popular Pixar franchise — along with the surprise return of Steve Buscemi’s Randall Boggs. (More on that later.)
“The end of ‘Monsters, Inc.’ is great for the audience, but that doesn’t necessarily extend to the larger city and the larger world,” “Monsters at Work” showrunner Kevin Deters told IndieWire.

There are two types of people who enjoy crime dramas: some prefer their shows to be brooding and dark, the gorier the better, while others tend to enjoy the mystery element mixed with a heartwarming comedy. Elsbeth is a sure-fire hit for the second group, but it's not the only show you might want to check out.
Here are 8 other shows that will give you as much pleasure as Elsbeth without having to wait weeks to see a new episode.
White Collar (2009-2014)
Starring Matt Bomer as charismatic con man Neal Caffrey, the show follows his journey to become a great detective after getting out of prison in exchange for helping the FBI's White Collar Crimes Unit. The show is light-hearted, yet features some of the best crime cases you will ever see on television. Plus, there is a chance that it will get a reboot soon enough!

Before James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired to take charge of DC Studios, a Green Lantern TV series was in the works revolving around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott.
The story was set to play out across two different time periods, deepening Lantern lore. However, while it was heading to Max, we expected it to be more in line with Titans and Doom Patrol rather than a big budget superhero series akin to those seen on Disney+, for example.
There was chatter about it tying into the planned Green Lantern Corps movie, though, and an impressive cast started coming together with Finn Wittrock tapped as Guy and Jeremy Irvine set to play Alan.
Now, Wittrock - best known for American Horror Story and All My Children - has broken his silence on being ousted from the role when DC Studios set out to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu.

James Gunn debunks conspiracy theory that he was planning Superman’s reboot during The Suicide Squad
Filming for James Gunn’s Superman seems to be going smoothly. However, there is still a stigma surrounding the film as fans of the Dceu are still maintaining that Henry Cavill’s Superman should have been given more chances to flourish. However, there is now a theory that Gunn may have forced Cavill and the Decu into the phantom zone when Nathan Fillion gave people the impression that Gunn has been working on his Dcu reboot since 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

James Gunn is debunking a conspiracy theory that alleges he already knew about Henry Cavill’s Superman re-casting while he was promoting “The Suicide Squad.” That timeline does not make sense, Gunn suggested in a post on Threads, as he was not in charge of DC Studios in 2021 when “The Suicide Squad” released. It wasn’t until Dec. 2022 that DC Studios announced Gunn and Peter Safran as its new bosses.
Some DC fans were accusing Gunn of lying about his involvement in Cavill’s Superman exit after actor Nathan Fillion was quoted telling Collider that Gunn told him at “The Suicide Squad” premiere party in 2021 that he would be cast as Guy Gardner (aka The Green Lantern) in a new Superman movie.

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named Dcu, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the Dceu was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.
In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the Dcu lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. David Corenswet is our new Man of Steel, but before landing the leading role in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, he had auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, at least, that was the rumour.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Corenset did indeed audition for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but admitted that he doesn’t actually recall it. “I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it,” Gunn said. The fan also asked if Superman’s flying scenes in the new movie might be similar to Adam Warlock’s flying scenes from Guardians 3. “No, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for [Adam Warlock],” Gunn responded.

The fan also asked if Superman’s flying scenes in the new movie might be similar to Adam Warlock’s flying scenes from Guardians 3. “No, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for [Adam Warlock],” Gunn responded.

Last year, Gunn and Safran introduced new plans for the “Dcu,” a cinematic universe intended to replace and reboot the Dceu. The initial phase, dubbed ‘Gods & Monsters,’ encompasses animated projects and live-action shows set in Themyscira long before Wonder Woman’s era.
Although the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’ debuted first, the true kickoff of the Dcu will be ‘Superman,’ a live-action film centering on a younger Superman, effectively supplanting Cavill’s established Man of Steel. While the movie is still far from release, we’ve gathered available information in this comprehensive guide. Let’s dive in!
The plot of the film remains a mystery, yet its inspiration is clear enough
At the Dcu reveal, Gunn mentioned that the upcoming movie draws inspiration from ‘All-Star Superman,’ despite the costume drawing from Alex Ross’ art and the logo resembling ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman at the table reading. The movie’s brief synopsis...

Actor Nathan Fillion has been leading the TV show The Rookie for soon to be seven seasons, now. But with Fillion playing officer John Nolan for so many years, the character hasn’t been a rookie for quite some time.
Fillion recently explained how the show lived up to its premise despite his character’s growing experience.

In the beginning, the show’s title The Rookie told audiences almost everything they needed to know about the series. Fillion played a middle-aged man who makes a sudden and severe career change when he decides to become a police officer. At 47 years-old, Fillion’s John Nolan became the oldest rookie in the LAPD at the time. Which was one of the main reasons why the Castle star was so attracted to the show.

James Gunn has been busy directing the first chapter of the new Dcu i.e. Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy). He is also simultaneously directing some episodes of Peacemaker season 2 and is handling all the grunt work that comes with being the co-chief of the new DC Studios.
It seems like part of the grunt work includes answering for the past projects of the Dcu (then the Dceu). The filmmaker was recently asked by a fan about the Green Lantern TV show for HBO Max that was in development starring American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock. Gunn reportedly clarified the status of the project, which was announced back in 2021.

The Dceu has announced many projects in the past including films and TV shows that eventually never saw the light of day.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are the co-heads of DC Studios and taking over the Dcu.
The DC Extended Universe launched with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013 and ended with 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. As Gunn and Safran draw start a new timeline for the DC superheroes, Snyder said he’s “excited” for that is to come.
“You know, I’m a pretty open book. I really feel like, you know, if the characters are treated with reverence, and mythologically correct, then I’m down. I’m in,” Snyder told Cbr about the future of the Dcu under Gunn and Safran. “Let’s see what happens. I’m pretty excited. I mean, we’re going to get Superman pretty soon, so we’ll see what that’s like.”
A fan asked Gunn if he had seen Snyder’s remarks about the Dcu, and he replied on Threads,...
