Theatre has been in his family. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre (or what
houses the R.S.C.) was founded by The Flower family, owner of the
Flower's brewery of Stratford. Flowers ale, a beer brewed in
Stratford-upon-Avon. Founded in 1830, Flower's Brewery was a very
profitable business and was soon the main employer in the town.
Shakespeare, the local man who became an international success, was an
appropriate trademark for the company, but if the brewery benefited
from an association with a world famous playwright, he also benefited
as well. The Flower family donated the land on which the first
Shakespeare Memorial Theatre was built and paid for the cost of the
building.
