the war "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
He revealed to the BBC in 2015, that in the late 1960s he started to spy for MI6 in Biafra during the Nigerian civil war, and remained working for MI6 for 20 years, unpaid.
Writes all his best-selling novels the old-fashioned way -- on a
typewriter.
He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the
1997 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to literature.
