Birthday shoutouts go to David Gandy (above), who is 34, Beth Ditto is 33, Benicio Del Toro is 47, Smokey Robinson is 74, Justine Bateman is 46, and Seal is 51.
Debra Messing will star in the NBC pilot The Mysteries Of Laura, which “follows the life and relationships of Laura Diamond (Messing), a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her hell-raising twin children.”
Jada Pinkett Smith will star as one of the villains in the upcoming Gotham: “Smith will play Fish Mooney, an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book who is not one to be crossed.”
For the first time, Bette Midler is going to perform at The Oscars. There’s no word on what she’ll be performing, but she has a few songs that could be used during In Memoriam.

Electric Man
Written by Scott Mackay and David Barras
Directed by David Barras
Scotland, 2011
The opening credits sequence of Electric Man is structured as an animated comic, with panel shifts and camera manipulations aimed to recreate and enliven the experience of reading a comic. It’s a fun, kinetic sequence that actually seems to display some of the excitement of reading a comic. Unfortunately, it is one of the few moments in a film ostensibly populated with lifelong comic-book obsessives that feels even slightly enamored with the graphic medium. Electric Man often seems written from boilerplate, like someone took a Mad Lib of screenwriting clichés and mistakenly put it into production. The film is increasingly frustrating to watch, as missteps become missed opportunities and bad moves become bad habits.
The story is so standard, it’s rote at this point: Jazz (Toby Manley) and Wolf (Mark McKirdy) co-own a comic...

Will Daniel Day-Lewis be tackling Nick Clegg? Probably not, but here's how it might look
Clegg
Starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Nick Clegg
The 2010 general election. A hung parliament. Political stalemate engulfs the country. Vibrant young politician Nick Clegg is visited by a vision of the Virgin Mary: "Nick," she says. "This is your time. You have the power to change things." Clegg is the story of one man's decision to grasp this power and make a right old pig's ear of it. Daniel Day-Lewis insists on remaining in character during production, asking both cast and crew to avoid eye-contact at all times, in case he sees it as invitation to wander over and make desperately awkward smalltalk.
Tagline He came. He saw. He did whatever Dave said.
James Dyson: Lust For Balls
Starring: Sly Stallone as James Dyson
The year is 2525. Cryogenically reanimated cyborg James Dyson, knowing that his power source is failing,...

Over the past couple of decades from Sex, Lies & Videotapes and El Mariachi until now (via The Blair Witch Project) it has become increasingly more practical for film industry outsiders working on relatively tiny budgets to make what might be considered ‘professional’ movies. What many of these attempts demonstrate, however, is that while HD cameras can be purchased fairly cheaply on Amazon, talent cannot. Part of the pleasure of Electric Man is that, while imperfect, there is clearly a great deal of talent bubbling under the surface.
The film’s writer, Scott MacKay, and director, David Barras, are originally from Armadale, West Lothian. The film received an enthusiastic response on its premiere, at the Glasgow Film Festival, and screened to an equally enthused crowd last week at Bathgate’s Regal Theatre – once the cinema where MacKay and Barras received their early film education. They are of...

Earlier in the week, some news and images surfaced that told us that Justin Bieber had gotten a tattoo. As a part of his 16th birthday celebration at the beginning of March, Bieber went to Son of a Gun Tattoo and Barbershop in Toronto with his dad in tow to get an impression of Jonathan Livingston Seagull (a tattoo also possessed by Bieber's dad and his uncle) on his hip. On Tuesday (May 18), MTV News caught up with Son of a Gun co-owner Brian Byrne, who laid out the narrative of the event. It's a great story that inspired us to graft other celebrity tattoos on him.
But the name "Brian Byrne" stuck out and seemed awfully familiar. Then it became clear: Byrne is a rock star himself, having fronted Canadian psychedelic rockers I Mother Earth around the turn of the century. The band first formed in 1991 and had several major hits in Canada,...

Fantastic Fest did indeed live up to its name, and thus it was tough to pick just ten movies that were my favorites, but here’s my best attempt:
10) K-20: The Fiend with 20 Faces
A superhero story set in an alternate timeline Japan just after World War 2, K-20 puts a Japanese spin on characters similar to Batman with a dash of Zorro thrown in. It starts off a little slow, but about 30 minutes in, the story picks up and doesn’t let go until the finish line. Containing some of the best CG I’ve seen out of Japan, this film definitly deserves to be seen.
9) Yatterman
Pretty much everything you could want in a PG (ish) action movie based on a Saturday morning cartoon. Humor? Check. Action? Check. Giant robots? Check. Giant robots having sex? Check… Wait, what? Yes, this film is completely insane, and as a result...

Weather presenter Michael Fish has come out of retirement to work on GMTV for a week. The TV veteran, who was awarded an MBE in 2004 for services to broadcasting, will return to celebrate the anniversary of his infamous 1987 hurricane prediction. Fish told viewers 22 years ago that there would only be light winds for Southern England on the night of October 15, but the date saw the worst storms in the region in living memory. He will appear on GMTV to mark the (more)...

Having revealed her and film director Paul Anderson's wedding date of Aug. 22, Milla Jovovich has now owned up to one of her attractions to her fiancé: his Newcastle, England, background and that town's favorite dish: fried fish and French fries. "I'm marrying a Geordie!" the former model, referring to the name applied to Newcastle locals, triumphantly told Britain's GMTV Friday. "I love Newcastle, we have so much fun there. I love going up to Lindisfarne and Lumley Castle - and having fish 'n' chips." Anderson, 44, and Jovovich, 33, have a 20-month-old daughter, Ever Gabo, and Jovovich is currently juggling motherhood,...
